Achingly beautiful film for anyone to enjoy but especially the queer community. It asks us to really question the environments we’re raised in and how this affects all our adult relationships. I saw it last night and I keep thinking about scenes, it’s really affected me. I will need to watch it again however I don’t know when because it’s emotionally quite draining. It’s rare to come out of the cinema and have so many thoughts and questions about what you’ve just witnessed. Absolutely phenomenal performances by all 4 actors. Andrew Haigh is masterful.

I have been an enthusiastic fan of theater and cinema films since I was a child. “All of Us Strangers” literally knocked my socks off. I have watched it several times and continue to find it fascinating and brilliant. … All of Us Strangers is a poetic and profound romantic film that takes up the motifs of the ghost film, similar to the film “The Sixth Sense”, just gentler and more sensitive. The story is about two men of different ages who meet in an anonymous high-rise building in London, but a childhood trauma weighs on the older man, and he does everything possible to solve it. The younger man is literally overwhelmed by his loneliness and wants to free himself from it. … Andrew Haigh has directed his emotional drama with great sensitivity and shows the social changes in the acceptance of homosexuality in his characters' conversations. Starting with the parents, to the relationship between Adam and Harry. ... The performances of the two main actors (Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal) are impressive and convincing and reflect a real relationship.… A really worth seeing film that is simply perfect. All of Us Strangers will leave a lasting mark on my memory as it awakens my memories and feelings of my childhood.

This film deserved more awards attention. The writing, directing, the acting. Oof, it's still with me, and will be with me a long time. It resonated from the childhood memories to the reasons why I'm single at a similar age as character Adam. Heartbreaking throughout, but that ending.

Watched last night and adored 💜💜💜 Profoundly moving and has impacted me deeply. Being the same age as Adam I’m very pensive about what I watched as is my partner; reflecting deeply on our own lived experience. Coincidentally we even watched TOTP 1984 and 85 this last week and are totally absorbed by the play list in the film and remember it as part of our teenage awakenings 🎥 SPOILER alert: we are both of the opinion that Adam is also a lost soul looking for answers before he can rest in peace. The apartment block feels like a purgatory place for spirits looking for some sort of resolution and peace - Adam included. His illness we wondered if it was AIDS related. His lack of interaction with people who don’t see him. Even dancing in the RVT to Joe Smooth Promised Land felt like a message about accepting and passing on. The measure of the power of the film is all the questions it raises - total show don’t tell. When Harry said to Adam with tears in his eyes “I understand” I heard the thousands of thoughts behind that simple sentence and knew the same - I knew how Adam felt and as a stranger on the edge of my family how Harry felt as well 💜💜💜 Thank you for sharing their life stories and representing this truth on screen that so many experienced 💜💜💜

I really really like that theory, although its likely because i wonder how in the world he was supposed to reintegrate into "normal life" after what he'd gone through. But again youre both right in how the world beyond harry and his parents barely existed for him, how everything else seemed to be that kind of purgatory already. Thinking about the illness, I do know that in the book the character began to fall sick because it was the trade off of seeing his parents, and thats part of why they let him go... but i wouldn't rule out the AIDs aspect, especially given how relevant it would be for this particular retelling.

Love this movie. Saw it a little while ago and I still can’t stop thinking about it. It stays with me. I wish I could’ve visited my mom. She passed away when I was 15. What a cool thing that would’ve been. But the emotion between Andrew and Paul’s characters, even during (I don’t like to call them sex) their love scenes it’s just seems to come so natural and such intimacy. Mr. Haigh did a beautiful job with this film. Right now this is one of my favorite films and I still cry my eyes out over the emotion, sadness and love between all of the characters. Well done.

This film is absolutely amazing. There are movies that are acceptable/good, then there are movies I love and will watch over and over, and then there are the very few that stun me and I can't stop thinking about, days after I watch them. This film is in that category. The script is perfect, the performances are perfect, the directing and vision of the film is perfect throughout. This is Oscar winning film making, rather then the sub par crap that usually gets awarded!!!!

As much as I love this film (easily on my all time favs list), it’s such a powerful, haunting portrayal of loneliness that I’m glad I’m seeing it later in life. As a hopeless teenager, it would only reinforce my expectations of a bleak future.

Saw this film based on a Japanese book and film yesterday , it was moving , in an existential way about loneliness, grief, childhood, nuance and loss it has a beauty to it as well. Would give it 4.5 /5 and perhaps see it again after two weeks or so , which is unusual for me.

I know there's a book which I've reserved that isn't the same. I really enjoyed the film, very emotional. It reminded me of parts of Weekend (very underrated Andrew Haigh film) where Russell didn't know his parents, was worried about sex leading to infection and finds the more outgoing Glen who is more open than him. I think all the main actors here were good, especially Andrew Scott but Jamie's hug moment made me cry when I was watching it, he was brilliant in Rocketman too but he kind of flies under the radar as an actor.

There was no streaming services in those days so I went to the theater 7 times to see Brokeback Mountain. A year ago I found Andrew Haigh's Weekend and declared it the best gay movie ever made. Like cooking, he showed us every cup and tablespoon and teaspoon it takes to fall in love - in one weekend. Now he goes one gigantic stop further and shows the the "recipes" for familial love AND romantic love. Better than Weekend??? I'm not ready to make that assessment.

Paul Mescal's comments are interesting when he says this is a sex-forward relationship. I heard from (the now disgraced) James Somerton that gays have relationships likes baseball, but in reverse. In the US, the game of baseball has a player that tries to go from first base to second to third base. When applied to relationships, it starts with knowing the person first and getting to sex as the last step where Somerton (probably cribbing from someone else) says gays start off at third base (sex) and work their way to first (having a relationship). That's not always conveyed in films where gay relationships often mimics stereotypical heterosexual relationships. Fellow Travelers also has this approach of being sex-forward first.
