@Frank Collins A singer songwriter doesn't need to be "intellectual" . A real singer and Songwriter uses more of his heart, it is emotions and passion you need to be able to write songs. Singers and lyricists are considered poets. They convey their emotions to their listeners and audiences like poets to their readers. Artists you may call both. One doesn't need to have a powerful and pitch perfect voice which only reach the ears of the listeners. One should be able to connect to his listeners/audiences trough emotions and conveys the message he want his audience to get. Other well renowned and famous singers may have wonderful voices and have beautiful songs that are good to listen. But to touch one's heart, to share and let your listeners feel your emotions is another level not all singers can do.Remember music is an emotional reflection of the singer and of the writer. And that's what Mark does when he sings, he's an effective storyteller.
