When I was given Anesthesia I felt like a drinking water with full force is moving from my hand to my head. I felt so so sleepy within 30 seconds. It was a feeling like when you are so tired and close eyes and immediately sleep.

I got all 4 wisdom teeth out today. I was put to sleep and I remember tasting the anesthesia in my mouth like a sour taste. Then everything was spinning so blurry... after that I woke up in the recovery room. Didn’t feel anything, didn’t hear anything nothing. Its crazy and it feels like time didn’t pass. Once you know it you’re just waking up it’s pretty fascinating in a way.

i think e main reason that team work fails in many health care institution is the ego of the health care professionals and the lack of respect to each and everyone's capacity. At the end of the day, what matters is that we make a huge difference in people's lives. I hope everyone working in this field realizes that we are here to help each other and place our patients in the centre rather than ourselves.

My first operation (tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy combined), I had the cannula etc. For my second and third operations (toenail and teeth), I had the mask. Also had topical anaesthetic (mole on my ear that I wanted to have removed). They were all years ago, but now I'm Anaemic, so any future surgery for me would have to have that taken into consideration.

I had plates & screws put in my ankle yesterday, & the damn nurses tricked me! lol they knew I had bad anxiety so when they put the mask on me I said what is that? And they said don’t worry it’s just oxygen, & told me to take deep breaths, not long after my head felt heavy & pressurized & I felt dizzy, then I was out of it, I felt panicky at first when my head felt heavy but I didint panic for long cause just a few seconds later I was out of it, I never felt or seen or heard anything during the procedure, then I woke up in the recovery room, it’s so strange when your asleep, it feels like the surgery was only 1 minute, I woke up a tad confused & nauseous, but other then that I was good, so please don’t worry your self out like I did if you are about to get general anaesthesia, it’s a piece of cake & you’ll be fine, just relax & try not to stress ❤️❤️❤️ & let the doctors know if you are really scared or panicky, they might give you a Ativan (anxiety pill) to help calm you down. 😄❤️

The best available technology to prevent both over medication, the norm, or under medication, the extremely rare experience, is a BRIAN MONITOR. Know that you want to have one if going under anesthesia for major surgery. Major surgery, not a 5 minute cataract or 20 minute colonoscopy.

Why consent to less qualified "anesthesia care providers" suchas CRNA, AA and other "helpers"? Most insurances par for anesthesiologist-only care (not one anesthesiologist managing 4 crna/nurses)..if you want to be safe insist on ansthesiologist=only care.. you have to insist and write on the consent" "I'm consenting to anesthesiologist-only care and I refuse CRNA services" I have had many surgeries and this works..all docs insist on anesthesiologist-only care..consent to crna to risk your life

You sure as hell are talking very highly of yourself for a person studying to become a CRNA. Your not even one yet and are talking about yourself like your better than a doctor. If they don't give me a doctor to do the anaesthesia for my surgery next week then I'm not going where it's scheduled just because this ladies delusions of grandeur about being a nurse who thinks they're better schooled than a doctor. All nurses are like that though
@biggseye
@biggseye 8 жыл бұрын
+fockyoumang actually, in a major hospital set up you are more likely to be looked after a CRNA during surgery than an Anesthesiologist. In some it is 1 Anesthesiologist to every 5 to 7 operations. He or she is not able to cover all patients all the time. They rely on the CRNA. It is a poor Anesthesiologist that looks down on the CRNA for they make surgery possible in many ways.

Great video for the layman to understand the role of an anesthetic provider. Although, I wanted to clear something up that came across a little confusing. CRNAs don't "assist" an anesthesiologist in delivering his anesthesia. We are independent practitioners who are trained, educated and licensed to do everything an anesthesiologist does and in fact, can practice autonomously in CRNA only anesthesia practices if we choose. As a student in a Doctorate CRNA program, I'm happy to educate anyone who is confused about this. CRNAs are the main anesthesia providers in 70% of hospitals in rural America. Google it to easily find multiple research confirmations of that. Let's continue to work together, the AANA and the ASA to better serve our patients today and into the future. So take that bar of soap and wash that word "assist" out of your vocabulary and replace it with colleague/partner and we'll all get along much better. It's not the 1940's, women can have careers now, African Americans can ride on any bus they want and CRNAs are educated, trained, excellent independent practitioners.

