If you watch other stand up late night sets, you’ll see they do this to a lot of people. And the reason why is because some comics use a lot of gestures or are more physical with their jokes. When they’re doing their act outs, the audio would be lost in their movement which is why they also have lapel mics. It’s a back up to keep the audio consistent and leveled. Hope this helps!

My Dad was amazingly like Andrew Dice Clay, including that he smoked like a chimney for most of his life. A New York Jew, if ever there was one. He was a huge fan of Lenny Bruce, wore a leather motorcycle in his off-time, and he was unrelentingly loud and obscene; AND-he once spent an evening drinking martinis and telling jokes with Adam West, who played 'Batman' in the TV show version of it. Oy vay.

And the crowd still booed. He did a song I can't find any where. it was My Favorite Things, to the Mary Poppins song.

The fact that he came back just to do a whole act parodying himself is so incredibly next-level genius. The best part is, this whole thing is completely lost on his fans. This guy is WILD for this 😂.

They really should have let him curse, and just bleeped it for the FCC. Hearing the bleep would be better than hearing him censor himself by omitting certain parts of the "offensive" word.
