Have a meal in Mayberry! To out-of-towners this North Carolina diner is best known for its appearance on the Andy Griffith Show; locals love it for its to-die-for pork chop sandwich.
In addition to appearing in his show, Andy Griffith continued to reference the restaurant in his recording of the song, "Silhouettes," and talked of his visits there in interviews. He was especially fond of their hot dogs!

Charlie always cooked pork chops right in the front window. Thinking back, the raw chops were brought out to him immersed in batter from somewhere in back in big bowls. When cooked they went back there, so there must have been a kitchen to assemble sandwiches. They're tender with a crunch to the coating. The slaw and tomato really make it!

I visited Mt Airy about 10 years ago. What a beautiful town! The locals recommended eating at Snappy's. The original owner, who was quite old by then, was still working the kitchen. The pork chop is tender, and that breading in which they're fried just make it out of this world! I live in Orlando and still think about those pork chop sandwiches all these years later!

I was just there. Everyone was friendly and the pork chop sandwich was delicious. Just don’t eat it if your counting calories.

I use to go to the Snappy Lunch every Saturday morning with my Dad, Luke Collins when I was just a kid. Earned my first car by working at the Snappy Lunch. I still think of the times I spent there with family and friends. My uncle Jerry worked there for a very long time and I always felt like it was a part of my family's history. Best place to bring your family and friends to enjoy the simple pleasures in life.

Mayberry is not real, it only existed on the Hollywood back lot. However Andy Griffith would occasionally mention things from his hometown as part of Mayberry on the show. He did ask Barney 1 time if he wanted to go to the Snappy Lunch. Over the most of the episodes it was a generic sounding place called the Diner.

I've seen interviews with Andy Griffith where he said his only connection with Snappy Lunch was getting an occasional hot dog when he was a kid.

Radio station YLRB mt.pilot use to mention snappy lunch on the lenard blush hour.

The staff in the kitchen look and act like they are bothered with this interview, don't look too friendly to me.

Next time you go back to Mt. Airey, go by Prissy Polly's BBQ And tell us how it is. I heard about it by listening to it on WPAQ Bluegrass station there. A Curious BBQ Lover here in Maine.
