Honestly the only reason they probably don't is because their sound is pretty simple. However their simplicity is part of the appeal. No b.s to hide behind , just ripping heavy riffs

I don't think there is much point. They got there without busting the bank. What should they do now? They could switch the guitar and amp for bigger, more expensive equivalents, but it wouldn't really change the sound.

Kinda late but honestly seeing sabbath live on their last 2 tours Tony's tone is much thicker and a bit more modern sounding than their first few albums which they were going for. The sabra cadabra is built to mimic his old laney and treble boost sound so if it does a good enough job of replicating that as I've read I can see why they wouldn't just use his recent combo

I met Iommi some years back and mentioned his signature pickups to him because it was the very first pickup I ever purchased. He had no clue what I was talking about, his manager buddy had to remind him of what I was talking about. Actually, it sounded as though he really didn't have anything to do with it, more like he just signed a paper and *POOF* it was made. Really sweet guy though. Him and Chris Broderick are the nicest guitarist I've met to date.

Signature humbuckers, pretty odd for a guy whose entire sound was based on p90 single coil pickups. That's what his first SG had and used on at least the first album. Latter custom made pickups were based on p90s, afaik.

Well Electric Wizard or Sleep would be quite easy wouldn't it? 1- get a heavy duty detuned Gibson (SG for EW, LP for Sleep); 2- Get a 150W+ amp and run it with everything cranked; 3- play a killer riff as slow as you can
@thomascarmichael6659
@thomascarmichael6659 7 жыл бұрын
That'd just get a sort of basic bitch stoner tone though wouldn't it? You want to also get that really amazing clarity that Sleep have if you're doing Matt Pike or the really dirty metal fuzz if it's Jus Osborn and Liz Buckingham. Would be good to get pointers on how to really nail that sort of sound so I could maybe try and implement elements of it in my own sound. For example I'd say an EQ pedal would be awesome for Sleep. Would help get the balance of tone he has from running two heads with everything full and four more giving out a more high mid overdrive sound. But personally I wouldn't have a clue how to set it up lol.

I think it could be more interesting to do a band like Dead Meadow honestly. Those guys have such a good tone and use a bit of delays and other stuff (not much though). I think that kind of valve break delicate territory is sometimes hard to consistently nail. But is the base of a lot of cool stuff

To be honest, if you add the rhythm guitar, why not the bass if you want a thicker sound? Geezer is as vital to the sound as Iommi is and that would give a better representation in my opinion. Obviously for a two guitar band you'd go for them both, but in the case of a bass and guitar, why not both?

It's also his gear. Geddy with a Rickenbacker sounds different than Geddy with his Wal. Also, in his Rickenbacker days he used his bass in two channel mode, running each pickup to a different set of amps and signal chains. He's been a real gear head over the years.

For Alex: Grab whatever Blackstar you can get a hold of, gain channel, gain somewhere between 9 and 12 o'clock. Throw your favorite overdrive, one of the many Electric Mistress clones, and a Wah in front. Plug in a Les Paul or 335 and you're off to the races. Play with pickup choice and guitar volume to find clean tones, flip on the Electric Mistress when it needs to be swishy. (I find that for much of the 70s era stuff you can almost leave the Mistress turned on all the time if you set it for a subtle flange.)

@@neilpatrickhairless nah, while this little TI signature amp is a nice amp for the money, it is NOT comparable to the laney la100 or the LA30 even. Thats why they "blend" the sabra cadabra with the amp: because thats actually a preamp pedal with a range master treble boost circut in it. That being said: the Iommi by busting the bank Rig would just be the Laney LA100 with the laney greenback box, the laney ti sig booster and an Gibson SG with P90s. Me too, the red SG straight in the amp sounded A LOT better ... maybe more fuzz made it closer to iommi's tone (well I wouldn't be sure, in first albums his tone was 'dryer' than this) but to me it's better an open, dynamic, overall good sound rather than a sound more similar to what you want but too compressed and overall worse (besides, to add a slight fuzz you could even just turn down tone knob on Guitar)

Yeah, I also blame the Sabbra Cadabra, I have the feeling it was built for bigger cabinets... It sounds like the tone is being squeezed through the 1x12... And altough boosters tend to sound bit better with small speakers than OD pedals I would love to hear those pedals through a 4x12

I DOUBT IF THAT WILL EVER HAPPIN, HE'S GOT SKILLS BUT HE'S PROBLY TOO OBSCURE FOR MOST PEOPLE, THEY ONLY DO SOUNDS LIKE VIDEOS ON ARTISTS OR BANDS THAT HAVE SOME LEVEL OF COMMERCIAL SUCCESS, BUT IT WOULD BE COOL TO SEE BUT THE BASE OR FOUNDATION OF THE TONE WOULD BE LES PAUL INTO A MARSHALL AND AN OVERDRIVE MAYBE, THEN WHATEVER CRAZY PEDALS HE USES
@MB-yw3pv
@MB-yw3pv 7 жыл бұрын
WHEN THEY SAID THEY WANTED TO RETIRE THE MARSHALL DSL40 I WANTED THEM TO GIVE IT A PROPER SEND OFF AND SUGGESTED THEY DO A VIDEO WHERE THEY SEE HOW MANY BANDS THEY COULD SOUND LIKE WITH IT, I THINK THAT WOULD BE COOL JUST TO SEE HOW VERSATILE OF AN AMP IT IS FROM GUYS WHO PLAY MAYBE BLUES UP TO METAL BANDS, DONT THINK PEOPLE REALLY USE MARSHALL AMPS FOR THE CLEAN TONES

No detuning and laying down some Vol 4/Sabotage riffs? :( Maybe you could do a part 2 of this "Sounds like" with these less "obvious" Tony Iommi tones, would be interesting. Great video, though, sounded really good. Cheers.

I can't wait to see them. I'm only 24 and I'm just getting into Black Sabbath and WOW! I need to keep going and listening to all the big names in history so when I have a kid, I'll make sure they listen to it all. No ignorance in terms of music. All about being open minded. I'm seeing them here in London! All the way up front! I swear moving to the UK, specifically London was the best thing I could have done.

Bass and Drum part ·Geezer Butler -Butler uses Lackland PJ. You can get a similar tone with Yamaha BB734 wich has active electronic (Geezer has a EMG signature set) or if you want the exact oldy tone, a Fender Standard P bass. Geezer also played other basses, but that was not the rule. The pickup configuration depends of the song -Laney is THE Sabbath amp since the begining of times. The RB3 combo is a good choice. Set it with a warm and agressive tone, low mids and powerfull bass and treble. A little gain -Of course, a MXR Bass Envelope ·Bill Ward -Just your standard drum set with double pedal and at least two rack toms. Wooden snare -Paiste is a good cymbal choose, PST 7 series

They will come to a dilemma when they come across artists that already use other people's signature gear. I can see that being a problem for wahs, especially. Many use either a Jimi, Dimebag, Tremonti, or Bad Horsie - all of which are signature models.
