I like that gretsch has kept their prices pretty much the same as pre pandemic prices. I'll definitely be considering the G5422TG.

Yes they shifted Electromatic production from Korea to China and the prices are still the same.

@@zwidawurzn9423 a great guitar is still a great guitar regardless of where it’s made. If the quality is on par with the Eastman T486 (also made in china) then the price is justified.

@@TheJamison76 But that's probably the reason why they can keep their prices. Not saying chinese guitars are bad, most of them are actually quite good but still i don't like the idea of having a "made in China" guitar, especially when it costs like 1000€. It's probably more a personal thing, i want to support chinese economy as little as possible.

Same I got one and I was disappointed when I found out it was made in China . (Like many other things) but the quality is outstanding and it’s a beautiful and awesome good guitar .

I have a 2018 model of the 12-string, a gift from my lovely wife, who saw me gazing at it during a trip to the music shop for strings. It is the most playable guitar I've ever owned, and gets more play than all my other guitars combined. I was a full-time 12-string player before, but my Gretsch is next level. Definitely would recommend, but get your own. I ain't sharing.

I've had my Gretsch hollow body several years now and I've found it very inspiring. I can definitely recommend them for any genres shy of metal if you want something completely different from the standard solid body guitars. They feel and sound so different, it makes me play differently.

to be fair. acoustic 12 string demand isn't huge, bigger than 20 years ago, but still not a big market. the electric 12 string market is super niche with, like maybe, 3 brands pretty much with the market cornered. Gretsch is one of them. the majority of the time if a Gretsch 12 strings sells it's because someone wanted a Gretsch 12 string. the other 2 brands are Danelectro and Rickenbacker

I got myself a G5420T something like 3 years ago, Aspen Green. It is a gorgeous guitar which can do anything. I've put flatwound 12s on it for jazz, but even so, it still works so well for rocknig out on as well. Gotta say, apart from the single cut, I am also glad to have the thumbnail inlays on the frets, rather than the bulging blocks. Looks extra elegant to me.

I'm a vintage collector but Gretsches are the only new guitars i'd consider, they're unbelievable for an overseas guitar. My girlfriend bought the top-line electromatic 5622t last year and I may try to follow with that new 12 string... and it's not any more expensive??? insane!

Pete Townsend recorded most of Who’s Next and Quadrophenia on a Gretsch 6120 (similar to the G5420t) gifted to him by Joe Walsh.

Not a fan of the gold hardware, but the G5422TG does indeed have a lovely open voice to it that I think is unique in the Electromatic range (I've always found the G5420T a bit more compressed... great for jazz). The 5422 may be the best value for Gretsch, as it comes closest to the Pro Series stuff, at a 3rd of the price. I found a great deal on a slightly used G6118T 135th Anniversary, but if it were not for that, the G5422TG would be it. Maybe I'll still get one, anyway... lol

Gretsch always makes great guitars. I never have to worry about their components or build quality, ever! Probably why I own two of them. Couldn't make up my mind so I bought both!

[Martin Gore-Depeche Mode-is my Gretschpiration.] I finally got a Gretsch, just last month. G5622T. Gorgeous. Plays and sounds better than my Gibson ES-335. At a quarter of the price. Fantastic guitars.

I’ve had a G5420T-TVJ for a few years now, used for gigs, recording etc and it’s been fabulous and would highly recommend Gretsch guitars whether made in Korea like mine or China, they’re really taking care of things and have good quality control. Great review guys even if you didn’t mention Roger McGuinn or George Harrison when talking about 12 guitars 😉

One of my favorite things about Gretsch guitars is the fact that they aren't another T-style, S-style or LP-style guitar. I'm a huge Electromatic fan. So much bang for the buck and tons of personality.

Awesome. Thanks Guys. I have 2 Electromatic Gretsch's.G5215 Jet Junior Single pickup Rock and Roll Machine and a G5232T. The Build quality and Playability on Both is brilliant but I still Dream of a G5420T Hollowbody. One Day hopefully my Dream will come true.

Great sounding guitars! I've got a set of filtertron pickups on an interminable internet order which are intended for a mahogany bodied thinline style guitar to try & get some of that tone - If they don't have the desired result I'll have to get me a Gretsch ! And I think the answer to Pete's question about why people don't buy acoustics as their collection accumulates may be to do with the fact that you get more "bang for your buck" with a solid body - and they take up so much less space! I've got a Tanglewood J45 style, & a J180 style, a Sigma 000 style, a Sigma DR12-28 12 string as well as a cheap resonator (all under £500) and they have to live on a wall mounted guitar rack because of the space they take up. This means that some of my electrics have to live in their cases & consequently don't get played as much.

