@K3Best of course it's fair! There are photos of her holding a sign up at some sort of rally with the Russian "Z" war symbol. It would be barbaric to allow Russia to compete on the same stage as the Ukrainians, Romanians, and the other nations who have taken in so many Ukrainians refugees. Last I knew Russia AGAIN couldn't compete with their flag or country name and I'm sorry, but as it should be!! The athletes should have stayed out of the war mongering [the Russian male gymnast who stood on the podium, in silver position with a gold winning Ukrainian at the beginning of the war, slapped the "Z" on his leotard just before mounting the podium so it was too late to stop him? Blame him!]
@agent6069 ай бұрын
@@K3Bestit’s absolutely fair. Russian sports are indisputably tied to their government to the point where Russian athletes are used as propaganda machines. When sport and state are one, you cannot separate them. What’s really not fair is for Ukrainian gymnasts to have to face their invading neighbors who have shown their absolute support for the war and death of millions of Ukrainian civilians. What isn’t fair is Russia being able to practice in their state of the art government funded complex while Ukrainians are having meets in high school gyms with no electricity, not knowing if a missile will hit their city at any time. Missing competitions vs watching your entire life implode isn’t comparable.

Some thoughts: I think Melnikova hasn't been training as intensely with the situation in Russia rn since the odds of being able to compete at international events are quite slim. Yeah, domestic scores are obviously inflated...it's not a surprise. Part of me thinks it's a way for Russian sports outlets or journalists to claim that Russian gymnasts are performing better than other nations without being able to actually compete against them in competitions. Also, idk why y'all are hating on her floor music. I think it's iconic and different from the same boring melodies or classical music. The choreography is sharp and precise, and she isn't very static.
@You-dh1du9 ай бұрын
Also some updates on IOC's decision about Russian participation in Paris. I think it will be really hard for Listunova to participate because she's apparently been sanctioned by Ukraine for being at a pro-war rally. Melnikova may have a better chance, but she is currently training at a club affiliated with the Russian military/law enforcement, so she would need to leave her club and train at one that is unaffiliated in order to be eligible to compete. This is still pretty tricky but as far as I am aware Melnikova has not been sanctioned for publicly supporting the war so I think her odds are better than Listunova or Vladislava Urazova.
