What I really like is how the Jackson just says Jackson on the headstock, none of this SE, Squier, LTD, Gio bullshit that immediately advertises it's a cheaper guitar.

It’s nice to see budget guitars that aren’t Squier. Don’t get me wrong Squiers are great but sometimes a change of pace is nice.

I have the Jackson JS22. I can 100% guarantee you it's a bang for the buck. It's like 220 euros and you won't be disappointed.

in the US 200 pound guitars are only for the very strong

This is the golden age of quality low budget guitars. I started playing in the early 70s and it wasn't cheap to find a playable guitar. I bought a Ampeg heavy stud Tele copy for under 300 bucks. 300 bucks in 1974 was a lot of money for a high school kid making 2.40 an hour. Lol

Had a Jackson JS32QT that i absolutely loved. It was so easy to play and came fresh out of the box very playable. I was impressed with such a low cost instrument that it would play and sound so nice

Rob is right about the tremolo bridge, it's almost always the nut, string tree or string post windings that cause tuning issues. Especially so with a 2 point trem...

I have that exact esp ltd f-50 but with locking tuners. Can confirm, it is still one of my favorite guitars even though I own a high end schecter, a solar V style, and a music man jp60

I have the same Jackson (color and model). A little beat up but definitely gets the job done. Especially with the stock pickups.

Those cheap Ibanez trem systems are actually really stable.

CHALLENGE: Expensive trem system on a premium guitar that hasn't been set up with a perfectly cut nut and locking tuners, vs a cheap licensed trem system on a shaffordable guitar that HAS been set up with a lubed nut and correctly wound new strings!

In my experience Jackson excels at this price point. The expensive Jacksons are very average to my taste (which is not bad, it is just what you expect from a guitar at that pricepoint). But below 300 quid, no one touches them in sound and playability, especially in the shred category. Ibanez to me is the other way around: great more expensive guitars, shite at the under 300 range

I know it's not the model but my first good guitar was a Jackson dk2 (not an expensive guitar tho). It is awesome, I still keep it to this day, awesome intonation, good seymour duncan pickups, Jackson makes some of the best shred machines

I actually want to see a video on the argument around 15 minutes in. Buy 2 cheap guitars with a trem system. Upgrade the bridge on one of the guitars, upgrade the nut and tuners on the other, see which one is the better upgrade for which purpose. I think that'd be an interesting thing to have a full side-by-side comparison for.

I have, hands down, the coolest F-50 to live. Took the paint off, finished it in flat black dye with an oil finish. Sanded it to highlight the contours. Removed that silly middle poky bit on the headstock. Removed the logo. Replaced all of the chrome hardware. Put in some Duncan Invaders with Dunlop pots and gave it Hipshot locking tuners. It.Is.Awesome.

Fell in love with the metallic blue jackson js22 so I ordered one online. I hope it does not disappoint. 22 frets aren't cutting it for me anymore.

I bought an Ibanez Gio and changed the strings to 11's...The sound is sick and it stays in tune even through massive bends and trem abuse. Best 160 quid ive ever spent. Just for comparison, I also have a Brian May replica at 700 quid, which imo doesnt hold a candle, although its good for queen songs. Hmm..might go 11's on the BM.

I had a Jackson JS22, which I ended up returning two days later... absolute worst tremolo system I ever had on a guitar, even after a set-up. Then I bought a JS32 in Pavo Purple - best lower end Jackson I ever played and she looks beautiful.

Can confirm with the Gio's trem. I re-cut my nut and re-strung it right, the thing just stays in tune. Only needs a touch up if it's been really cold and heating go's on but all my guitars need that. Also, this cheap Ibanez is going to cost me 900 in the long run as I want an RG :(

The pups don't have plastic to prevent rust, its on them to prevent metal particles or debris from being attracted to them. Its the same reason you should always cover pups before using steel wool on the frets. Imagine all the particles and junk in a factory!

the Eastcoast GV320 actually sounded the best, by quite some way, those pickups sounded great, sounded like it cost a lot more than the rest

About the trem system losing tuning, Chapman has a point there. I bought a 50R$ (12USD) guitar from a friend of mine, and by using .10 strings on it i can abuse the trem system without any worries, the guitar wont lose tuning. Helped that i tweaked on the string-trees and locked the strings on the tuner (no locking-tuners, just technique, youtube helped on that matter)

No really, no really though, I got my Anderton's Eastcoast GV320-SPM in Spalted Maple, with the bundle this morning, and am in shock and awe at the quality and precision of this beautiful affordable axe. 4 EC guitars now with GS10, GS100 and D1CE electro-acoustic.

Winner, which one do I want to take home. A chapman guitar. That Jackson or ltd will do. I liked all of them, they all sounded a little different. He played the best on the ibanez that's the shredder for rock music, and the Jackson seemed like more for metal and chugging. Obviously the ltd is made for people who favor heavy metal music.

