Andy's life and progression to champion is one of the great sport stories. And his style is unmatched; raw power, fierce and unrelenting aggression combined with grace and flow. To come up in the middle of Kelly's technical reign of dominance, and shred it is so radical, and it was that fire that forged him into the hero he became.

Specifically..the 2004 World Surfing Championships..there was absolutely NOBODY...that was close to Andy Irons. He was doing Aerials, floaters, EVERYTHING a surfer could do, and then some, during that time. He blew everyone away.. including Kelly. He was just destroyed, and admitted it. During the 2003 Championships, when it came down to the last event, at Oahu..North Shore (Irons home grounds), Slater said not only did he feel an unbelievable amount of pressure...he said Irons was just being a stud on his board, and caved into the pressure. Irons WAS the greatest Surfer of his time. He also ALWAYS had little bro Bruce pushing his abilities to the max too. The competition between those two, personal competition, was unreal!! Bruce is more a free surfer, and video maker. But...just like big bro Andy, and about ALL their buddies at the North Shore (Wolfpack..), they succumbed to brutal opioid Addiction. Stay away from that shit at ALL cost!! It WILL steal your Soul. I'm an Opioid Addiction Counselor, AND a Bail/Fugitive Recovery Agent, and I know all about it.. personally, and professionally. RIP Andy...By the way, Andy had the 2005 Championships STOLEN from his grasp. There was absolutely....no way..he deserved the 9.5 score he got on his last wave....He went up and down 4 times on the wave, and fell on the fifth. He shouldn't have gotten ANYTHING....over a 8.5 on that particular wave. If THAT high. Total bullshit. Slater said the same thing HIMSELF...That would have given Irons 4 Championships...in a row.
