As a DSLR user, I have changed my camera to R5C, and most of my lenses are EF mounts, so I found a solution to use an EF to RF adapter with a drop-in circular ND filter.

Nice! Yup, that’s what I would love to do but my 15-35 RF is the main lens I use so it wouldn’t work for me. Still might look into one of those for when I use my EF glass. Thanks for watching!

That is really awesome I am happy you are doing great things over there in Texas. I unfortunately went from small KZfaqr to taking professional gigs on the side. Coming from an opposite standpoint of most KZfaq channels so I am on my grind. I need an R5C video that I was afraid to make for a long time. I dropped my ego and my anxiety and let it rip.

I want to say yes, but I haven't done a side by side since I've been swamped with client work. Would be a good video idea. Definitely if you shoot in the RAW video, but I think even in the clog3 regular modes too. Like the highlight roll off is nicer and smoother. Thanks for watching!

Wonderful video, you've convinced me to take the plunge on this camera. Quick question though! On your gimbal rig, I noticed you have a Vmount battery attached. Great review. Love the content and style. I'll add my bits on the Cons: the biggest and only issue with the R5c is the "Networking" which just does not work in Video mode. I want to use Remote Control, I want remote screen, remote scopes, image on my mobile, ability to use Canon Camera Connect - none of this works. That's the only issue. Battery life is no issue: in a studio you'll be on cable power. Out-and-about just use an external power source as you say. However I find the 60mins life is normally fine for anything I do. No internal ND? Not an issue, use a normal ND, or get a C70 and lose all the benefits of the R5. Honestly the only issue is the Networking, which I'm sure will get a firmware fix quickly, apart from that this video camera is 10/10

Thanks! Oh wow, haven't tried that. Bummer it doesn't work though! Yeah, I actually found myself only swapping batteries once yesterday during a shoot when I had it on a gimbal since I already had the v mount battery ready on my tripod for something else, lasted long enough too. Yeah, I normally like using a CPL filter especially for RE so that's where an internal ND would be best but true! Thanks for watching!

Great video! So you recommend the Canon R5C for videography and the Canon R6 Mark II for photography. Do you think one of them could handle both tasks? If so, which one would that be?
@AndreiRestrepo
@AndreiRestrepo 2 ай бұрын
Great question !! I think either camera can do both, really well. But for an easier workflow and convenience, I'd pick the R6 Mark II. For most of my career I've always had only one camera, and for the time I had only the R6 mark ii, it could do it all! I just came to the point where I would do shoots where I needed a second body and it became easier to have one camera rigged for video, and the other for photo. I'd pick the R6 mark ii to do it all because of the sensor stabilization that's amazing for photos, the way better battery life is a big reason for both photo & video, and a few other perks. Now, that's not to say that the R5C can't do both because it obviously can, but you need an external better solution for video shoots, no IBIS, and a bit bigger body than the R6 ii. So for one camera solution, I'd say the R6 mark ii would be best. Thanks for watching!

i have an r5c, but still haven't taken the time to learn it. (hey been busy, which is a good thing right) for RE i just shoot on the EOS R, and for video i shoot on an A7s3, using a manual EF laowa 12mm on a sigma EF to e-Mount adapter. Being manual its perfectly fine. With regards to your ND problem, just get the variable canon EF to RF adapter, especially as you're using what looks like an EF laowa 12mm cinema lens. anyway it doesn't blue cast until you're way up there at 7stops, so its really a non issue. plus its canon glass. Another solution to the battery, would be the extended grip. that'll have two batteries.. when i do eventually start using it, that's probably the route i'll go, with a quick swap out of the adapter for another two.. which would give me two hrs. Prob swap during the lens swap for tighter shots. I do love Canon though, but that Sony does everything for me, so its not giving me enough incentive to take the time out to learn the canon to the point, i'm not thinking about what i'm doing on site. Great vid keep up the good work. gonna look into your community.

Thanks for sharing your insights! I thought about that but I really use my 15-35 RF almost entirely so I couldn't use a drop in filter adapter. And it's been so nice now having even longer battery life than I've ever seen used to. Thanks for watching!

Been looking at r5c for a while. Can you confirm if you can run an external monitor like the Shinobi and still use the rear screen on the r5c? My biggest annoyance with the r6 and r8 is when I connect the external monitor the rear screen goes black and I have no way to move focus points around.

Yes! While I haven't used something like a Shinobi, any monitor I've used the screen can stay on. You can also send the BT709 or CMT709 preview lut over to a monitor which is really accurate, sometimes looks better than using monitor prebuilt ones or even your own LUTS. Full control over it, unlock the r6 mark ii I have like you mentioned. Thanks for watching!

