The lady who first stood and clapped at the end of Angelina's performance was her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani. My introduction to Angelina was on her first appearance at Norway's Got Talent and I didn't expect much from a 7 year old. Just a cute little girl, all nervous, rushing the song in parts, hesitating and then stumbling over or forgetting her words and generally acting her age and doing her best to get through a childish song like "Twinkle, twinkle little star". What did I see? Well, it was a seven year old child, with wild hair and gaps in her mouth, where there once were Baby teeth. And that was when the normal perception ended and things turned upside down. She confidently answered the questions put to her by a Judge. Declared she was going to sing a song by the legendary Billie Holiday. Gestured off stage for the technician to start the music and then started singing. The body of the 7 year old was still there but the voice wasn't. Or was itt? I was surprised then and that surprise is still with me, some six years later. I have followed her career since I saw that first video on KZfaq and in the six years she has been singing publicly she has mastered many musical genres, including Blues, Country, Disco, Jazz,Pop, R&B and Soul, EDM and Rock and covered songs first performed by many famous singers,like Adele, Whitney Houston, Nancy and Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Lana del Ray, Gloria Gaynor, Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong and many others. What is more extraordinary is that she takes ownership of every song she sings while still paying respect to the original. You will notice that she never goes into unnecessary theatrics. Never sings those high or low notes unless they are absolutely necessary. Never projects herself in any performance which says "look how good I am". She just sings the song as she feels it is meant to be sung. And I'll add an even more extraordinary item for you to consider, to show how unique she is. She has the innate ability not only to sing a song as emotionally as the song deserves but to be able to communicate those same emotions to the listener. As I have noted above, I have been following her career a long time and have listened to every interview she has given and every documentary about her and every performance she has ever given. What stands stands out for me is how a very shy and humble girl in her normal life, can be transformed into the perfect vehicle for the song she has chosen to sing, once she starts to sing. Although the gift of singing and all her performances appear to be effortless, Angelina works very hard to ensure that the one she is going to record reflects what she sees as the correct way to meld both lyrics and melody. You could probably tell in just that 3 minutes that there is something special about this girl. Just 13 years old here in this performance, but she has been singing like a pro since she was 7. Angelina sat and talk with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a Doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. The good thing about the show requiring a two minutes version is that she could change the meaning of the lyrics just by selecting certain parts. It would have been weird for a 13 y/o girl to sing “Mama, just killed a man.” Instead, her version could be about someone struggling with a life-threatening illness instead of murder and trial. It’s very cleaver. She has done similar things with other covers.

It's hard to react to an interpretation like this, you can only be impressed by the fact that Angelina at only 13 years old was able to face a challenge with such an iconic song as this and made her become her own song, with a fantastic reworking, a calm, powerful and terribly emotional interpretation. I understand your feelings very well, I listened to Angelina in this her Bohemian for at least a hundred times and it still takes me by the throat and leaves me upset. For me she is perhaps the most multifaceted and talented singer there is at the moment, if you think she is just turned 14 years. If you continue in her discovery, and I guarantee you that you have material galore, you will be constantly surprised and excited, because Angelina has that ability, with her slowed song and her soft voice, to go digging into the soul to make you move, which is really rare and she does it every time, since she had 6 years. I used to be a bit apprehensive when a reacter started a video pointing out that they're a huge fan of a song or artist that Angelina is covering. Now it just makes me happy, because I know it's very likely that they will love what Angelina does. (She doesn't always change up songs as much as she did here. When she's not singing over a backing track, she tends to slow down the song, strip down the instrumentation, and jazz up the vocals. And even when she _is_ singing over a backing track, it's not uncommon for people to come away feeling like she has sung the song better than the original artist. Her voice is _crazy_ good, and she can make it sound completely different - and yet still obviously _her_ - from one song to the next. You ain't heard nothin' yet…) If you like her runs, her next song on AGT:C, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", is also pretty insane in that regard. (Based largely on Sara Bareilles' cover of the song, the general outlines of the arrangement turned out to be pretty similar to this one here. It was impressive, but did not garner her a spot in the top 5 in the final results.) As someone has already said (essentially), you can almost pick any of her covers (or originals) at random and probably end up impressed. There is only one Angelina, but she can adapt to and embrace any musical genre that is inspiring her at that particular moment. The core of her musical being is with classic jazz standards, but she can do soul, R&D, pop, country, EDM, "adult contemporary", classical/folk, etc. Do you know any other 13 year old who has had not one but two EDM (or related style) acts compose songs for her to be the voice? I don't! 😂 One of them, "Above the Water" by TRXD can be streamed or purchased on the major services. Know any 12 year olds who were personally asked by Quincey Jones to perform "Fly Me To the Moon" (one of the all time great jazz classics, for which the seminal version was recorded in 1964 and arranged by... yep, Quincy Jones) at his 85th birthday celebration at the O2 in London? She has also written three originals: Oslo, What is Life and (this one also available to be streamed on the major services) Shield. My favourite from her 2014 (7-8 years old) breakthrough Norway's Got Talent run to Victory is "Bang Bang" but most will recommend "Gloomy Sunday" which is cool because it's her audition performance. Bang Bang was a big leap forward in confidence, stage presence and general polish, imho, so it depends on what interests you. Probably the most shocking of all her covers is "I Put a Spell on You" from shortly after she turned 9 (the B&W studio recording). It will literally blow your mind, in part because it is literally miles and miles from the voice you just fell in love with on AGT. For raw power, check out the outdoor version of "It's a Man's World", where she subdues and tames the Norwegian Armed Forces military orchestra. To see Angelina Whitney her face off (and yours), "I Have Nothing" should be your detination. Yes, Angelina's home base is the lower register but Whitney's range is also within her broader kingdom. If you feel like crying, two of her covers that have done that to me regularly are "Cry Me a River" (outdoor festival performance) and "Every Time We Say Goodbye" (on the roof of a building in downtown Oslo). I understand Angelina went into AGT knowing she could not win - from the outset she refused to sign the AGT Simon Cowell contract or be bound by its conditions. AGT still wanted her to perform because they knew that outside of the US she has millions n millions of fans... it was AJs dream since age 3 to perform for Simon... in doing the show Angelina - with a couple of flawless performances - captured the USA. Angelina has been approached by EVERY major music studio including Disney Sony etc but turned them all down... and all the music hierarchy knows who she is - but she is her own driving force and is completely in command of her music.. appearances and all performances.

Angelina was 13 when this show was recorded last October and she does all her own arrangements. You should hear her when she was 9.
