This doctrine of "Finished Works" was started by a guy called William Durham in about 1900. It caused a big split in the Azuza Street revival as William J Seymour & other founders of the Azuza street revival rejected it as a false doctrine. Before this "finish works" doctrine, the "Second Blessing" doctrine was taught which originated with John Wesley and was passed down to people such as Smith Wigglesworth, Charles Finney, John G Lake, William J Seymour. This "Finished Works" doctrine eventually caused the power to go out of the Azuza Street Revival and since then this is the doctrine that has been accepted by the church as a whole. Because of this there has never been such a move of God as since the Azuza Street revival. "having a form of godliness but denying its power." 2 Timothy 3:5
