By far his best symphony. I don't see the comparison with Rautavaara, however.

Excellent score. Symphony 5 is my other favourite and No.4 is very good too.

Another talented composer whose music needs to be discovered. Too much Mahler and Beethoven being played by conservative orchestras

But Mahler and Beethoven are awesome, so of course musicians love to play it every year. :/ We need more orchestras maybe. Not only one or two by cities. So we could have a lot of diversity.

Obviously I'm in a minority here: I hear a series of descriptive episodes, no development, no story-telling, no overall direction, most of all nothing that indicates the composer has anything to say ... Sorry to be negative but this (and his 7th) sound to me like "music by numbers"...
