Modern Life for the 70's Mind

2 жыл бұрын

By HEAVY request, this is my third reaction video to How Great Thou Art, this time by Angelina Jordan. This one literally took my breath away. If you haven't seen her version of this song yet, PLEASE check this out along with my reaction to it. You won't regret it.
Welcome to my “Modern Life for the 70's Mind” KZfaq Channel. On this channel, I not only take a look at the songs and history that made us who we are today, but also introduce you to today's modern music as well. Any songs that combine the two are always a winner. I've always loved music and have always tried to keep a balance between the classic music I fell in love with and today's MUCH DIFFERENT sounds. Here's we'll analyze both. We’ll even take some time and revisit some of the old parts of our past that have disappeared from today’s shelves and most people’s memories. Let’s relive those moments together! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking time out of your day to check in. I appreciate it more than I can say here.

Angelina has done over 160 Covers and 8 or so originals. Since age 7 she has been doing her own arranging in every facet of her covers. At the start of “I Put A Spell On You” the caption reads “I Put A Spell On You” by Angelina Jordon And at the end of the session she was given the master copy. Most of the musicians are part of Norway’s Air Force Band and Orchestra. Courtesy of the Crown Prince of Norway who has declared her a National Treasure of Norway.

Just for fun, she sings this in the same key as Elvis does. Because of course she does. If you continue on your Angelina journey you'll soon ask yourself if there is anything she can't sing. Her covers include incredible tributes to artists as different as Billie Holiday, Amy Winehouse, Shirley Bassey, Queen, Adele, Rhianna, Whitney Houston, and Miley Cyrus, to name just a few, and she kills them every single time. There is apparently no limit to this girl's talent, skill, and beauty. 😎

This was actually done at her home in front of a white wall with a guitarist she did a lot of videos there and when she says bye at the end that's usually at home a fan added the video later. What you are essentially watching is a hobby production by Angelina Jordan. After she won Norway's got talent her mother refused to allow recording contracts. They just did some events on a very selective basis and Angelina would record stuff at home in front of a wall that was her a good microphone and someone playing the guitar.

Angelina's extensive catalog gives plenty of opportunities to pinball back and forth between totally different voices, genres, moods, ages, etc. It's great fun to watch someone experiencing that. I think your next reaction to her should be "Valerie", presented in the form of a music video shot on Venice Beach (posted to her official channel). Her vocals were recorded earlier - probably pretty close in time to this performance of HGTA, as it turns out. But if she's tapping into her "inner Elvis" here, in that one she just plain _becomes_ Amy Winehouse. 😉

"How Great Thou Art" is a Christian hymn based on a Swedish traditional melody and a poem written by Carl Boberg (1859-1940) in Mönsterås, Sweden, in 1885. It was translated into German and then into Russian. It was translated into English from the Russian by English missionary Stuart K. Hine, who also added two original verses of his own. This song has been covered by many artists, including "James Edward Cleveland, The Blackwood Brothers Quartet, Dixie Carter, Tammy Wynette, Charlie Daniels, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Burl Ives, Alan Jackson, Billy Preston, Dolly Parton, Martina McBride, Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard, Roy Rogers, George Beverly Shea, Carrie Underwood, Connie Smith, Mahalia Jackson, the Statler Brothers, Sir Howard Morrison " 💯 *AJ* 💯

Her range is actually a classic contralto with an observed tessitura range of a D3 low up to a G#5 high. She actually hit a C3 in this song which is the not you heard that wasn't as well supported. This was indeed a cover of the Elvis rendition of the song which she sung in his key and register. As you move forward in your journey with Angelina you will find that she has mastered quite a few genres including Jazz, Blues, R&B, Disco, Pop, EDM, Country, Classical, and Gospel. Thanks for another great reaction.

This is for a song you already heard: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q72fm9qas9Panok.html (I recall that most children begun to speak around 20-24 months. Angelina auditioned for Norway’s Got Talent at the age of 7, sang four short songs, and you would think you were listening to a grown lady from the 40s, 50s or 60s. Worth listening to, as it makes it easier to understand how she can do what she does. Enjoyed your show and tell of the 45 record inserts, I still have a few kicking around. Never seen those dicta belts before. Very interesting.

Angelina doesn't just approach contralto, she's DEEP into contralto range with this: she hits a D3 at the bottom in this (many times). Typically only professionally-trained, classical singers get down this low (the bottom is typically F3 for a contralto; Angelina is a couple of steps lower than that!). Why? Because this is in the same range & key as Elvis' version -- so she was literally channeling Elvis! For Angelina in full "Gospel Mode," watch her cover of Etta James' "Something's Got a Hold on Me" here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iqmTZ7yb18-XoJc.html

