I think Yui's voice is too "girly" and a bit too "warm" for lack of better words. Iwasawa has an air of coolness to her version.

the band's a real band, the voice for Yui was actually one of the singers for the band

Yui only has one very short performance in the Anime and she sung the GirlDeMo version of "My soul, your beats" as the Episode 4 opening. Sadly after Iwasawa left they didn't focus that much on the band anymore.
