My husband and I was scammed twice last year, totaling losses over $550k. It was a lengthy process involving federal intervention to get our money back. We need more people like Retrievebackteam taking a stand against these criminals. Much love and support from California.

One of the key things he said was don’t get caught up in the urgency. All scammers use urgency to their advantage. Whether they are trying to get your bank information or telling you you’ll miss out on this amazing investment opportunity. Try to walk away and take a breath or even run it by a friend to get their take because they won’t be as emotionally charged.

True. I think after having so many serious life-or-death experiences, I've become completely immune to time pressure. I never take calls, I always initiate contact when and if I want to. Another benefit is that people perceive me as not being needy, because I'm not.

A scammer called my mom and said they were Amazon saying, "a Mac book will be delivered to you in a half hour, did you make this purchase?" .... they tried to scare her into thinking she had a half hour to cancel. As if Amazon EVER calls you to see what you ordered or can tell you you're getting ANYTHING in 30 minutes. Lol😂 Thankfully she thought my dad ordered it and didn't care, and hung up... but I explained things to her bcz she doesn't really use Amazon much.

@@bbrands49 ...this is why I tell everyone: ACT LIKE YOU ARE A CELEB. People NEED you, not the other way around. On WHAT planet does it make sense that someone wants to give you a macbook, but they HAVE to give it to you asap? Unless it's a time-sensitive bomb, there's no reason someone NEEDS to pass off a laptop to you. USE LOGIC!!!!!! I feel like logic is on short supply these days. Skepticism is crucial.

One thing to keep in mind is that there are malicious people working in the real bank's call centers. They could be responsible for alerting the scammers when a person's card is reported missing/stolen... which initiates this scam process at just the right time. All they need is your email address which is often not considered private info, so it is often accessible to many levels of employees at these call centers.

Most of the disappearing money from people's accounts and them using the ATMs - are, most likely - done by people working in the bank. OR - they give the information to a friend - who learns how to be a SCAMMER. Can't believe the banks can't track his money - and others.

@@allthingsnu4673they are really "bank employees" through. Most big banks hire out third party call centers in India. These call centers are the scammers not the bank. If the banks only hired Americans in American call centers, you wouldn't have this problem.

It's also important to realize that ANYONE can fall for these scams. All it takes are the right circumstances, being in a poor state of mind, and something that looks convincing at face value to get caught up in one of these scams. Even scam-baiters like Jim Browning have fallen victim. Just be alert, take your time, and don't be bullied into making snap decisions. And if you're ever not sure if something is a scam, ask your bank or ask a trusted friend.

My impression of him has now completely changed.

I almost fell for one that involved "USPS" in an email telling me that they -- the post office -- couldn't verify my address to send on a package addressed to me. Then, they wanted $.86 (yes, eighty-six cents!) to cover extra postage. Most people would say, oh, I can pay that small an amount. I almost did, except then I -- as Andy recommended -- took a breath and realized that if anybody knows my address it's the Postal Service! So, I deleted and balocked the email. All this is so scary. Thank you for talking about this. People are so embarrassed and ashamed for failing for a scam. That happened to a family member of mine. The money was reimbursed the money from the bank. It took 5 month and 2 days but got it back plus an extra1500.00 because the lack of the Bank's due diligence. I've posted a video how to get your money back on youtube. I hope you got your money back.

Wire transfers can't be reversed. The bank also considers him liable since he "authorized" the charges by giving them the codes.

@gumdrop27 they said that about debit cards, too. But banks are supposed to detect unusual activity. Again, where there's a will, there's a way.

It happened to me last January. Gave them access and they took $12,000 from me. Exactly the same thing that Andy is describing. When they called me it was my bank's phone number.

After getting a number of obviously bogus emails from companies, such as Xfinity, Norton, PayPal and so on, I noticed very quicky the email addresses were totally wrong, I'm glad Andy stressed that. I would have also liked to have asked Andy if the person that he spoke to had an accent, because the majority of these fraudulent call centers are located overseas.

Report them as spam so the email provider can flag them for other people.

My sister in law lost $30,000.00 last year to this similar scam. The bank let these large withdrawals go and then took no responsibility or help. Why are we the citizens left all alone without any government help or assistance once this happens!!!

An acquaintance of mine from NY experienced this. He received a call from his bank supposedly regarding a fraud. He panicked and gave them all the information they needed. A number identified as his bank in the States called him, he was abroad. He lost all his savings. Last I heard, the bank refused to give him his money back because he had authorized the transaction.

Wiring online from individual accounts should have a limit say $500 per day unless done in person in a branch. I was authorized by our company to wire money to pay creditors but this is done with a physical bank fob key that authenticate the transaction for added security for large amounts. Similar large wire transactions in individual accounts are suspect & should be flagged & never be allowed to go through.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the scammers realized he’s lost his card; maybe they stole or skimmed it.

The banks number should be saved in your contacts so if you lose your card you can still call the bank. You can also sign into your account via the bank’s app and report your card lost. That automatically puts it on alert.

I just got a call yesterday from "my bank". They spoofed the number. Thankfully, I hung up on them. Used my known app, and called them through the known phone number. They confirmed that they didn't call me.

The bank didn’t send a statement with the code saying what the code was for? The scammers got him on the urgency. It’s how they get most victims.

I know a few of my bank tellers personally. I could even call them as a PERSON and talk to them about this. They know me. That helps but he gave good tips to help ourselves out.

This is why online banking sucks. You NEED a physical branch to conduct business, especially if you suspect fraud.

My bank card was hacked. I called the phone number on the back of my card. I never click on a link, ever, I call them, I dont let them call me. One thing I learned is how important it is to have a personal relationship with your banker. I went to the bank, and dealt with my banker who knows me for years, know my spending habits and he handled it personally on his end. I learned, that day, how important personally banking relationships are.

Agree!!! Sadly, things are changing and it’s not as personal as it once was. My dad is 94 and always complains about this very issue. He was so used to having a relationship established with his banker. I think they have been acquired by two different banks. It just isn’t the same. I’m starting to think perhaps I should close all of my online accounts. It really is frightening. 💔

Bank cards are never hacked. Someone simply got your card information during one of your transactions. It happens so quickly that you tend to forget where it could have possibly happened. Immediately reporting the card stolen and disputing unauthorized transactions usually solves the problem. Now if they gain access to your account number then you have a big problem on your hands. Don't ever have personal checks associated with your account.
