I worked at eastern skateboard supply for ten years (96-2007). There was a series by girl that I always loved but rarely ever see. The fish series. Loved that series and we only received a limited run of those. Always loved everything girl and all their side companies put out.

I wish this was 3 hours long and endless talk on the graphics. Marvelous work.

BMX Action was a amazing magazine. Bob was a really really good photographer. That magazine was part of my youth and Andy's work was one of a kind

Funny that you pointed out the Jovontae name error on the board, because I noticed an error in Niels Bennett name on my Girl skateboard from the Swirl series "Neils Bennett" made by Andy Jenkins! Great interview!!

It’s increíble to hear about so many influential skateboard personalities and artist that were originally BMX bike rooted, before making and leaving their impression on skateboarding. I bought BMX Plus and Freestyler magazine religiously from the local drug store, even though I could never afford a bike . They didn’t sell skateboard magazines. My inability to afford a bike is the only reason I transitioned mentally and committed over into skateboarding, though I first stepped on a banana board laying in my neighbors yard way back in the late 70’s and I got my first board back in ‘84-‘85. I still have everyone of those magazine in my attic, while my biggest regret is giving away every Thrasher Magazine and almost every Transworld Magazine to the local thrift store, thinking some kid might get them and be inspired to pick up a skateboard someday that I had collected for the last 15-20 years. Still, skateboarding is only as good as the memories it leaves us with…and there were a lot of them. Thanks for making this piece; another eye opener.

I used to read BMX Plus! and BMX Action cover to cover back in the day even though I didn't own a BMX bike. When Freestylin' came out I was all in and finally got a Mongoose - with a coaster brake! - in hopes of slowly tricking it out for freestyling. That never happened, but I did start skating and when Club Homeboy/Homeboy Magazine/Loft zine came out it had a BIG subconscious impact on me that got me into journalism, graphic design, and thinking more about music. This interview was amazing to watch because I had no idea what Andy ended up doing after Dirt Magazine.

About 93 ish I went from reading BMX Plus and riding a GT Pro Series to reading Thrasher and riding a High Guy! I still have a pit bike I got in 1987 a 16" Diamond Back with mini Skyway mags and a special 3 piece crank, Robinson Laid back post, 20" bars. It's pretty sick been offered a lot of money for it.

The board graphic I think is the sickest is Mike Mo's "Spitfire Joker Girl", that Spitfire flamehead logo is so iconic, incorporating Deluxe and Girl together was always a rad thing.