@@AndreiRestrepo awesome. Sounds like an awesome upgrade. Plus I like that you can have wave forms and false colour built in for run and gun situations without an external monitor. After using those features it's hard to go back to using the histogram. If only it had built-in NDs. I am in the same boat as you with RF glass and wanting to utilise those lenses so it might be the nisi true colour variable NDs. Great video as always.

So how happy are you with the R5c / R6ii combo? I ask because I have 2 R6’s now and have really considered switching brands or going to your Setup. I’m completely satisfied with the photo capabilities I have now but so tired of the video side. Overheating, 30min record limit, not being able to use a monitor and the flip screen at the same time unless the monitor records too. Just looking for some re-assurance. I shoot about 50/50 photo video and need 2 cameras that are capable of both. Thinking the R5c would be the primary video and studio stills. R6ii would be the primary outdoor/action stills and hand held lightweight video camera.
@AndreiRestrepo
@AndreiRestrepo 3 ай бұрын
I totally feel you! Those were my biggest gripes with the R6 mark i. Jumping to the R6 mark ii fixes a lot of those. Never have OHing in any modes, no record limit, and 24mp photos a little better for cropping. Bummer about the monitor though, I think that still is the case. R5C obviously is phenomenal in the video dept, and for a stills camera too. Only drawback is no stabilization for photos on the R5C if the lens doesn't have any. But to answer your question, yes pretty happy with this setup! Super versatile for anything I need. Thanks for watching!

If you could purchase over again today would you stick with the R5C or would you go R5 ii ?
@AndreiRestrepo
@AndreiRestrepo 20 күн бұрын
Great question honestly! Still the R5C based on what I've seen for the R5ii. For the R5C, it has a built in fan, so no extra battery grip that seems like you'll still have to use with the R5ii to avoid OHing. The cinema operating system, which IMO is sooo much better than video system in the regular mirrorless cameras. And the fact that the r5ii is around $1K more plus however much in accessories for the new batteries and additional grip. Definitely would be nice to have clog2 in the R5C though, but it's not a big deal since the image looks great. I think I'm missing a few things but that's a few points for the R5C! How about you? What are you thinking?

@AndreiRestrepo man oh man I have no idea what sort of freaky things may take place beetween my bank account and canon in the next couple of weeks 😅. So here's my story. I'm still learning and in a spot we're I'm doing all of my work on the side mostly for no monetary gain just want the experience and some real life scenarios behind me. I purchased the R8 last year and have had nothing but issues OHing and error70 they replaced my first one and now the second one is back at canon with the same issues they are going to be crediting me a dollar amount we discussed that is slightly more than what I paid for the R8. The work I have done and the work that I enjoy falls perfectly in the middle beetween photo and video. Budget is not to much of a concern but also don't want to throw money out the window. I purchased smaller equipment such as the ronin rs3 mini because it worked great with the R8 "don't know if it would work with the R5C" and I just want something that is reliable and future proofed. I have a ton of learning to do still and so far just thoroughly enjoying my time with a camera in my hands so in all honesty I'm looking for an opinion here

Hey Christian! I think the R5C offers more than the R6 mark ii since it’s more video oriented and the same photo capabilities, but they’re both great. One determining factor would be how knowledgeable you are with cameras, photography basics, and all that! R5C being a cinema camera has a lot more of a learning curve compared to the r6 mark ii which is much easier to learn. If you’re new to this stuff, I’d go for the r6 mark ii. If you’ve used those before and are familiar with them and looking for more, I’d say the r5c would be the next step! Thanks for watching!

So you use the 15-35 for photos, what kens is attached to your camera for videos when you have it on the gimbal? Currently I have the Mark IV and shoot with a 70-200 for all my headshots but I need a second camera for events and second shooters, and I'm hoping to start doing more videography in the future. So I think this would be the perfect blend to complement my current setup.
@AndreiRestrepo
@AndreiRestrepo 2 ай бұрын
Hey there! I use the 15-35 for photos, and most of my video work! Having a wider focal length on a gimbal typically works best. Nice, I used to have a 5k mark iv, on of my favorite photo cams ever. If I’m being honest, I think this could actually be overkill or have a bit of a learning curve if you were to hand this off to a second shooter, even if they’re familiar with canon. Unless they are familiar with the canon cinema line, operating it could be quite difficult for them at first. For something like you’re talking about, I’d actually look at the R5, or the R6 mark ii. I have the r6 mark ii as my primary photo camera and b cam for video, and it’s great for that. And trust me, once you get a chance to use the newest AF capabilities in the new mirrorless line, it’ll be hard to go back to the 5d4, it’s next level! I’d say the R5C are for those that are wanting to deep dive into video and possibly looking to rig this out since you need battery solutions and stuff like that. Thanks for watching!

