On 9 Feb 1964, the Beatles gave one of the most significant performances of their career - their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. It went down in history as a record-breaking TV spectacle and cemented their position as a legendary band in the USA. The marvellous Tessie O'Shea appeared on the same show and played her Gibson UB3 ukulele-banjo, which makes it one of the most famous instruments of its kind, having been seen by 73 million viewers on that first transmission alone.
