Andre Iguodala. Finals MVP. Olympic Gold Medalist. NBA All-Defensive Team. All-Star. He’s as complete as a player can be, but his performance against LeBron, and overall in the Finals, propelled him to be looked at as the Most Valuable player in the entire series. He answered the call to be the guy off the bench on a loaded Warriors squad, and that unselfishness and level of sacrifice is what made the final 6 games of the season his best. How else would you describe a player who came off the bench for 100 consecutive games and was recognised as being better than both the reigning MVP and someone who had 4 MVPs, 2 rings and 5 consecutive trips to the finals? Unreal.
USA Basketball’s Mike Krzyzewski has referred to Iggy as the new Scottie Pippen, and his performance looked every bit that. If you look at LeBron as potentially the closest thing to Earvin Johnson the league’s had, then Dre conjured up flashbacks to 1991, where Pip just hounded Magic (obviously not to the same level) up and down the floor. Drawing the assignment of having to guard the best player in the world right now is no easy task, but he proved more than equal and that’s a big reason why Golden State has broken their 40 year title drought.
This video is about Andre’s defense in the Finals. Of course, he’s an awesome passer as well, so if you get the chance, check out my much older passing reel of his. • Andre Iguodala - Point...
