I really wonder what is done to deter actual aggressive sharks. We’re seeing many sharks who seem quite accepting of humans maybe due to seeing humans more often enough to know humans aren’t enemies. Maybe the ocean will be a little more safer with all of the understanding that we can all learn by observing the divers as they navigate with sharks around. Very positive observations!✅

These tactics are used by professionals who swim with sharks constantly. Sharks are not aggressive creatures by nature and rarely attack prey outside their normal diet. People have incorrect assumptions about them based on crappy media. Is it smart to swim with sharks? Not really. There is still a chance they will decide you are worth the trouble. The point being made is that most shark attacks happen because people act like prey. Thrashing around, swimming on the surface, floating on the surface looking like a seal because your on a surf board, etc. If you confront them calmly, they are astronomically less likely to attack you since they can tell you aren't their normal prey.

Also, the entire pattern only possibly works when you can see the shark and are quick enough to react. Even taking into account their normal feeding habits, they are not moving that slowly to begin with. This is a silly, limited situation in crystal-clear waters where you are interacting with a specific shark in a specific encounter. People engage in the same behavior and make the same absurd remarks regarding crocs. It's one thing to observe a pattern and quite another to think it will keep you safe. People are conflating a tactic that gives you better odds in an encounter with actually being safe to do. @@TripleTapHK

I’ve got an even better suggestion, don’t swim where you know Tiger, Bull or Great White Sharks will be. I’d add Oceanic white tips to that list as well but they don’t tend to come into shore. All those other sharks will happily come into 3 feet of water. However, if you insist on going into an ocean where these sharks are, always make sure you’re surrounded by other people, never swim out alone. Yes, Shark attacks are rare, but they DO happen, and as humans continually overfish, thus taking away a large portion of what sharks eat, they will then resort to other prey that they do not necessarily like, but which is easy prey (I.E, humans).
@andreg27276 ай бұрын

I once went swimming with dolphins in New Zealand waters off Kaikoura. After swimming with them for some time, the pod suddenly swam away rather quickly. A large mass swam below me. It was either a whale or a shark. But I was instantly afraid cause why would they be swimming away from a whale?! I swam as calm as I could to the boat- careful not to splash or show distress. I even tried to keep my heart rate down. I could feel I was being watched. When I finally made it aboard- the Kiwis asked me if I wanted to go back in, and I said “Hell no”

Good advice but Tigersharks are known, when they really are in a hunting mood and hungry, they will not been seen until you gonna seeing them coming in hot for a attack, they are so quick in movements and speed nothing much someone can do about it as, they will likely have already a junk of you and going even more bersk for another quickly attack. No redirections would been possible at all or keeping an good eye on them. They are on that trip, it's over. We all most of us have seen, about that brutal Egypt tigershark attack. The water was not clear yes but that Tigershark came out of nowhere while the guy was only swimming and that shark attacked him by a high speed and angles, repeating it until dragging him under. I know, this happens not often but it can happen once a Tigershark goes for it. Just like with this Kayak dude, where in clearer water a Tigershark came also out of nowhere and at high speed to attacking his Kayak boat. Tigersharks can been calm and curious without any sign of being aggressive but damn if they become, you wont even see it coming at all cause then they already took a bite.

@maryreed45346 күн бұрын
He spent way too much time out in the wilderness with bears. I'm actually surprised that he wasn't killed sooner. He had completely lost his grip on reality. They were supposed to have gone home, two weeks before he and Amy were eaten. Why? It was hibernation time, and bears eat whatever they can find. He got in a pissing match with an airline employee and decided to go back to his camp. The bear that he filmed that day, was way underweight and had not been allowed by other male bears, to consume massive amounts of food in preparation for hibernation. Clearly, Timothy Treadwell had completely lost it, when he stood feet away from a bear, that he knew was starving, and filmed himself saying, If you did this, you would be killed. I felt really bad for his girlfriend. She never wanted to go out there. She did it for him, and he got her killed, by an old skinny bear, just trying to survive.

I agree. Andriana really knows Ocean & its wildlife as a Marine Biologist. My only "but" and concern, as she's really looking to change the way still nowadays many people deem sharks, is that she should wear a steel-net-woven swim suit because there's a risk part which is never ever under her control and then, if sadly something went wrong (I wish not 🤞🙏) it would mean breaking up abruptly doing what she loves so much doing and she convey us so well over her videos
@patslouka9156 ай бұрын
@@joannicolaujene5504I doupt if a steel mesh swimsuit will work for a shark twice her size or larger. I believe their bite force goes beyond that threshold. I could be wrong. Who wants to test it????

The sharks actually avoid divers coz they can see clearly they’re not prey. I am a scuba and a free diver and sometimes I feel like I see sharks roll their eyes at us when we dive like. “Ugh! It’s these species again…” 😂

It’s a great point, but it would still be hard to do. When panic and fear set in, rational thought tends to take a back seat. This is what sets brave ppl apart from “normal” ppl.

This is excellent advice not merely for sharks, but for basically all ocean predators! I found out the hard way: I was snorkeling in French Polynesia with my ex on my honeymoon: I saw a cool stonefish and tried to get by hubby's attention by smacking the surface of the water with my palms and fins. Well, it did indeed catch my hubby's attention...but it also cauth the attention of a giant Javanese moray eel!! This thing had a face like a monster out of a nightmare, with HUGE snaggleteeth, and was easily longer than I am tall and about as big around as my thigh or even my waist!! 😱😭 Luckily, I immediately remembered to just float silently, and after snapping aggressively at my head and swimming around me, the eel finally swam off. 😅

This might sound stupid, but I used to feed the sharks sometimes, and they recognized me. One day, I went swimming in the same part of water and a shark chased after me, and I was dumb and naive, so I grabbed onto the shark’s fin and swam with it.