My anesthesiologist didn't tell me when he was giving me drugs to start making me relax; he said, "I'm just checking your IV to see what they're giving you", but when he walked away I started getting really sleepy. Is this common practice? Why wouldn't he just come out and tell me he was giving me drugs?

@erin832001
@erin832001 8 жыл бұрын
Oh trust me, you aren't able to panic once the drugs hit your system! I've discovered though, through many experiences with anesthesia, that anesthesiologists don't like to tell you when they're putting you under. I don't know why, but they always do it off to the side where you can't see them, and if they can't stand out of your line of vision, they turn their backs to block the injection. The only thing I can think that makes a *little* bit of sense is that they don't want you to know what they're giving you, in case you try to find some on your own. Who really knows, though?
@rachelreid8621
@rachelreid8621 8 жыл бұрын
+erin832001 I don't know if it was panic but I felt ok and then I had funny sensation like the start of a panic attack. My heart started racing and I said I didn't like that feeling. They kept telling me to relax and then it passed quickly. since then the thought of anesthesia scares the crap outta me.

Anesthesiologist = very long time to get trained, very expensive, too few to meet the demand CRNA= shorter time, cheaper, able to satisfy the demand, BUT they are still qualified to do the same job. Of course Anesthesiologist have more experience, who can doubt that, that's why they get a hefty pay and manage and head the anesthesia staff in many settings. But they can't solve the high demand through out the country. That's why we need a lot of CRNA's who are able to extend themselves as far as the rural areas, who can't afford to get an anesthesiologist otherwise. So where is the contention coming from? Anesthesiologist don't need to look down on CRNA's, as if they are not qualified enough to do the job, if they weren't they wouldn't have been authorized to do it. And CRNA's, you don't have to argue with an anesthesiologist to make yourself feel good. An anesthesiologist's opinion about you won't change the fact that you are administering anesthesia on your own, and let this fact sink in to the many doubting you in your profession. If someone is belittling someone who works in the same capacity as he is, it's because he feels threatened, and if someone always has to defend himself for something that's factual, then he must be feeling insecure. This is a humble opinion from someone who is planning to pursue anesthesia. cheers,

dubo la, I worked in surgery for 16 years as a nurse. I also scrubbed and assisted. I have had the privilege of working with some top-notch CRNAs. The MDAs are only in that room for the induction, sometimes even then. Of course, that was their role at my hospital. 2 MDAs would be staffed to meet with preops and supervise the the CRNAS. This system worked well. I have had surgery there, my children, my parents, my husband and there was never a doubt that we were in excellent hands.

It's hilarious to me that we would compare a CRNA to a trained Anesthesiologist. I really don't care how many states were reckless enough to allow nurses to practice any kind of medicine alone - you can't compare 8 years of school + 4 years residency to being a nurse with an additional 2 years of school with a little experience. I would never in my life resort to being cared for solely by a nurse, ever. There is a reason why doctors aren't nurses and nurses aren't doctors. This is just further proof that America's health system is in the shitter.

Wow, all rainbows, puppy dogs and unicorns! How about long term cognitive effects, especially for those of us over 60 years old? Why does general anesthesia have to be used as often as it is? I severely cut my left arm nearly 20 years ago and adamantly refused general anesthesia at the famous Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, for the surgeries required to repair the damage. Only Versed was used, thus no tube jammed down my throat and no paralytic drugs. It is just "amazing" that everything went well without general anesthesia!

@@talling No, there are plenty of resources, and you don't have to be doctor to understand them. What got me into doing research on anesthesia was the "its all rainbows, puppy dogs and unicorns," put out by the medical industry. Yes, anesthesia is often necessary, but paralytics may well not be necessary for many surgeries. Serious Brain damage and death are not common. More subtle and long lasting effects on the brain may not be so rare, especially for those of us 60+ years old.

NOT accurate. Im in a doctorate program to be a CRNA, its incredibly extensive in training and education. it takes over 7 years of education to become a CRNA. CRNAs are competent, & CRNA programs are more competitive than medical school because of how few there are and how few they accept. Insurance does not care about which provider performs anesthesia - because both are competent. AAs are not allowed to bill insurance or perform independently. CRNAs can practice independently -very safe
