Here’s a story my great-uncle told me about when he served in WWII, I hope it brights your day. Now, he was a very cocky man. In fact, when he was drafted, he took a picture of himself and handed to women in the area. He was quite a flirt and it didn’t help that he was the towns most wanted man. Many women were convinced when he came back, that he would be theirs. But, however, that was not the case. When he was wounded, he was treated by a beautiful nurse. He didn’t remember her name as he told me while he was in his 80’s, but he said it was beautifully elegant. He gave her compliments and flirted with her the entire time. He intended to be with her when the war was over, but she had promised herself to another man. He was terribly sad, but he had faith he would find the right woman eventually. Then, he revived news that he had died during battle. Although he was sad for him, he was more glad that he was gone. They married shortly after as they were in love. But, she fell ill and died 6 years later. He never had any children, didn’t marry again, and never moved because he missed her so much. He died many years ago, but he was a funny man. He talked of her a lot.

Reminds me of Band of Brothers for some reason. The episode titled, "Bastogne" was a pretty sad episode. One of the medics had, what seemed like, fallen in love with a nurse. The building they were using as a hospital had been blown up. The nurse died. I swear, that was such a painful part of the show. All parts were painful in their own way, even the happy ones, that scene just really tugged at my heart strings. Amazing role play, really captured the feeling of the 40s!
