I have to admit I find all these behind the scenes, hidden secrets, juicy tell-all stories very interesting and addictive. However, I do often wish I could go back to my "Santa Claus" view of these old TV shows from my youth! 😪😪😪😪 I would much rather hang out with Sheriff Andy Taylor and Deputy Barney Fife than Andy Griffith and Don Knotts. And the same could be said of most other old TV shows.

Reportedly, he was married to his first wife when he proposed to Aneta. But she didn't want to marry anyone, she loved her freedom and didn't want to give it up. I'm glad she was honest with herself and others about what she really wanted in life.

I shouldn’t be surprised. There are errors in the vast majority of your videos. Inaccuracies: 1. The Helen Crump character was not designed to be a love interest for Andy Taylor. The character was only supposed to be in one episode Andy Discovers America. The producers or whoever were impressed with her acting talent and Andy Griffith was just plain impressed with her. Andy stated that Aneta Corsaut was to remain on the show until it ended. And she did. 2. This inaccuracy is HUGE. I don’t know which Andy Griffith Show you’ve been watching but it’s not the same as the one I watch. The characters Helen Crump and Andy Taylor got married in the first episode of the spin off Mayberry RFD not during The Andy Griffith Show. They didn’t “navigate married life in Mayberry”. After they married, they moved away from Mayberry. There were 0 episodes of The Andy Griffith Show where they were married. Zero. None. There were 2 episodes of the spin off Mayberry RFD where they were married. The very first episode which was about their wedding and the first episode of season 2 where they return to Mayberry for a visit and to have their baby baptized. 3. The affair continued until she passed away in 1995. Andy Griffith didn’t “go back to his wife”. He never left any of his 3 wives for her. He had marriages and the affair simultaneously. If you’re going to do a video about something you should make sure that you have the facts straight before you make a video with all sorts of mistakes in it.

If you want to get the FACTS for Facts Verse, you may want to actually do your research. Andy and Helen were NEVER shown as a married couple on the show beyond the episode where the characters married on the first episode of MAYBERRY RFD, NOT The Andy Griffith Show! Smh So many errors in your posts. That's why I rarely view, but took a chance this time because I am a big AGS fan. Should've scrolled on by.

I read that Andy, and his wife was in a unhappy marriage plus the wife was an alcoholic, and they eventually separated. The wife filed for divorce and remarried her next husband within 2 years. I never heard that after his affair with Aneta Corsaut that Andy went back to his first wife. The wife had already married someone else. Aneta refused Andy's marriage proposal because she valued her freedom and independence which I can understand. Marriage can many times be miserable, and many couples just tolerated each until death. I am happily divorced and plan on staying this way.

She refused to marry him in real life. Andy and Aneta carried on a real life affair for 30ish years from the time she joined the show in 1963 until her death in 1995. He asked her to marry him a few times and she always said no. I’ve heard that she wanted to keep her independence. Also she didn’t want to be known as “the other woman that Andy left his wife for”. Instead she was “the other woman that Andy cheated on his wives with”. This is purely speculation on my part but I think she didn’t want to marry him because she knew he was a womanizer (if he’ll cheat with you he’ll cheat on you), he had a drinking problem, and a violent temper with a short fuse. I think she wanted to keep it as an affair so that she didn’t have to live with him and deal with his shortcomings all the time. As long as they weren’t married they had separate homes. If they had an argument or if she wasn’t happy with his behavior she could send him to his home and she could go to her home until they were ready to see each other again. When you live in the same house you can’t get that kind of separation.

@@cmm2145 This is exactly why I'm proud to call myself a confirmed bachelor. I'm 58 years old, and have never been married, because I, too, want to keep my freedom and independence. No woman has a say in what I do with my money; if I want to do something, I don't have to clear it with someone else. I don't have to worry about getting divorced or cheated on, so no woman can clean me out in the event of a divorce. If you think weddings are expensive, try getting divorced. You'll make some attorney happy. If people would stay away from relationships, they wouldn't have that problem.

@@KevinMiller-xn5vu - That arrangement works for some people. My personal opinion about Aneta Corsaut turning down Andy Griffith’s marriage proposals is, for one thing, exactly what she said. She didn’t want to give up her independence. She wanted to be able to make her own decisions without having to take someone else into account. Also, she didn’t want to be seen as the other woman homewrecker that broke up Andy’s marriage. Those are valid reasons not to get married. Also, Andy Griffith had some serious issues with drinking and with his violent temper. He also was a womanizer. He was cheating on his wife with Aneta and my guess is he was also seeing other women. As long as they weren’t married she was free to step out on him. And she didn’t have to put up with his shortcomings. If she got fed up, she had her house and he had his house and they were separate. So they could stay away from each other until things settled down. Besides, because he was a womanizer if he had married her, he would’ve been cheating on her. She probably didn’t want to put herself into that situation.
