@@dmoney6966 I did the same towards my sister. I treated them badly for taking interest in what I love. How pathetic I was. I wish I was there with them. Show and be a mentor. this song is about him moving to LA so he can be depressed and do his drugs in a place where no one will judge you for that . he wants to live somewhere that doesn't look down on a lowly performer struggling along in life strung out on heroin . finely fitting in with s group of people in the same boat as him he feels safe even though he's a mess ..
@LysGyngell4 жыл бұрын
I think there's a bit more to it than that...its more about giving in to the industry, selling out to survive. It didn't sit well with Elliott tho, hence evil Angeles. Once he was signed to Dreamworks he became very, very paranoid. LA is a very bad place for sensitive, enlightened souls. Its the difference between illumination and enlightenment. When something is illuminated it is lit up from without, but when something is enlightened it is lit up from within, its an internal rather than an external light. Elliott was lit from within, he and LA were a terrible mix.

Some of the greatest songs have been written by troubled, drug addicted people. That is until the addiction took over to the point of not being able to function anymore or they got "clean" but never quite managed to spark that special creativity again. The drug induced change in the perception of the world which seems to be a catalyst for such hauntingly beautiful albeit sad songs. Another similar example would be the Smashing Pumpkins. Either way, don't try drugs kids. You can't miss things you've never experienced in the first place and self medication is not the right way to heal your traumatic experiences and/or mental illness.

This song is pretty much referring to Los Angeles and the bad force of selling yourself out entirely to the industry and Angeles in the song is kind of like the devil telling you lies and fake promises "I can make you satisfied in everything you do.." him promising to take care of u, "no ones gonna fool around with us" - it's a destructive muse. It is a force always trailing some new kill. Someone new to hypnotize in their world with promises of fame and money - selling your soul, losing yourself.. etc. So glad to meet you Angeles is sung with strong sarcasm because Elliott is over it. The first part of the song is kind of like Elliot's point of view and from minute 2:05 and on it's kind of like Angeles's/Industry pov speaking

I'm sure this song is intended to be about poisonous relationship but I feel more like its about a personification of Evil named Angeles always tempting the writer and being involved in a cat and mouse game with each other. "So glad to meet you; Angeles." *Bows* I mean even the name Angeles basically says "Angel Less" meaning the opposite.

Pretty sure it's about moving to LA to pursue their dreams but are baited by people using their innocence of the industry to profit off them or at least try. Basically gambling their lives.
@Ohfukmoment7 жыл бұрын
It's about a card counter. You know, one of those people that goes into casinos and tries to cheat the system by tallying up all the cards already on the board? One of those dudes. Read the lyrics, you'll see what I'm talking about.
@liliths_gf30757 жыл бұрын
I took it to be a love song? To me, when he says "Did you add up all the cards left to play to zero and sign up with evil, Angeles?" he's saying 'did you see no one else better and decide to gamble on me?' And then when he says "I can make you satisfied in everything you do. All your secret wishes could right now be coming true, and be forever with my poison arms around you", he's saying that he can make the other person happy and be what they need if only they'd make the gamble and be with him, even though he's "poison". I don't know. I'm probably completely off, but that's what I think when I hear the song.
@saitama37957 жыл бұрын
I'd read that it was about the 'talent scouts' in Los Angeles who were trying to basically take advantage of him and use his music for profit. I think that makes more sense than it being a love song or card counting, but I suppose that you can interpret it however you want independently of how the artist originally intended. I think that Elliot's original intended meaning is more unique than another love song. The card counting could be metaphorical and still fit in with the whole 'opportunistic parasitic suits ballad'...
@Ohfukmoment7 жыл бұрын
Cowboy Dan That's definitely right. The gambling imagery was only a motif. It seems as though E. S. made that comparison between talent scouts and cheating gamblers very deliberately. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what he was getting at. It could be a nod to the dodgy nature of performing for a living. Everyone is trying to win, playing by the rules, and all of a sudden, somebody comes along and tells you that they can beat the game for you, that they're above the rules. That, "all your secret wishes could right now be coming true."
