@ericdavidheredia Cool. In Chi too. Used Flatiron School online after rigorous liberal arts degree. Being analytical and methodical so programming was a fit. Many many bumps in learning curriculum. Hard stuff AND fun.

whew you're timing is perfect. I just finished my Javascript course and as I'm looking at these job descriptions, i'm feeling like I still don't know enough and nearly jumped into the next coding language. So instead, I'll get to building my JS portfolio projects! I'm curious to where the standard is now though with the tech layoffs then rehires. Do you think entry level developers need to know even more things at base level since?

How did you manage to finish that massive textbook (700 pages) in 1 month as a complete beginner to programming ? That's really an impressive feat. I mean, considering you must have taken notes, re-read difficult parts, spent time doing exercises, etc.

Yes! It’s not outdated. The idea is to learn the fundamentals which it does perfectly. The updated aspects of JavaScript you’ll be able to pick up along the way.

@user-rn7qt2su7o. Look, you’re never too old to do anything. Well, if you were 80 yrs old maybe you’d have dementia and that’d make it hard to concentrate and to become a programmer 🤣. I hate when people ask if at age X can they do some career. Do it man! You can do it. After Ubering get on your computer and crank it out for 2 hrs/night. Ty for the video!! Would you advise Harvards free CS50 (intro to computer science) course ??? Also any advice for when you're trying to solve a problem, yet you have no ideas how/// brain is blank....

@ferfykins. 1)The Harvard CS50 is free so who WOULDN’T do it? My friend is studying undergraduate Computer Science. He ‘s ambitious and in last yr & took course- about 3.5 months while doing his own university classes. Said it was thorough and grueling. Try Stack Overflow. It’s a q&a for programmers. When I got stuck and after hours of trying to figure it out on my own, that’s where I went. Some high level pros get snarky so have a thick skin. Good luck.

I did the lessons and assignments (except the final project), it is a good introduction. The book 'computer science distilled' is a nice introduction as well. Understanding a bit about binary and the mechanics of computers is useful, if albeit not practical for say web development.

Just wondering, How many hours were you putting in per day while you were working? And after you quit your job, Did you just code every day for 8 months straight?... How did you pay your bills ??😅

Say depends on how fast you learn and type! It's a must typing fast which helps your productivity. You can know it all but if you type slow it's worthless. Some that types fast can literally keep up with some that can't type fast

You say you started with JavaScript but from what I can tell, JS should be learned after HTML & CSS. Did you already have that knowledge or did you skip that? If you skipped it, how useful was the language without the other two?

Tbh I have a bit of computer science experience from higschool courses. And started just 2 weeks and I think html/css is fairly easy. I do learn extremely fast for example I was working at 3m as a machine operator their training which is 6 months took me 2 weeks lmao . I can type fast 72wmp which helps a ton in this field I am very excited wish I started earlier now I'm 31 but hope to move on to Javascript next already made 4 websites in my 2 weeks lol .

It was a grind for sure. It was extremely slow going and I wasn't exaggerating when I said I spent ALL of my free time on it (after quitting my job).

Beter late than never, started with my 2023 NY resolution: Learning #Processing and #p5js. Found this nice YT channel from @AlgorithmicArt to get going Not for the sake of a job, but keep my mind busy and create nice things I can plot out on my soon to have AxiDraw A4 plotter.
