Andy Murray is an entomologist, writer and macro photographer, specialised in documenting the lives and incredible beauty of soil mesofauna. He is particularly fond of springtails and the reason why he became a macro photographer. His main goal is to make society understand, value and protect those little animals that live in soil. As he once said, “Enjoy and appreciate the small things in your life. They’re often more important than you realise”. The purpose of this video is to support new ways of looking at the creatures that live in soil, and to value the hidden beauty of these little animals. The video was presented during the opening session of the Global Symposium on Soil Biodiversity, on the 19th of April 2021. The symposium outcomes will provide evidence to support actions to protect soil biodiversity, and to promote its sustainable use and management by addressing the underlying causes of soil biodiversity loss and enhancing implementation of sustainable practices.
