Sabaton History

4 жыл бұрын

The shadow of trench warfare is a long one. In fact the soldiers at the front did not just rely on their guns and grenades alone, but on a wartime industry to keep them fighting. Everything had to be produced in the millions. Not only rifles, cartridges and shells, but boots, helmets, spades and everything else that was used on a daily basis. The Great War was a war that thrived on a nation-wide war-economy, the likes of which had never been seen or tried before.

So... 100 grams of patatoes have on average 225 Calories. An average person at the time was smaller then today my source said 167,6 cm so i say they weight about 65 Kg since nutrition wasn't that good as it is nowerdays the skeleton weights about 8 Kg for a person this size and we can say that the rest is meat of some sort. Organs have a different nutritional value then muscles but i take the 140 calories per 100g as Google gives that value for beef. So 65 body - 8kg bones is 58 kg of eatable stuff 58*140*10 = 87000 kilocalories. Google gives patatoes 90 grams i go with 100 since patatoes aren't always the same and its easier to calculate. So 255(calories of 100g patatoe)*x = 870000 -> x = 341,18 i round it to 341 so you need 341 patatoes for 1 human. In the price of a mile video someone else calculated that the price of a mile is ca 70000 men so 341*70000 = 23870000 So thats the price of a mile in patatoes.

When I see the old movies of the Atlantic Wall in France with all the bunkers and guns, I think of all the things that could have been built with the materials. That was only one spot. Fortifications from the channel to the edges of Prussia. Mark Twain had a prayer called The War Prayer. It starts out with a wish for death of our enemies and then goes to the aftermath. Great episode! I'm one of the people who would totally get interested in talking about trench warfare at a party. If you interested to read first person account on trench warfare, I recommend Ernst Junger's "Storm of Steel" (from the perspective of German Empire's solder during the years 1915-1918, very graphic description of life in the trenches, night raids into no man's land and enemy lines, etc) and Huntly Gordon's "The Unreturning Army" (from British Empire's soldier's perspective; this book contains a lot of details of army supply chain - what Indy was talking about in this episode).

I purposefully picked a book called Three Day Road to read in my English class. It's a fictional novel based on Francis Pegahmagabow. Thanks to Sabaton and Sabaton History, I can apply a bunch of history knowledge to my monologue project! Thank you, Sabaton and Sabaton History for all you do!

Again going back to Angels Calling? That show with Apocalyptica was amazing but I think that I can ask for it here now. Would you guys consider restocking the Angels Calling T-shirt? I really hope to get one as I couldn't buy one in Antwerp. Glad to see that you guys worked together on this song here and the whole stuff that you went back to this. It was a good episode.

Oh talking about warfare and history on parties, that is a trap I have fallen in when one of my classmates and the girls attending our University student dinner got me talking on and on. They even quized me on random topics (I scored 70 % hehe). Believe it or not the guys sitting on the other side of me thought that Sabaton sounded gay!

3:20 - did the German infantry rotate units at the front in a similar timeframe to the Allies or did they leave units there for significantly longer? I ask because of Verdun, where the French rotated their units in and out, yet German units stayed in the battle and losses were topped up, which meant that surviving veterans had to stay in the hell of Verdun until most of them perished.
