Why? Why can't a player just continue to play if he likes it even though it's no longer at his former level. I only admire players like Raonic, Murray and Thiem that keep trying even though they can't quite get back to their 2016 levels. Wouldn't blame them for retiring but no shame in trying

A year ago, maybe 2 years ago Andy was testing a new racquet. Same makeup as the one he's used his entire career, but had a bigger head, so bigger sweet spot and much easier access to power (Essentially exactly what Federer did later on in his career too) Just this change alone, clearly showed a positive impact on both depth of shot and weight of shot while still allowing Murray to use those magic hands and court craft, he wasn't on the back foot anywhere near as often, which lead to some decent wins. In the end he went back to the racquet he knew and loved, fair enough =) But I can't help think what could have been if he'd stuck with the new one... As one of the biggest Andy Murray fans out there, I still love watching him play, but it's hard to watch sometimes.

I think you are mistaken. He played with that 99 for less than a month and it was at the very end of the 2021 season, he didn't even play any tournaments with it. Andy's problem is not his racquet. EDIT: Was mistaken, he played 4 tournaments with it and didn't have any breakout success with it, he went 9-6 with it.

@@Raven05R6 9-6 isn't too bad in a month... =/ Plus given a little more time who knows. I'm just saying it could have been a factor to aid the situation. Having had the pleasure of being able to hit with a PT57A there's a huge contrast in how much more difficult it is to use compared to my normal racquet. Mines a 98 and very much on the control spectrum (At least when I bought it it was) Even Andy himself said in an interview that his racquet is not the easiest to use. It pains me to say, but I think this is the end now, maybe a few years on the doubles tour, that'd be ace.

Andy doesn't play this bad. I don't think it's Andy as much as it is how slow the court is. It looks like a clay court without the high bounce. I wouldn't feel too bad if I were Andy, it's hard to hit winners when the court doesn't allow you to pace your shots accordingly. Move onto the next tournie Andy, the court will be faster.

Well..well..A great player...i feel upset with him... because whats the pointing out Novak as an example...Novak is too dedicated and simply eats .dreams and sleeps Tennis...his goals are set so high and he just follows them through ..Andy should have kept up that level...24x7 ...but after he won Winbledons and US open and Olympics.. he was knighted...and Britian had a hero...He lost sight and. Didnt play smart...partly due to his injury...which again is his Medical and coaching staff ..Its quite sad to see his decline...He just loves the game...but i think with the type of players coming off the blocks now...there is no chance to get to his old level. Except maybe the odd match or two. Time he leaves the game at the Wimbledon as a last Hurrah...He can in the meanwhile train and look after his body and give it the last shot...He will also have to see ...how Roger quit. Nadal with such a amazing record ..and physical endurance is finding it tough...Novak has regimenented himself and just fine tunning himself nowadays ...just great conditioning technique...No past or present greats ..can match his training on and offield methods....smooth as a machine..except the odd wrist ...niggle etc ..I think he stays away from a lot of habits. Drink .smokes . parties..and sleeps ..diet food ..other exercises...thats why he is still No 1...

Djoko has changed it a bit as hes gotten older. He's had to to keep up. Hes shortened most of his rallies to like 5 shots.

For the most part, Novak stopped playing “like Murray” in 2011. Novak beat Murray almost every time they played for a reason. (Most of Murray’s wins over Novak, the few that there were, happened after Novak beat Delpo in 5 set classic at Wimbledon for example). Novak has incredible offense the last five years in particular. One of the reasons he still has two good hips.
