Came in today, tried a few and walked out with the Sire. Stunning guitar and lovely combination of warm tones on the neck and brightness from the bridge. One of the nicest necks I’ve played too. As someone who owns Fender I was so impressed by the T7 it was a no brainer. Cheers again guys for all the help as usual!

You should do these blindfolds as you used to without knowing the guitars beforehand. And foremost decide which are the best (or which you prefer the most) not just trying to guess the brand and then come to conclusion.

I must concur with Lawrence. I have a Stadium HT and I sold a butterscotch Players Series to the fund it. The Godin is an exceptional example of the T style. The electronics, the build and the aesthetic are far beyond the Player Series or the ASAT. It is in the same league as the Sire.

I saw a video where they discuss those G&L ASAT pickups and their adjustable pole pieces. From the factory, they're up a little high and it makes them pretty hot - but not T-like. Just get an allen wrench and drop the pole pieces down and they are very close to classic Tele sound.

The ASAT Special pickups sound rich and beautiful at full volume, but the treble bleed circuit they paired it with is what makes them truly versatile. They go brighter as you turn the volume down, making them feel like smaller output pickups. Actually more intuitive than going darker as volume drops, and much more usable tone along the sweep of the pot. Creamy sweet overdriven tones, and bright clean tones that cut through the mix at lower volumes, both within the reach of your pinky. That guitar is a true masterpiece.

I have a 2009 Legacy Tribute, and I have carried out a few mods and it is now a foxtrot oscar guitar, and still cost under GBP 650. The G&L Tribute range spank the Fender Player Series hard for price, hardware and finish. I sold a MIM Tele recently and intend to replace it with a ASAT Tribute model as I would love to get into MFD pups. If you have the money for a US or Custom G&L then go for it, but their Tribute range is incredibly great value.

According to the G&L Website, the ASAT Classic also has MFD pickups; "The G&L ASAT Classic is Leo’s final word on the traditional single-cutaway bolt-on axe. Framed in a classic boxed-steel bridge, the single-coil Magnetic Field Design bridge pickup created by Leo Fender† delivers crisp attack with complex harmonics while individual brass saddles offer modern levels of intonation refinement. Flip to the single-coil MFD neck pickup and you’ll discover a delectably rich tonal palette, from round clean jazz tones to thick, gritty blues. Put ‘em together and you’ll find a whole ‘nother level of heaven."

I think the use of a blindfolded test for the viewer (apart from entertainment) is it reveals the qualities of the guitar other than brand and reputation. It may reveal you can buy the same sound and playing qualities for a lower price or from an unexpected brand. Pete's playing not being affected by brand and reputation. In this set up the test is merely 'guess the brand', where ten minutes earlier he played or heard all the guitars before. which reduces the tast to 'recognize what you felt and heard ten minutes ago', making the test only about Pete's memory and/or the recognizability of the guitars, mainly by characteristics like knob position, neck and bridge shape etc. Still entertaining. but not as useful as a blindfolded test would suggest. I think the test should start blindfolded, without the aim of recognition (so no right or wrong), but focused on playability, sound etc (so good, easy, shredable, scratchy frets and the like).

Brilliant as usual boyos. They all sound tasty......I have a G&L special being delivered today......I have a Standard Fender MIM with the single alnico's as well as a FSR with the 3 barrel bridge and HOT ceramics and a ASAT Carved top T 2 buckers.Oh and the 76 Tele deluxe ( me first). They all sound different and that's what I like about 'em. I would perhaps maybe just as a bit of data mining like the manufacturing locale specified. It seems to me though that bit o' news would not override the tone of the actual axe. All good! The Fender is awesome as are the G&L's MFD's .... With all these tele tryouts what do I fire up first? Me American Strat O..go figure. Now get to work.

Really great video. My takeaway is that if you're in the market for a traditional Tele, four of them will work very well. The Schecter on the other hand is a great option if you already have a traditional Tele but want a P90 guitar that happens to have a Tele flavor. This along with its wider neck sort of blends a Tele and an SG Special. Very cool, thanks guys!

After watching the "Tested: Where Does The Tone Come From In An Electric Guitar?" video from Jim Lill.... I don't own a T type guitar yet, it may be the next one I buy. Prior to watching that video I was concerned with getting an "authentic" one as far as sound goes. I thought maybe the ashtray bridge contributed to tone or even the brass saddles. I was leaning towards the ASAT because it had brass saddles but they're individual for easier setup/intonation, etc. Now it seems it doesn't matter. I'm liking the Dean Zelinsky stuff.

In every video with a G&L, Lee says that the USA models and Tribute models have the same hardware. This is mistaken. The saddles are chrome-plated brass on the USA models and zinc on the Tributes. Also the DFV bridge plate is a cheaper metal on the Tributes. All the blocks are brass, but not all brass is created equal. Anyway, they all sound damn good. I own several USA and Tribute models. Sometimes I replace the saddles with brass or steel, sometimes I leave them as is, even on the Tributes. Bottom line: if sounds good, it is good.

Love my suier Contempary Telecaster with dual humbuckers. Quality to me is on par or better than the classic vibes. Better actually. 12" radius neck.

I'm not sure I understand the point of the blindfold part if it's after he already sees, hears, and feels them all, and he's allowed to feel that the switches and everything are different while he's blindfolded lol.

As much as I love Schecter, the color mismatch is something I couldn't get past. The body looks amazing though, and I'd definitely consider that color with a different neck and head stock. That butterscotch is one of the best looking butterscotch color tones I've ever seen. Looks thick and rich, like its color namesake.

I love the look of the schecter but the fender player white on white u can never go wrong with either. Really u can't go wrong with any of them.... I wish they would of put a charvel up there too but maybe it's to modern.

Im with you. The white on white looks great. Because I suck at guitar and can make anything sound bad, I saved some money and just bought a Squire Affinity in white. With its stained dark maple neck and gloss headstock, it looks fantastic and is actually not a bad guitar, especially with the new model upgrades. If you don’t mind the name, or doing a little fret work and set up, you really can’t go wrong for under $300.

I play a Sterling Axis, and I wonder why the EBMM Axis never makes it into any of the Tele comparisons. I get that there's no pick guard, there's no metal on the face of it besides the bridge, and it's HH. BUT look at the shape of it! And with the coils split you get some amazing single coil sounds that honestly sound a lot more like a fender than some of these other ones!

For me the G&L ASAT's sound the best. They should do the ASAT's with roasted necks. I like the look of the Sire with the roasted neck. The Schecter sounds o.k.

I don't get the blindfold thing, when pete plays and hears all guitars beforehand and also uses the pickupswitch and other controls himself.
