@@Seweyman601courtois is only 31. He can probably play at the top level until he’s 35 or 36. By then lunin will be around 30 already and probably left to another club to get game time. I really don’t see rm selling courtois. I get the lunin hype but it is way too early and crazy recency bias to say he is better than courtois.

@swan809 Lunin has always been a promising keeper for me. No chance they sell Courtois, but I definitely see RM giving Lunin more game time, especially later. Even if Courtois still has a few good years in him, I think they'll start phasing him out slowly in a few if Lunin is still with them and playing well. Honestly, though, I don't see Lunin staying if he doesn't get much playtime with Courtois back.

@ahmedkhawaja5376 I think it's more likely they alternate between the two for the league but keep Courtois as their primary keeper for CL and other cups. Who knows for sure though 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, but you have to look at it from another perspective too: age. He’s already this good when he is this young, he could be world class in a few years. Courtois is world class already, but he’s old. I think the wise thing is to give the young guy playing time and let him develop his immense potential, that way you have him for the next 10+ years.

@@thelyonking5812 But Real Madrid is a huge club and needs success right now and in the future. Courtois is still significantly better and can easily stay at that level for at least 3-4 years more. Lunin should go on loan again to get play time and experience. It would be ridiculous to drop Courtois for Lunin already. Courtois isn't even that old, especially for a goalkeeper. Many good goalkeepers played at the highest level until the age of 36-40. Courtois is only 31. By your logic they should've replaced Modric 7 years ago for a younger midfielder

Lunin was shaky against City in the 1st leg, not surprising it was his first match at the level and more than made up for it with his heroics later on in the 2nd leg. Dodgy against Barcelona as well, but this natural for a 25 year old goalkeeper, Lunin is not completely mature yet but should still keep his spot even after Courtois arrival. From next season the better performer starts

From what I’ve seen in the history of football, if he doesn’t become the first choice keeper at Madrid next season, he’ll most likely leave the season after. Unless ofc they give him a crazy contract. But if he doesn’t continue to get play time he’s probably gonna leave.

I think for now, when courtois comes back, he will probably be a second choice, but more used, maybe 25% of all Madrid games, and as courtois ages, until they sell him, lunin will increase game time until he’s 1st choice over courtois or until they sell him for his age

He is defo first choice quality but not for Real Madrid. There’s no way he could replace Thibaut Cortouis. Lunin is good but if he wants to be a no.1 then he’ll need to find another top team who don’t already have a world class goalie.

Hopefully Madrid can extend his contract and send him out on loan for a couple of years to a good team (Inter, Juve, Chelsea, Leverkusen etc) Or sell him with a buy back clause. This will give Lunin some game time and experience and Madrid can get him back once Courtois is past his prime

Don't overestimate him. He's a solid keeper but he still makes many mistakes, just look at the last classico. He's still young, yes, but how on earth would he be better than Courtois? Imo the best move for him would be to finally leave Madrid and join an ambitious club playing in the EL or CL