Good vid guys (as always) but great fun too. This vid does highlight two things it took me (certainly pre-internet days at least) ages to learn.... 1) An 'affordable' guitar can, and most often will, sound great through expensive high end amps - but be warned - it does not work the other way round. 2) Got staying in tune issues on an affordable guitar with a floating trem? Easy. Make sure the strings are wound just right and not too much or too little round the post - or - better still fit locking tuners. Get it (or have it) fully set up. If still having trouble then also look at changing the nut and/or machines. I've put locking tuners and a Graphtech nut on many a (admittedly) not too shabby out of the box Squiers. But they stay in tune great after that! Ok, if you want to do crazy divebombs and the like then you need a Floyd Rose but 'general' playing? No problem. They stay in tune. Sorry Lee but Chappers is bang on correct with that one!

I used to own the cherry red version of the LTD F-50. If you want a cheap shredder, BUY IT at $199.99. I loved that thing and only got rid of it because I was in desperate need of money at the time. Wish I still had it.

I’m an intermediate player treading on slightly advanced and I still only have a katana 50 at home. Some of us are just poor, decent guitar players lol!

WRT the cheap guitar trems debate: both Chappers and the Captain are correct. Rob is correct in suggesting that tuning stability does not rely on trems and comes mostly from the nut being set up correctly and strings being wound right. However, a cheaper trem is usually made of lower quality metals/alloys which wear out very quickly and begin to affect tuning stability in a very radical manner.

As someone who has spent quite a few years in various production and manufacturing facilities, most recently as Production Manager and Process Manager, and before that, in a different company, as Manufacturing Engineering Department Manager, andl that's after working my way up from CNC machine operator about 10 years earlier. So I may be familiar with why companies make some of these decisions. A lot of times that plastic is put on there, like Rob said, to keep rust, or oxidation, which can cause discoloration, or dulling of the surface finish,also some metals get a hazy look, but it is most importantly put on the pristine plastic, metal, and high gloss finish areas that are susceptible to being affected negatively. That plastic is put there to keep the employees' fingerprints, and anything they might have on their hands, like what they were eating for lunch, or what they were doing in the bathroom after lunch, and some people just naturally have very acidic, or even sometimes alkaline, sweat on their hands and their fingers. This can definitely affect nice shiny blemish-free surfaces on the brand new instruments. It is also used for something as basic as keeping dust, or Sawdust, or cardboard dust from the warehouse, or as I saw in one interesting facility, to keep bird droppings from landing on product that would be shipped in the next day to two weeks. Imagine opening that box, pulling out that case, opening up the v ase, eagerly anticipating the first time you set your eyes upon your brand new bass or guitar and seeing the pickups and the pickguard is displaying oily fingerprints from John, inspector number 12, and little specks of his meatball sandwich, intermingling with the other colors and textures of the brand new instrument. A customer may just be a little underwhelmed or less than impressed.

Cort definitely should be on the list. I encourge you to look after that brand because its great in budget category.

I've noticed that no locking tremolo for that price range. That sucks. Shred to me means having a locking tremolo.

I was going to recommend the ESP LTD 400/600/1000 Series, but from what I can tell the 400/600 are dead and the 1000 now retail for ~1000 GBP! They were less than 500 GBP a few years back!

Eastcoast axe had best tone by far. It's pickups had best clarity and definition. It also had best natural sustain that might be caused by thicker neck. LTD had muddy sounding pickup although I suspect it probably is best playing one out of the box.

I have to add, and hate to say because it's a competitor's house brand, but the Harley Benton Progressive series for around $170 US, which I think qualifies, is an amazing bargain, plays and looks great, and comes with a Floyd Rose! Bought one for my brother for his birthday while he was visiting family in Europe for two months vacationing, and he had a blast with that and a few other accessories like the Laney mini amp I got for him to busk with while hanging out in Budapest for the last, ever Slayer concert. He said it was the best birthday present he got in his life! Shred on my friends! 😎🎸

I have been looking at getting a grg for sometime now every review I've watched hasn't included use of the trem thank god I finally found one one that's the reason I want the guitar

I have a LTD FM 300 with a terribly twisted neck and had a stripped out locking nut and cant get the right replacement nut. The input jack is bad and my 1st string is 1/16" below the B string from 9th to 12th frets. My 6th string is 3/16" above the rosewood at the 1st fret makes it nearly impossible for me to play at 1st n 2nd frets. Due to nut and neck twist being so bad. I cant solo on it because i get playing 100mph and forget my strings are dead from frets 9-17 on my 1st string. There is no way to shred this LTD FM 300 ESP series. Its a neck through body so im SOL on replacement neck. However i have figured out how to do most whammy bar tricks WITHOUT ONE. You can use bends at 1-3 strings at once and Hammer ons and SETTINGS/PEDALS. Im fixing to buy me a brand new guitar. Its very difficult to practice on an instrument thats not playing right and wont take a set up my neck is twisted plus its cupped inward and forward bowed at the 12th fret. Adjusting the Truss rod makes it worse. I have had numerous professionals look at it and it would cost me like 1/4 to 1/2 of the repair cost to buy a brand new intermediate shred guitar. The neck twist is so horrible you can look at it and see the twist. I have NEVER exposed it to EXTREME temps or moisture. Back in 2017 they willfully sold me a defective guitar. I wont say any names.

Used to own ltd viper 100, hell of a great guitar! One of the best guitars I've ever played. It's comfortable and sound nice (for heavy music) even in comparison with my 1k$ schecter/ltd/ibanez's. So I would definitely recommend that ltd f50 guitar out of all. And I wouldn't recommend GIO.
