Y’all keep saying she needs to talk to her mother . But if she isn’t ready , she can’t force that .

The mum didn’t just leave him. She left them. A phone call once a week isn’t much. She didn’t visit. Write. Call every day. Try for custody. She comforted herself by saying it wasn’t her fault that she wasn’t around because the big bad ex wouldn’t let them talk on the phone once a week. For the dad to get custody means something big. Unless that is another excuse for her.

I've seen a lot of comments, raking her mother over the coals for what she did, but after watching this clip, I'm not going to automatically do that. My parents divorced when I was young and I lived with my mother. I had been told a lot of things by her about my father and believed her completely. It was only when I became an adult and was in a position to confirm what she told me to what actually happened that I realized she wasn't the blameless martyr she portrayed herself to be. I'm not saying she was the bad one in the relationship because both my parents did underhanded things during the divorce process and afterwards, but she did try to rewrite history... and I think she came to believe her version of it. I know that because when I tried to call her up on some of it, I honestly believe she didn't remember things that way because she had convinced herself otherwise. Andy has made her father the martyr in the relationship and her mother the villain. She doesn't want to hear anything different. When she heard her father admit that her mother did in fact call her every Sunday, like she said, and he wouldn't let her talk to her, it shook her because now she knows what she always believed wasn't the complete truth. That's why when she asked her mother why she left and when her mother started to say that her father was good to Andy, but she didn't know what it was like to be married to him, Andy interrupted her because the fact is, Andy really didn't want to know. She wanted to continue to believe everything was her mother's fault like she had believed since she was 12. Because if she found out otherwise, it would rock her entire foundation of her relationship with her father, which was central to her life. It would be like a priest losing his faith.

You just wrote my lifes story there... ive only just started speaking with my father after i ran away from home 2 years ago. It turns out he did try to get custody of me but the courts took her side. All my life i havent been able to talk to him because mum and bro made him out to be the villain and speaking to him would be an act of treachery. Hes not completely blameless but nor is he conpletely at fault. Ive hated him blindly for years but i dont know why anymore. You and I went through parental alienation. And thats the truth.

You have no idea how much relate to this I'm 15 now and I had no contact with my father since I was 5,never even knew what happened to him,I went to the embassy to try and find him and they couldnt I lived with my mom only for 8 out of those 9 years and she also blamed my dad for everything that ever happened, like you said a martyr but now I reconnected with my dad 2yrs ago and now I find that he isn't that devil she made him put to be,both my parents made mistakes. Anyway thank you for your story,it helps me knowing that people have a similar story to mine

Because what happened between her mom and her father had nothing to do with HER it was not an excuse as to why she left her daughter and didn’t do more to see her or talk to her. Calling every Sunday is pathetic. There are other days and other hours of the week. She could have found out what school she went to. She did the bare minimum and Andy was right.

JustinChristoph it’s not just a person. It’s her child. She should have never given up on her child. Her mother was weak minded and could not have possibly cared enough about Andie to just “give up” she didn’t try her hardest or her best to be in Andies life and that is why andie doesn’t want anything to do with her.

And the father isn’t for stopping her from contacting her and acting like she ran out of their lives just for not being married to him? She called and tried, his decision led to her not being in contact. He cut her out of his daughters life and made her look like the bad guy for it, lying to her, and she still takes his side

Her mom took the easy way out and she still didn't sound apologetic. Lots of couples with kids get divorced but they don't abandon their kids. If anything, they fight like hell to keep them. Not always for the right reasons, but still. Her ex was the perfect excuse she needed and I get where he was coming from, not letting them speak because she was a kid and it would've given her false hope.

Everyone is shitting on the mom, but her dad shouldn’t have let his feelings and relationship influence his daughters relationship with her mom. Regardless of cheating, not allowing a parent/child relationship is damaging to the child, it’s selfish, and it’s petty. If the mom was a criminal or a addict, I would understand the narrative of protecting a child, but that’s not this situation. That’s not to say her mom shouldn’t have tried harder or taken her ex to court, to get co parenting rights.

Dude you’re wrong. As much as flawed as the dad was, he did good. It takes someone to be in Andy’s shoes, that being me to see it was for the best. In my case it’s a deadbeat dad. She grew up a better person than her mom ever can be. The whole parents are parents logic is outdated. Kids deserve good parents, but not all parents deserve kids.

Sometimes the father does play the perfect card towards their children so that the children won't see when they are wrong and also how bad they are treating their mothers, because men always think they are right. Although it is vice versa. But most of time taking alot of shit from a long time.
