I think his best DS9 moment was during the episode about the fake data rod presented to the Romulan Ambassador, where Sisko barges in and slaps Garak, then Garak goes on and reveals what he had planned all along, it was even more genius than I thought in the beginning.

For many years this guy creeped me out as Scorpio. Then it was so refreshing to see him in other roles and to see the real life interviews with him. What a great guy... so down to earth and pleasant. Such a great actor too considering he really sold Scorpio as one of the most unlikable villains in film history.

That was the crux of DS9 - all the characters had complex personalities and past histories that gave them all emotional strengths and weaknesses. No one was "the perfect Starfleet officer/hero" stereotype. DS9 was Star Trek for a more mature and cleverer audience than the other series. I would say that DS9 was designed to make you think first and entertain second whereas the other shows were vice versa.

When Garrick appeared in an episode there always was an anticipation. You never knew if he was telling the truth, who he would align himself with, who he would betray, what ends justify the means explanation he was gonna have, and most importantly what his play, deception, and intentions really were. Such an amazing character portrayed by a fantastic actor.

After seeing him a few times I finally placed him as the villain in the first Dirty Harry movie. After that I still didn't know what to make of Garak, but his character became more fun for me. Garak, brilliantly played as he was, legitimises this series above all the others as something which isn't just cowboys with ray guns but demonstrates how scifi can mirror real experiences, people and life. Andrew Robinson was superb in the role and it was a shame that he never received star billing in the opening credits, as he was easily as essential to the series as Shimerman and Meaney. A pity that he wasn't sold on the Mirror Universe Garak scriptwriting though - I don't think the MU episodes were ever meant to be deep or meaningful, they were just simple, old-fashioned fun and he had a wonderful master/servant comedy dynamic going with Michael Dorn.
