The Wish: What if Buffy never came to Sunnydale? Birthday: What if Cordelia never met Angel in LA? Both leads to much darker paths (and much whinier Angels ;) )

What's great is that Cordelia hasn't really changed from what she's always been. She's just grown. She's still Cordelia, just better. That's what's so good about Buffy and Angel. Characters grow. They don't change. Cordy!

You hit on exactly why I love the relationship between Angel and Cordelia so much: they make each other better. Cordelia brings the best out of Angel, and he brings the best out of her.

Cordelia's character development is one of my favorite things about Angel. So many characters get to shine on this show in ways they never could have on Buffy, Including Angel himself. I love that she is willing to sacrifice for her family. 💕 Great stuff here.

Since we only see the visions transfer during a kiss, I always wondered if Doyle kissed Angel in Hero.

I was wondering if Liam would notice that Fred and Lorne wasn't around in this alternate life. Fred would most likely be still stuck in Pylea and Lorne either still had his lounge or was killed by Gun's gang while helping Wesley and Angel.

So glad you finally made it to this episode! One of my favorites in Angel. I love Cordys arc in the buffyverse and this one is so integral to that arc for me. The fact that _Cordelia Chase_ is lying on her deathbed and her top priority is to keep giving them clues so they can save an innocent from her vision... our girl's come so far.

Oh season 3! My favorite! Love this episode! It really highlights how far Cordelia has come as a character. Even on the brink of death, her number 1 worry was saving the girl from her vision. As for Angel going insane after getting the visions, I remember an interview with David Greenwalt where he said Angel didn’t lose his mind because of the visions, he lost his mind because he didn’t have Cordy there when Doyle died. She was his only remaining human connection. Without her, he slipped into insanity. It goes to show just how lost Angel was in season 1. He literally had no one. Doyle and Cordelia helped pull him out of that darkness. They gave him that human connection, a purpose, a reason to live. In a sense, they all gave each other the one thing none of them really had, a family. Shucks, now I’m tearing up just thinking about it. Oh, how I love this show! Everyone’s so happy in season 3! I love it!!! 🥰🥰

This is legit my favorite episode of Angel and the episode I've watched the most. This is the moment I waited for from day one of your reactions, my "you'll see" moment. I just wish the Scoobies could see her now, y'know? Aaand my Cangel feels!!! My shipper heart is full of joy.

Cordy! The Sitcom ❤ Happy 21st Birthday Cordelia Chase 🎉🎁🥰 Dennis is just the bestest ghost roommate a girl could ever have! 😊 And there's the rub the visions were always going to lead to a terrible ending. Thanks, Skip! 🤨 The moment between Cordelia and crazy Angel in the alternate world is one of my favourite scenes from the entire series. She takes the visions back and gets an extra bit of demon juice, to get back to helping Angel Investigations.

Really cool episode. Not as tragic as Turn Left on Doctor Who or even Cordy’s wish, but definitely interesting to see the alternative world. The writing was still on the world because they didn’t turn back time. They just changed the present. Because the paranoia demon was gone the hotel was habitable and they just wallpapered over the writing when reality was rewritten.

Ah, yes, the growth of one Miss Cordelia Chase. Easily one of the most surprising and fascinating character arcs in the Buffyverse. It is truly wonderful to see how far she has come, to be reminded of who she was before, and to see where she is now. As I have said before, one of the things this fictional universe does is build on what's come before. Joss and company know how to utilize the past of these characters and this world. It's incredibly satisfying and enthralling to see such a vision of a show and such understanding of continuity. One of many reasons why these two shows hold up so well and are still beloved.

You're one of the most insightful reactor's around. I love this episode, it's one of my favorites and most rewatched. I love alternate universe or alternate timeline episodes of shows in general. One thought I can't shake lately is the idea of if Cordelia fully died here, and didn't accept the transformation or the alternate reality. If she went out heroically accepting her own sacrifice, like Doyle. The character arc from her debut in the Buffy pilot to here would be perfection. I love Cordy, so I hate the thought of her being gone, but imagine the emotional catharsis.

The Wesley arm thing is a cool little nod to Green Arrow in Frank Miller's the Dark Knight Returns. Basically Superman tore off Oliver Queen's arm. I like the whole reference to another famous alt history story. Side note: Cordelia Chase is hero ❤️😭 I imagine her acting success comes from her charm and finding the right project - a sitcom where she gets to do improv.

Feels like having the episodes lullaby, dad, birthday in succession makes the exact episode where the baby is born kinda hard to guess. Seems somewhat deliberate. Cordy and Angel has a lot more in common now. Its interesting that in the wish, cordy makes a wish and its all taken back, but Anya loses her demon half. This time its taken back, but Cordy becomes half demon. A birthday indeed.