If you are looking for another adjective, how about otherworldly? What you were just beginning to discover is why Angelina is known as the barefoot princess of 1,000 voices. You have now heard two distinctly different voices. Angelina has the unique capability of being able to channel any one of her influences into her songs. Billie holiday, Ella fitzgerald, Diana washington, Aretha franklin, Elvis presley, adele, Amy Winehouse, and many others. In this song she fully channeled Elvis and saying in his register! You indicated how incredible this was because she was a 12-year-old girl here singing in the same low register as a 30-year-old plus male! Angelina has the ability to adjust the tone and the style of any song she sings and pays respect the original artists. I have never seen anything like it in a young singer. Also, you may have noticed the emotion she exhibited in this song as she does in all of her songs. Even if she has not experienced the event. I'm not sure if you are aware that Angelina won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8 years old singing old classic songs. Angelina also sings barefoot all the time When she was 6 years old, she was in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own shoes and promised she would never again wear shoes while performing until all children of the world had shoes! At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She is a special individual. Here is link from ages 6 to 15 to her chronological performances, including five originals. m.kzfaq.info/sun/PL2v8kgVeo4EbYDVnRwObjETfWpXbzbgIO Finally, thanks for reacting to Angelina. You should be proud you have helped introduce her to a wider audience. Since you admire the artist, why not offer the level of support they deserve? You will further advance the careers of each featured artist by verbally encouraging your viewers to watch, like and comment on the original videos, AND to subscribe to their official channels as you do for your own channel. You also may use screen graphics to accomplish this. Thanks for providing the official Channel link, but please add the original video as well. Thank you on behalf of these young performers as these guidelines will benefit their KZfaq analytics and record labels. They will also endear your fan base and thus increase your own subscriptions. What you said---Ditto! And for me, having heard many, many different singers perform this classic song, I was convinced that Elvis and Carrie were never to be joined by anyone at the top (IMO). Then I heard Angelina's version. And WOW!!! For me, she is right up there with Carrie and Elvis. Completely different take on this song, and maybe my all time favorite. Can't get through the way she does the chorus without tearing up. On another note, if you like singers who perform with just an acoustic guitar (or piano), then you are in for a treat with Angelina. Could not help but smile when you said you a big fan of just an acoustic guitar and a good voice.... Angelina has a ton of songs featuring just her beautiful raw vocals, no production or gimmicks, and an acoustic guitar. She has a good friend and guitar player named Egil Clausen for songs she performed in Norway and another great guitarist named Ivan Mendez for her recordings in LA. If that is what you like to listen to then there is a plethora of music from Angelina featuring just what you like and all are spectacular with or without a Microphone. Great reaction BTW.

Hi Bob, I'm glad you allowed a third version of "How great thou art". It is certainly not easy for your listeners to convey why a song, albeit by different singers, is listened in such a short time. Now that we know all three versions, I think you/we can understand it. They are so different that they are actually own songs. The Home Free version is acapella with great voices. Carrie Underwood almost makes a flawless county song out of it. She also has a great voice. And her last note still rings in my ear.😂 And Angelina makes a very quiet song out of it. You could almost call it a lullaby. This deep voice is certainly exceptional for a 13-year-old girl. It's not for nothing that she's called the barefoot princess with 1000 voices. And you only now know two of their voices. A wonderful song, I think, and now we know at least three extraordinarily beautiful and completely different versions. Thank you very much for this comparison. Have a nice day and Greetings from Germany

There's a tonal quality to her voice that really moves me. This isn't one of my particular favorite performances of hers, although it's certainly pleasant to listen to. I'll recommend her cover of Lana Del Rey's song Young & Beautiful if you like that lower register. You really need to listen to Bohemian Rhapsody; in fact, every one of her America's Got Talent: The Champions performances is worth a listen. I'll also recommend a new jaw-droppin' performance for you: Shoshana Bean singing Make It Rain live at The Theatre At Ace Hotel. It's blues perfection.

Yeah, you have just scratched the surface of what Angelina has done (it would be wrong to say 'what she can do ' because honestly, we don't know the depth and breadth of that)! If you're looking for other words to describe her, try insanely versatile, sometimes haunting, intense, calm, effortless, and sublime. She sings in an exposed way (as here) fearlessly. Add to that a slow tempo and a very low range and another aspect of her capabilities begins to show. She has a bunch of performances with just her and a guitar (A Million Years Ago, Always On My Mind, First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Stay, Titanium, just to name a few). Here are few other gems you shouldn't miss: "A Man's World"(James Brown) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fqudatd419Cte58.html , "Lovin You"(Etta James-I Just Want To Make Love To You) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j5qHg8Wez825l2g.html , "Feeling Good" (various) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pp6bdK9e2K2uqGw.html , and Her original "Million Miles" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/abGoqdqmv53TdYE.html Her original "7th Heaven" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b9h8nLqn3ODGc3U.html

Now that I've finished watching your reaction, I should point out that you can hear both an original take on a classic song _and_ the same guitarist who accompanied her here (Ivan Mendez) if you react to her cover of the Mamas and the Papas' "California Dreamin'", found on her CoverChannel (i.e., "Angelina Jordan CoverChannel"). The basic arrangement she's using seems to have been inspired by the version Sia sang for the _San Andreas_ soundtrack. But, as usual, Angelina really "makes it her own". She was 12, BTW. And even though Ivan looks pretty young, he was more than twice her age at the time (probably in his late 20s, because he was in college in 2011).