Are you using either system now? Or have a preference on either? I haven’t used the z9 but it is quite pricier than the r5c. I just think if you already have lenses for either system, stick with that one unless you’re looking to switch. I also think the r5c has less of a learning curve and is a lot more familiar with others, like tons of content on it you can easily look up. I think with either of those cameras you don’t “need” a 2.8 lens, just helps with low light scenes of course. But I imagine both cameras have good enough low light performance. @@AndreiRestrepo thank you for nice information. I haven’t have any camera and lens ? I am planning to buy new one . I am just back and forth about what should i do ? Should I buy Nikon or canon lol ? What’s your opinion about this situation? Thanks
@AndreiRestrepo

I’d maybe rent both and try them out! Canon has an easier leaving curve, more lens selections especially with EF glass and the adapter, and more affordable than the z9. I would even look at the r6 mark ii instead if I was just getting started.

So when I shoot in raw the only place I can change from CLOG 3 is in the editor. Is that what you are talking about or can you actually change it to C log 2 in camera.

I see that you answered this question about halfway through the video but when I shoot in raw I change it to C log 3 in the effect controls because otherwise I don't really like the noise profile in my Lut makes the colors look weird.

Yeah, it’s not like shooting in clog2 on a c70 or other cinema camera for example. What LUTS are you using? LUTS specially made for clog3 and clog2?

@@AndreiRestrepo Yes I downloaded luts directly from Canon. Unfortunately I think I'm going to have to double check my download file. I just found out that Cannon has different websites for different regions and I might have downloaded it from outside the US.

I swear by Phantom LUTS! A lot better highlight roll off and nicer colors than canons. I’m an affiliate and have them linked in my description but that’s honestly not why I’m bringing them up, they just work great.

Hey Andrei for someone like me who is a photographer and want to start video do you think i should go with the R5 or the R5C right now i have the eos R which i want to keep. Thanks in advance
@AndreiRestrepo
@AndreiRestrepo 4 ай бұрын
Hey! Honestly, I would use the EOS R till I've out grown it. But focus on learning all the photos basics on it and then upgrade. Like composition, video settings, story, editing, etc. Upgrading cameras will just give you more resolution and LOG, which is definitely worth it, but not so much in the beginning in my opinion. Have you looked at the R6 mark ii? Amazing hybrid camera for photo & video, much more affordable too!

What I want is r6iic. I need ibis and the r6ii 4k60p is sharper than the r5c. I just need a fan in r6ii and im good. Also I'm mostly in neutral profile not log and I'm very pleased with the results and quick turn around. Anyway nice video. I look forward to canon future cameras.

I think the 4k is sharper in the R5C if I’m not mistaken since it’s oversampled from the 8k sensor, vs the R6ii is oversampled from the 6k sensor. Regardless, they’re both incredibly sharp! Do you ever run into overheating with the R6ii? I haven’t at all in my year of having one. The digital IS is actually pretty good too in the R5C, especially with IS lenses. Thanks for watching!

@@AndreiRestrepo the 4k60p on r5c is not oversampled but lineskipped, but the 4k 24 and 30p are oversampled from 8k. Some other person made a comparison of the r5 and r6ii. Yes I get overheating in the r6ii in 4k60p, I prefer to do everything in 4k60p so I can slow down if necessary. I need as much stabilization as possible when out and about I have ibis and is lens and digital stabilization on. I have a gimbal I barely use because it's not practical for my videos.

Really?? Can you share that video? I thought it was all the 4k modes. I guess I could also just shoot in the 7-8k mp4 video modes if I really wanted too. That’s crazy, I shoot almost everything in 4k60 too on the R6ii and never had, or even attempted too, even for long shoots. Latest firmware update? Standby enabled?

I am actually wondering what NLE you are editing on. I covered it in my video where I talked about the long GOP XFAVC making premiere Pro crash on Windows. I end up having to shoot into frame and it takes up an incredible amount of data

Nice! I typically have the r5c rigged for video and then I use my r6 mark ii for RE/photo work since 24mp is plenty for me. But I love using the r5c for portrait/headshot work!

@@AndreiRestrepo Dude, I hear you. I also rig it out for video. It is a bit daunting but the quality is worth it. This is truly a hybrid camera, meant for both serious photographers and cinematographers. I'm sticking with it for now, who knows what the future holds. Speaking of, I am waiting for 2 R7s in the mail, as we speak. I do a lot of interviews, TED talks, live events, weddings, etc... (basically, not having a record limit is dope). It's 32 MPs and films in Clog3 as well so you can very closely match the color science and image quality of the R5C... #EcoSystemSwag
