In fact, faceshell is made to fit the lenses correctly and placing the center of the mask right easily Moreover, the Stunt crew was also wearing those shell so, all the staff could fit the spider face, even if it wasn’t Garfield under the mask. Last fact, faceshell was also used in the production made by Sam Raimi for Tobey

Actually the underneath helmet doesn't cover the ears, but the fabric is thick and tight enough to make ears barely visible.

Man the faceshell they did for this movie is so smart, you can tell how much they learned from Tobey’s first suit and andrews first. The spandex on the back to keep the hair down and make the shell seamless is something even cosplayers haven’t really done yet