So I have a Gretsch 5622t CB from probably half a decade ago in green. I also own revstars, a Strat, and a 335. the Gretsch is the smoothest and most comfortable to play of them all. love these gretschs

In the early 1970's I played full time in 2 bands in an upstate NY collage town. The second one was a folk rock band, and I played a Guild F212, it's bckup was an Aria F212. The Guild got loaned many times over the years and I lost track of it, I still have the Aria and still play it often! I upgraded the tuners, and the nut and bridge over the years, along with replacing some frets. Other than that it's the same as when I bought it in 1974! Still sounds great thru the DeArmond foil pickup mounted at the base of the neck! 8) --gary

I bought the Tri-Five in Fiesta Red after your video and (as a beginning guitar learner) I love this guitar. I would equally love a single cut, center block from the Korean factory with the FideliSonic P-90 pickups. The Reverend Club King with the RetroBlast pickups is equally on my list of “Will Buy” when they come out again.

My 2017 G5422TG is beautiful, but has INSANE tuning instabilities. I often go several months without touching it because it can take 15-20 minutes to tune it. Is this because the stock tuners are bunk?

My 5422T is my favorite guitar I own. Doing everything from rock (recently I've been learning Greta Van Fleet), to jazz (learning some standards) and it's worked with me on everything.

I’m in the process of shopping for a new guitar. Sold my strat. I’m torn between the Gretsch electro magic 5420t and the Epiphone Les Paul 59 standard. I play a lot of acoustic, old country and folk. I also love to play a lot of punk rock green day, living end, but also into grunge, 90s pop rock like third eye blind, love the 80s stuff ,particularly U2, cure, clash, cult, inxs. I also grew up on zeppelin and like the old blues rock. No idea which way to go….any thoughts?

I am a huge fan of Gretcsh guitars and the 22 series have quickly become my favorite model; however, I think I prefer the sound of a Rickenbacker 12 string to the Gretcsh 12 string in this video. Would love to see a comparison video between the two.

I didn't add the extra 6 strings to my Martin DX12 cause I just wanted a regular 6 string for a while. It wors great and you can add the extra strings whenever you want.

Yeah, using a bit of chorus is a bit like a 12 string. But that is also like saying eating a bit of an apple is a bit like eating an apple pie.... When I play a 12 string it is like playing a magical instrument... I write different kinds of lyrics and stories. I play rhythms slightly different and I seem to automatically slow down my little fills between chords, not being so busy, not trying to push it along as it is carrying me already. The ideal is the Rickenbacker 12 and always has been. I don't hear enough of those tones in this demo. I have heard the Danelectro 66 12 on some videos that seem to catch it closer and apparently this is not the typical Silvertone Danelectro builds of the past. My point is that if I am playing an Electric 12 I want to be able to think that the sound is of the McGuinn, Harrison, Petty variety.

i love the tone of gretches but i went to my local guitar store today and they had these in, was sadly a bit disappointed, the necks felt weird and the bigsby arm only reaches near the bridge

Hi all. I'd always used 6 string guitars until a close friend offered me an electric twin neck. This guitar has the 12 on top and the 6 underneath. After tackling the tuning issue, wow lol, I found a whole new world of playing. Would definitely recommend that at some point everyone should at least have a go. Oh, and it isn't a Gretsch.

In order to emulate a 12 string guitar with two 6 string guitars, use Nashville tuning on one of the 6 strings. Nashville tuning is simply the 6 high strings of a 12 string guitar.

I am a Gretsch player, almost exclusively. Where do you go with one? Anywhere you want. If you understand and learn how to use the tone knobs and switches and use a good amp you can play literally anything. My main squeeze is my 64 Country Gentleman. Everything from Chicago style blues to Solo fingerstyle, Roc and Roll, even funk.

I have a 5230T that punches so far above its weight. Grestch is really in a golden age at the moment. The only thing that could be better about it is the fretboard edges are the opposite of rolled. It's not sharp fret ends, it's the binding itself. Very 90-degree on the edge. I'd have a luthier roll the edges but I don't know if the material is solid enough to shave down. It may also cause strings to slip off the sides. I could always buy a high end Pro model for a lot more money but even those I've played have similar sharp edges. Similarly priced Gibsons and Fenders don't have this issue.

What do you play on a Gretsch ? Rockabilly, Rock N Roll, Psychobilly, Punk, Hard Rock (AC/DC) even some 'grunge (Soundgarden). Also, Neil Young's ''go-to'' guitar (White Falcon)