I absolutely look forward to watching your Buffyverse commentaries. You have so much empathy for these characters and honestly, it's truly enjoyable to see it on screen, because that's me every time I rewatch it. Plus, any mention of Doyle makes me tear up, so we're on the same boat here. Keep up the good work!

Birthday makes it official, Xander is a demon magnet.

Just realized after about 23 years that Buffy and Cordelia's birthday's are roughly the same time. I love the looks on people's faces as they react to famous Cordelia going about the town as if it's no big deal for someone who is of her caliber of popularity to be doing the things she's doing whereas she is just acting like its no big deal even with no memories of her time with Angel and company. I just wish more of those had been in the video. I cannot think if there is a fan theory out there or not that explains how the address is still written on the wall.

10:40 You can see Charisma's back tattoo that Cordelia doesn't have! Loads of the drama, particularly in Buffy, seems to be things seen/heard out of context and misinterpreted. There is a Buffy reviewer (Domi e) who had seen later Angel and knew what a wonderful person Cordelia had become and so still liked her even in Buffy season 1 when you are supposed to hate her.

Hi Liam... So you think Angel loves Cordelia. Ok... then I will just drop a little thought : Before being a Slayer, Buffy was kinda like S1 Cordelia (maybe a little less bitchy), but being given supernatural powers forced her to mature much faster than she should have, especially as it comes at the same time of a family crisis (her parents divorce). Now, Cordelia, who was... what she was, then go through a family crisis (tax fraud) that forces her to mature even a little bit, and then was given supernatural powers that makes her matures even more. So my question is... can we see here that Angel is definitely attracted to a certain type of girls ? (Hell ! I wonder if that parallel could even apply to Drusilla, even if in that case, it was Angelus and not Angel that was attracted to her)

As someone who's a Doyle/Cordelia, Angel/Doyle, Angel/Cordelia, Angel/Doyle/Cordelia shipper, this episode is such a treat!

I think, with this episode, we have the confirmation that the PTB, although they are on the good side, are clearly manipulative af. The whole thing was a test for Cordy to see if she'd be ready to give up anything (including a part of her humanity) to continue to help people. Skip only shows to Cordy the part of Angel's speech to convince her to accept the deal but : - The message is still written on the Hyperion wall. - Cordy has a feeling to go there without any reason. - I don't think Doyle was in love with Angel and they make it clear the reason the visions pass from Doyle to Cordy was because he loved her. So no reason for Angel to have the visions. - Why is the Hyperion open? The fact that Cordy is famous and didn't cross path with Angel has nothing to do with that... For me, it is a test. It's great Cordy made it but it is very twisted for supposed "superior beings". SPOILERS BELOW SO DON'T READ IT LIAM!!!! On rewatches, it makes more sense since we learn who Skip really is and why it is important for Jasmine that Cordy become part-demon. So I think the PTB have nothing to do with what happened to Cordy in this episode. Their philosophy is to watch but not to intervene and I'm not sure that is really so wise. Our heroes are completely alone in this fight.

Birthday is one of my favorite episodes (if not my favorite) because I love Cordelia! Birthdays are never a good sign on these shows ... Conner could be crying. Good point! he wasn't crying all this episode. A drop dead Fred? LOL at you shipping "Cangel" It's not stupid that Cordelia got another What If episode. I never picked that up in all these years. It's kinda funny that Angel broke so quickly considering he's been to hell. I always loved Cordelia because I watched the movie first so she was so much loser to the Buffy I knew. Cordelia is a bitch, but that's not a bad thing. Her saying she's not ready is an echo of Buffy she was just a kid. :( You're half way through. Good luck.

These aren't spoilers since it's how I felt while watching s3. How is it not obvious to the majority of the fandom that she's being tricked by Skip? I was so annoyed because it can't be more blatant the alt world is fake. It plays on her vanity, wanting to be the one everyone has to turn to is what got her in a coma to begin with since she chose not to let them transfer the visions to someone who could physically handle them (Lorne was an Empath Precog who ran a club where hundreds of paranormals patron so could've read them to find a good candidate), she'd rather die than give up power. The birthday world was the complete opposite of the humble realizations of It's A Wonderful Life. We're supposed to believe Angel can survive having 145 years worth of memories of a rapist serial killer & 100 years trapped in Hell but goes insane after 2 years with visions? That the PTB would send Whistler down to Earth to put Angel on his path then send Doyle but were okay with him huddled in a corner for 2 years? That Wesley never tried contacting the Scooby Gang (his Slayer ex, a 1100 yr old former demon, a Watcher, 2 witches, etc)?

Yea but the next seasion sucks...but it redeems itself in seasion 5.
