Sabresonic was a weekly Friday night event that ran from mid 1993 - mid 1994. The parties took place at Happy Jax night club in Crucifix Lane, London (UK) and were the concept of DJ/Producer Andrew Weatherall. The music style would range from dub reggae, downtempo and experimental electronics and progress towards harder techno as the night developed. Finishing 2.30am each week, Weatherall AKA ‘Lord Sabre’ would often either open or close depending on which carefully selected guests (from Jah Wobble to Richie Hawtin) were playing that week. Compact and to-the-point, these line-ups and early closing ensured things would always end on a high note.
Sabresonic (and subsequently Sabresonic2) - although much shorter lived as a club night than other London techno events such as Steve Bicknell’s Lost parties - had a significant influence on the London scene at the time and were witness to some defining moments in the city’s electronic music history - notably the debut Live performance by the Chemical Brothers (Then known as ‘The Dust Brothers’) on March 18th 1994...
While I believe this selection was originally recorded for BBC’s Essential mix, the visual elements have been put together to give some aesthetic to the ‘Sabresonic’ sound Weatherall was playing at the time and as an aide memoire for anyone who was there in ’93...
