@@vincentmontgomery9770 Izzy is fantastic, but his next few fights will decide if he can hang with Silva. He won 17 fights in a row, stylin' in all but one. And if he doesn't get his leg snapped he probably would have won some more before his decline. Izzy can beat Du Plessis, though he will have to improve his offensive striking. One of the things that made Silva so great was that he could move between the low guard counter-striking, using odd angles and precision, to karate-style blitzes that would push you up against the cage. His boxing was simply better than Izzy's. Now that doesn't mean Izzy doesn't have it in him. He probably has the best distance management with his kicks and counter jab/check hook in MMA. But there are times in fights (Whittaker II/Cannonier/Strickland) where if he had challenged his opponents forward movement he would have had (even) more success. Also, shout out to to Magomedsheripov...he could have been something special.

This is the concept of control. All high level strikers use some form of control in between strikes which is a big part of how they manipulate positioning. If all you do is strike without controlling where your opponent is going, you are vulnerable to attack and you’re also less likely to land. If you can control their position, you always know where they are, they’re unable to explode into an attack, and you can find them easily with your own strikes. Control is a core fundamental of striking.

Silva is a legend. But not a lot of people like watching his fights though. Some of them are actual snooze fests. But his Forrest Griffin ko, and some others are legendary. I prefer modern fighters over old pioneers like Silva and Aldo. Today's fighters are more evolved, more well rounded than ever before. It was pretty rare to see fighters like that. The competition is stacked now. I think Islam makachev might just be the only fighter to finish a #1 and #2 p4p fighters back to back. And the only one to face a #1 p4p, while being #2 p4p. The only one I'd count is the Forrest Griffin ko. All his other fights, are literally snooze fests, and I can definitely see why people don't like him. These old fighters are not as entertaining as fighters are today. They struggle like hell to finish ANYBODY. And they are not true MMA practitioners.
