Hallo Ceci, This was on Skavlan, a talk-show sent in both Norway and Sweden. She was 12 years old here and has of course written this song herself. When I heard this song on Television for the first time, I was blown away. You just know that she will be GREAT❤

The lyrics are deeply personal about her own life so far. Supporting a talented kid is a huge burden for any family - hence "Forgive me for what I am". And when she got viral with Norways Got Talent - the struggle to protect her from that media circus is real. After NGT the family was swarmed by music label execs from LA offering "insane amounts of money" (her uncle/managers words). We all know what that industry does to kids. Earlier or later they are discarded like a broken doll, most utterly broken. Her family didnt sell her off though, they declined all offers including Disney. Her mum also made sure she stayed primarily a kid and had a mostly normal childhood. And she made sure she never was unsupervised and nobody could put a hand on her. Her mum did a good job to shield her from the risks of her situation as a child star.

Yes, I understand why this reminds you of I’m Still Holding Out for You. We get slow and somber lyrics followed by a higher and more energetic chorus that’s very, very catchy. We get different sides of Angelina’s voice and the effects she pulls out of her vocal toolkit so easily. We’re so used to Angelina’s talent that it’s easy to overlook the depth, power and resonance she can give us-at twelve years old. And I like the sentiment of this song that recognizes the importance of her family that encourages and protects her simultaneously. (You’re singing that chorus at the end of your reaction. I told you it was catchy.)

Hola Ceci, this song is Angelinas way to thank her family for always having her back and shielding her from all harmfull influences and people growing up. As you know by now AJ is the sole driving force behind her own career. This drive of AJ:s most likely sometimes clashed with her mothers intent to let Angelina have a normal childhood. So her mom must have had to try to slow her talented daughter down a little from time to time. The family life has also to a great extent centered around Angelinas singing career thru the years. So in this song she seems to asks her family to forgive her for being so driven. Or at least that is my take on the meaning behind the lyric "forgive me for all that I am" in this song. Kevin Neal I am sure others will fill you in on the details of this song. I believe she co-wrote this with two other people. I am not positive who wrote the lyrics but I feel the lyrics are from Angelina as she is referring to her family.

Thanks Ceci had not noticed the similarities to the song "Above The Water" , there is a very nice interview prior to this performance where Angelina is asked by the TV host Skavlan about this song, and she explains the meaning and says yes she wrote these lyrics her self, which is very evident if one knows the heart of Angelina. There is also a very powerful symbolic music video of her running along a railroad track with her outfit of many colors holding some flowers in her hand with shoes on and then she come out from under the railroad now wearing a sort of tattered white peasant looking dress with a rough cord around it and now she is barefoot. The flowers she was carrying along with tattered pieces of fragments of material of the colors from what look likes the clothes she was wearing in the first scene, are adorned on a cross, /she walks up to the cross and kisses it , behind the cross is a mound of dirt that looks like something has just been buried and put to rest. She hangs on to the cross as wind blows it and a train roars by and she, still hanging on to the cross with one hand jumps up and down waving frantically at it as it passes by in full speed, The next scene she is knelling down by a little fire and seems to be putting something into it all around her and the fire is what looks like money strewn about . She seems to be putting this into the fire to be burned up. The symbolism of this video are incredible ,one could a book just on the video alone with out even contemplating the lyrics to the song ,add the lyrics and this is a masterpiece of creative genius . Some comments say these words where written for her family ,however , With due respect to everyone's opinion , ( here is another perspective for this song of what and who these words of Shield may have been penned and written for and about). Some of these words could be about her Mother and family, however Angelina has never herself claimed as of yet that they are penned exclusively for her family. Here is the only quote from Angelina during a tv interview I have found, where she says what this song is about, Quote; " It is about , some one you love , where ever you are , a strong love , protects you", unquote. if it had been written solely as a tribute to her Mother and family, as humble loving and honest as Angelina is I surely believe she would have made it clear at that time in a public interview, before she sang it. However ,she left it ambiguous, as this song is more as a prayer to some one who will protect and look out for her forever, Mothers and family are not here forever to protect as her song says. This verse of the song seems to refer to an eternal protector , ("please let my shelter' for 'ever 'hold"). Family are not here forever . This line could very well about her mother, Grandmother ,and family," keep me from danger don't leave me to soon". This line refers to a spiritual protector, "surround me with Angels don't let them go". Family can not complete that prayer in that line , only God can do that. I have watched every interview by her and so far she has never claimed they are written solely for her Mother and family. If some one has seen an interview where she makes this claim, that I have missed please give the reference , would love to see it. Most people commenting seem to know very little of spiritual words she has used in this song. . I fell confident that if she wrote a song about her mother as a tribute it would not have the spiritual meanings this one has , and she would surely would not hesitate in giving that duet honor to her Mother ,Grandmother and family members. The words to this song are very deep for a young girl to have penned and yet she said she wrote them , they are difficult to put them as tribute only to her mother or family if you know anything of spiritual matters. These words line up perfectly with scripture. Most people commenting on this one seem to know very little of spiritual words. Some one has has probably posted their opinion that this was a tribute to her mother and others have adopted it as a fact. Either way , it is an awesome song for a young girl to have written and arranged. Imbedded in the sound waves, is "Vocal-Joy" and those waves shower you with Joy. Everyone should be, showered in love and Joy "Showered" That's part of the Orchestra of Angelina Jordan, the girl that makes us cry?

It's very dramatic when she makes wide interval jumps from a chest voice to her head voice but the thing that's amazing is that she lands on the high note in perfect pitch at a belting volume. It's like a right hook that you don't see coming. If you don't do it perfectly it could be such a disaster in a live performance that I imagine many singers just wouldn't have the chops or the courage to take the risk. It's like watching a high wire act working without a net.

It reminds me of THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH performed by Shirley Manson & Garbage, which is a band that uses flattened lyrics that explode into crescendo choruses. But this is a great example of the obvious "arrangement skills" where Angelina can write on her piano, discover effects and incorporate those, then have the 3 bandmates perform them.

Hola Señora Ceci, I don't know if you have read her "Live story" by Rusty one Andy. AJ tried to sing WHITNEY HOUSTON when 18 months old. At 4 she entered the Academy of Music and Performing Arts Oslo by her own insistent. When 6 she visited the normal Waldorf School Oslo And did the "After school program" of the Academy. So you see she had already some experience at 7. When she was 11 there was an emergency fundraiser concert with Nora Jones in Seoul/Korea, and she was asked, if she wanted to sing before Nora. She did so, in front of an audience of more than 40.000 people. After finishing her performance, it seems the crowd went wild and wanted an encore of AJ. Gracias señora Ceci. Stay save and healthy. When she does her global attack (question); Do you think she has developed this style to manage her breathing? A coping mechanism carried over from her early start up period. I know it works for her but their are techniques that can be learned in order to enunciate the words. Especially important when the words can be the essence of a song. I'm a bit critical but my point is obvious, I want the best for the best.

Some of the details that you noticed on the first listen, and even more on the second listen, are what set you apart by miles from others reactors I watch with some frequency. You are honestly the best and I hope that Angelina continues to grow in a positive manner. You are absolutely correct that Angie is really a shy and introverted young woman. This not a bad thing, it is just a thing. She does not have to change this significant aspect of her personality in order to be a successful stage and recording artist. If you look at some successful artists who may be more extroverted, their paths to success have not been less difficult. Angelina is very important and special.
