Next time I’m buying a phone it’s gonna be something budget and repairable. Save the money for a Switch 2 and a steam deck. Phone games haven’t been interesting in a decade. Blowing $2k every five years on phones that ALWAYS die or break in some unforeseen way. Like the SoC becomes useless. Or the touchscreen stops working properly. Why is glass on both sides? Use plastic on the back it’s lighter. I’m completely over form over function design.

Facts I have a telescoping controller but I only use it for emulators like PS2 , GameCube, snes and old school mame. Until android gets current triple a console releases like iOS is getting mobile gaming is nothing without emulation

True but its the biggest market gaming wise. They make a lot of money with mtx and in app purchases. Not to mention the quick ease of use. Plenty of people in third world countries can't afford a PC or console use phones to play games like PUBG mobile. I myself have a Oneplus 8T and use it for phone activities and have a AYN Odin 2 for gaming...that too only Android games without ads/in app purchases and emulation.

ROG Phones have their own dedicated controllers, though I don't know any variant that has it bundled in.

Rog phones also have that bundle it's kinda cool but that's far they can get. Since big AAA devs won't make a exclusive games from phones.

Most racing chairs are so uncomfortable to sit in, I had to cough up the $800 for a Herman Miller Sayl on sale, because most of the cheap chairs and racing chairs were giving me deep vein thrombosis or forcing me to sit with my knees to my chest because of how awful racing chairs are to sit in. Not to mention due to the leather that they use, sweat collects really easily and causes rashes even just sitting in them for 30 minutes. Never had that issue with soft fabric. If you work at your desk all day, a good pair of open back headphones, an adjustable VESA monitor mount, and a good chair are incredibly underrated.

NO sensible adult over the age of 28 should be buying a gaming chair, office chairs are ergonomic and more comfortable, undercuts the overpriced gaming chairs on lower end as well.

Genshin is okay (good if you place a single player, garbage if you want decent multiplayer). The problem that is that it's a gacha game, and it requires an internet connection. What people were expecting is games on part of the DS or the PSP, instead we got gambling disguised as a game. Sometimes the games are good (Genshin, Star Rail, from what I hear also punishing grey raven etc). But it's all just gacha shit. There are no good games in the traditional sense. That's why people will laugh at you if you say you're a gamer, but you only play on the phone. Because the quality of games is just garbage, except for ports, emulation and gacha. There's nothing wrong with expecting GTA, as long as people don't also expect GTA v graphics? (though arguably that could also be possible...). The PSP had Voice City Stories. Was a decade ago. Good way to put it - software has lagged what hardware is capable of on phones. For a long time too. Read an article from 2013 that was saying phones then were overkill. which begs the question... why? Why are phone makers dumping crazy gaming laptop level specs into devices everyone is using for candy crush level fare? It's wasteful and frustrating seeing the squandered potential of a decade of half of humanity carrying super computers in their pockets.

"Those phones never made sense" okay. "dumb to buy a phone for gaming" that sound dumb. I bought a $80 used Android and played tons of games, with my Gamesir controller.

If devs start utilizing the mobile platform to make legit game ports/versions, we could see a reason for such a thing. Phones already support controllers as well as display to external monitors, which means they’d work perfect for gaming casually. The mobile game scene needs to grow and there’s no doubt it will once the money-hungry companies’ products get snuffed out by actual quality. Imagine being able to play a AAA title, something like Zelda Totk, on your phone instead of having to buy an entire game console/PC! There is simply too much potential for it to not be utilized at some point.

@@jmgonzales7701 The Xperia play came out at a time when phones were only just starting to become mainstream and Sony already had the PSP to sell at the time so it kinda makes sense they didn't push the concept further even though they probably could have. Sony could totally start a mobile gaming revolution right now if they made an effort to get their games on mobile devices along with consoles and PCs, since phones are much more prevalent now, but it would be a pretty big decision on their part for multiple reasons. I think that in order to get a true mobile gaming comeback we need SOME major company to push it, like Meta is doing with VR gaming. Sony could hire game studios specifically for developing mobile versions/ports of their titles (like they probably did with Resident Evil on IPhone) and i'm sure that would cause people to buy and play their games more if they did. However, I think it would be a rock and a hard place for Sony on the hardware side because the phones that people use already are not hyperfocused on performance like the game consoles/handhelds that Sony would want to make, thus forcing Sony to either not create a phone at all or to insert themselves into that part of the market at the same time by creating a very solid phone themselves which would be a whole other can of worms. They COULD also create an android-based handheld made to play the mobile versions of these games better than almost any phone on the market and that could appeal to people, but at that point it's not even phone gaming, it's handheld gaming and the phone hardware would catch up in a few years! It would truly be awesome to see Sony do something like this but i guess only time would tell. Their best option is probably creating a fairly compact handheld that can very comfortably play the "mobile" versions of their game ports at high resolutions and then be like "surprise! You can use your phone to play these games too, they just wont be as good on there compared to the Sony Handheld!" Either that happens, or some REALLY good game comes out on mobile that people are all wanting to play and causes more devs to want to make games on there too, kickstarting quality mobile gaming. I really want to see an indie dev team or even AAA studio create a truly console-level experience for everyone on mobile so something like this can happen.

