December 25, 2017 @ SM Bacoor Cinema 6: The Revenger Squad Cinema 1: Ang Larawan To be fair, hindi ako nagsising nanood ako ng Ang Larawan. Kung ito ang magiging panlaban natin sa Oscars eh hindi ako tatanggi.

Watched this in an unrecalled Filipino film festival in San Francisco just last month. I wish I could watch it again if only to re-experience the feel of how pleasantly good the manners and etiquette were at that time. Our kababayans should not fail to see this. Filipino artistry at its best captured in a movie-musical comes few and far between - and should be patronized. It's not an elitist film. It may not draw huge returns at the box office basing on the other movies it will be up against, and I damn hope to be wrong on this, but it's something you can at least be proud to be spending your money on to hopefully encourage having more movies like this especially for the younger generation's appreciation of our history and culture.

This looks promising. A frontrunner for MMFF17's best picture. But in terms of box office sales, sadly, baka langawin dahil sa mga generic mainstream films.

Must watch movie tlga. Ung mga kanta ay sobrang gaganda at nakaka-goosebumps. It'll really play with your emotions, but in a good way that you'll appreciate. At ung mga actors ay tlgang sobrang gagaling. These two elements make the movie worthwhile to watch. Plus the messages it tells the audience are very captivating.

Sa tatlong bigating artists na nag-collaborate para sa musical na "Larawan" kung saan in-adapt ang pelikulang ito, si Ryan Cayabyab ang pinaka kilala ng nakararami. Yung dalawang National Artists, si Nick Joaquin at si Roland Tinio, wala halos nakakaalala, nakakakilala o may alam kung ano ang mga sinulat. 3. Walang makaka-appreciate na si Direk Loy Arcenas ay isang producer, set designer, at director ng mga palabas sa Broadway. Actually, malamang wala rin masyadong nakakakilala sa kanya. 4. Di ako against sa pelikula kasi maganda siya at bago sa mata ng mga tao. Pero I dont see the reason why, bakit sinasabi ng mga tao na "Dapat ito ang suportahan ng mga Pilipino, kasi dekalidad at hindi mainstream na puro kabaduyan." Tas sabay lagay pa ng "suportahan ang Pelikulang Pilipino". In the first place, yung mga mainstream naman na pinalabas sa MMFF ay lahat Pelikulang Pilipino. Instead of supporting all mainstream and non-mainstream local movies, dina drag niyo pababa ang ibang mga local na pelikula. Hindi yung dahil mas pinipilahan yung pelikulang ito, kasi mainstream, mamimintas na kaagad sa mga viewers kung bakit sila manonood ng ganun. Lahat ay may kaniya kaniyang rason kung bakit nila gustong panoorin ang ganiyang partikular na pelikula, may kaniya kaniyang interest ang mga tao (consider also yung mga bata na hindi pa bihasa sa pag aanalyze ng mga mabibigat na eksena) in terms of moral lessons, may maituturo rin naman ang mga mainstream movies sa mga manonood eh. At isa pa, against rin ako sa pagpapatanggal ng ang Ang Larawan at Siargao sa mga sinehan kasi sayang rin ang pinaghirapan ng mga producers, at ang ganda nito. Doon dapat ituon ang issue, ang pagpapabalik sa mga dekalidad na pelikula ng hindi namimintas at hinihila pababa ang mga mainstream na pelikula. Ang totoong sumusuporta ng mga Pelikulang Pilipino, ay sinusuportahan lahat ng pelikula. Maraming awards man o wala. Maraming pila man o wala.

I got goosebumps when their start singing.

Promising! One sidenote though, parang mas applicable yung term na 'nais' instead of 'gusto' in some of the dialogues.

Actually, most of the actors in the film have played in the original musical on stage back in 1997.. So it's really great that in itself..

As expected - many moviegoers were snubbed this masterpiece and choose those garbage mainstream films. But since it won Best Picture award and having a word of mouth, Ang Larawan was given a second chance and hopefully it will be chosen as Philippines' contender for Oscar's Best Foreign Film.
