Incredibly enjoyable. His height and strength mean he lifts her like a feather. Their techniques are both so strong, the whole pas de deux seems effortless. Because they were enjoying it so much, so did we. Absolutely marvellous.

He lifts her like a feather because she's like a feather indeed XD Diets and so on... That's because he can lift her :)
@Jules-ix9ih Жыл бұрын
@@okey-dokey6914 Not sure what an "XD Diet" is, but I don't think she'd have the energy to complete such a demanding pas de deux if she hadn't had her breakfast. Physically, dancers work very hard and just because she is slim doesn't mean she isn't strong and healthy and able to help her partner in the lifts.

pirouettes into a la seconde done exactly right! Nela never ages apparently. Reece has developed into a powerhouse virtuoso.

Marianela is the best dancer of our era. Her large solid career supports it. What a pleasure to see her dance.

I agree, Marianela is a marvel. On that same level is Alina Samova. There are many videos featuring her on KZfaq. Lopatkina and Zakarova are also among the greats. Check them out if the spirit moves you.

What about Natalia Osipova, Alexandra Ferri, Olga Smirnova, …. I think it’s impossible to make a ranking, because there are quite a few wonderful ballerinas. They are all so different, but equally successful
@classicalaid1 Жыл бұрын
@@mathildewesendonck7225 The dancers you mention are wonderful, if truth be told. But historically there is one ballerina who is considered one of the three greatest of the century and that is Maya Plisetskaya. Check her out on KZfaq as well as Wikipedia. There are also a number of DVDs devoted to her art.

I think 'She's One of the Best of the era. There are many who are absolutely incredible and each ballerina has their own unique style and qualities. 🥰💃

@@classicalaid1 of course I know who Plissetskaya is 😃 I was mentioning some living ballerinas, and I didn’t finish the list. The post above is about ballerinas „of our era“

I love ballet when dancers have technique AND musicality. It is rare!!! Well done you two. GORGEOUS
@momcat2223 Жыл бұрын
The smiles, the laughter, Marianela applauding Reece from the wings - these two are so well-paired in so many ways that transcend the very difficult art at which they're so proficient. Joyous to watch, even in rehearsal togs.

Reece Clarke is such an incredible dancer. His movements are like air, he's so light. He makes everything, from the jumps to the spins to the partner lifts, look absolutely effortless.

Even the time Reece spends in the air is musical. How can that be? Such astonishing ballon.

Those fish dives in the coda are about the best I’ve seen since the days of Suzanne Farrell and Peter Martins. Their fishdives are recorded for posterity in the 1977 movie, “The Turning Point.”

Like many South American women, she radiates warmth and an openhearted spirit. Here in the north, a different sensibility tends to prevail.

I have seen this pas de deux many, many times at the International Ballet Competition in Varna. It was only played by third round prize contenders. Sophisticated and so interesting as a style. Marianella! One of the brightest ballerinas in the world, with amazing technique, emotion and feeling for dance as music. A wonderful partner who makes his lady stand out. Loud applause from Bulgaria!

First Grand Pas Classique and now this! Thank you so much. We missed seeing Clarke with Nela a few years ago in R&J and wow! I just love him! Similar long, lean line to young Kevin McKenzie. I like him at least as well as Bracewell. Gotta love non-Balanchine dancers hitting all those Balanchine accents. Loved everything here, but esp Nela's turning sequence in the coda---she pulls one more accent out of the little chainee sequence I haven't seen before. I love that she just keeps getting better and better the longer she dances!

I loved those fish dives! They made them seem so daring and effortless, bravo!
@michaelsefi37902 жыл бұрын
The only thing I'd say about the fish dives is that I think Balanchine meant for the ballerina to look up at her partner.
@avesraggiana Жыл бұрын
@@michaelsefi3790 Maybe, maybe not. Balanchine was known for never caring to preserve his choreography, and would change things with impunity to highlight the strengths of the dancer taking on a role new to them. It’s no wonder that today there are literally dozens of “definitive Balanchine version(s)” of any given pas de deux; because he created dozens of them .
@michaelsefi3790 Жыл бұрын
@@avesraggiana Balanchine was not alone in changing choreography to suit particular dancers. While not on the same scale, while developing a piece Ashton was apparently notorious in changing choreography in mid-stream, as it were. And Petipa was apparently a past-master of the same. (As to that, the origin of the pdd is fascinating; After the initial performances of Swan Lake in 1877 in Moscow, a little later [a year or two?] a new dancer to the role of Odile wanted a pdd inserted in Act 3. [The big, today iconic, pdd with fouettes etc was only transferred from Act 1 to Act 3 by Petipa for the St Petersburg revival, if that's not a much too mild a word for what Petipa and Ivanov did to the ballet.] Apparently initially Minkus or Drigo composed for the interpolated pdd, but Tchaikovsky heard about the addition and insisted he should compose the music for it. The pdd was lost after the revision/re-choreographing in 1895 and only the music is said to have survived and was found by Balanchine in the 1950s in the Mariinsky archives. I love it as a piece of music - and don't much care if there are subtle or even overt choreographic changes as long as they enhance the piece...!)

I've never seen any other ballerina doing this quick rond de jambe double 5:24 so precisely and perfectly with the music. Vaganova trainees demonstrate perfect double ronds in their classes but when it comes to this variation, the second rond is always late and blurred. Thank you for this footage.