It's all about emulation. You can play every console up to PS2 and even Switch technically. All in the palm of your hand. Crazy.

Sure you can get a pc, but to build a half decent one it can actually cost north of $2000 due to taxes. Not all gaming phones are irrelevant. Currently the best phones for gaming are Samsung and red magic because of Samsung Dex and red magic console mode. Other phones do not have similar functionalities. But, when ordinary phones will start bringing console modes, then gaming phones would make no sense.

Modern iPhones do pretty well with gaming, I play all the demanding titles on my iPhone with 90hz - 120hz and mid to high graphics without issues

This. Also if you're into Insta 360 cameras, on phone video editing is extremely resource heavy. Phones with dedicated cooling can handle it without thermal throttling. If you're sad about missing SD cards check out the 'Hagibis Magnetic M.2 2230 NVMe SSD Enclosure' for a cool alternative. It kinda matches the 9 Pro Snowfall coloring.

Had a Redmagic 8pro. Returned it for a ROG 7. I do think the Redmagic 9pro beats the ROG 8 though. I'm probably going to get an Experia Mark VII if Sony still keeps the SD card slot when I'm done with my ROG 7. Though Redmagic might nab me if they advance enough in that timeframe. Unfortunately ASUS is moving backwards. The ROG 8 compromises too much.

As soon as smartphones can run basically any modern PC game at good performance, portable PCs handhelds like the Steam Deck will become obsolete (and so will x64-86 gaming laptops, for that matter). Also, a lot of gaming smart phones in the past lacked a good built in cooling system. Phones like the Red Magic 8-9 solves this. Overall, this niche market is young, and the hardware and software are not quite there yet. So, basically Gaming phones are just starting to get good and are simply ahead of their time.

In fact, in the EU they used the Exynos 2100 for the S21 lineup but for the S21 FE we got the Snapdragon 888 which was a bit better. So, in that regard the S21 FE was actually a slight upgrade over the S21/S21+/S21 Ultra. The S20 FE (the first of its kind) also followed this formula. The only really bad thing about the S21 FE was the fact that it was released a bit too late compared to the S20 FE.

The only reason mobile gaming is big here in these places is because consoles and gaming PCs are expensive. Everyone have a smartphone anyway so they can use it without further investiments, but it's a big investment to get a console or gaming pc. Here in Brazil a decent gaming PC costs over 4 monthly minimum wages if you don't use bootleg parts on it or XEON CPUs. A console + TV will cost around 3 minimum wages and have a subscription to play online. Most of these people play mobile games out of necessity, not because they like playing mobile.

headphone jack, the pen and the sd cards are some of the reasons i'm still rocking a galaxy note 10 lite (which is a cheaper version that performs like a galaxy note 9 more or less). it does what i need it to do, and has the features i need it to have. i don't see changing to something newer as anything but a downgrade.

steam deck does all of that better and is able to emulate up to ps3 and xbox360, and you can plug it to a tv with no input lag and use it as a regular console, unlike phones which all have super laggy hdmi-outs, when they even have that feature. plus you can add 4tb of storage to it pretty cheaply, while you'll be struggling with storage on phones. not to mention that phnoes die off way faster when you play games on them a lot - my sisters' galaxy s22 went to hell after less than a year playing that dumb mmorpg that ripped genshin impact off... tower of fantasy i think. moreover, there are dedicated emulation handhelds for that for under $100 bucks that have a very small form factor and can be what you want them to be, plus using them won't drain your phone's battery and you can keep them after you upgrade phones, which you can do way more cheaply because you won't be concerned about useless gaming features. playing emulators on phones is still cope. it's pretty bad.

Handhelds are more compact than phones. A lot of them have smaller screens. My Retroid Pocket 2S is a lot smaller than my Oneplus 8T.

That looks like a good deal and 512 gb is a good size, overall. I have been considering only phones with an SD card slot but I may have to give Red Magic another look. The guy above is right that they only do 2 years of updates, though, and I plan on having it longer than that so that is definetly a con. I am just wondering how much of a con that really is.
