Great reaction - and a double feature too. The original and the unfinished versions are so different to each other, but Su just puts everything into every performance and really expresses all the emotions regardless of whether you can understand what she is saying or not.

The Unfinished Version was right after Head Banger. Su hits the gong and falls down and the lights go down. When the lights go up Su sits up and sings this song.

I can't watch the Unfinished version without getting a few tears in my eyes. Such a beautiful performance.

*Aka* (紅, red) *Tsuki* (月, moon) is a song were Suzuka is saying goodbye to an unknown love. In that last show, Legend 1997, the intro explains part of the storyline of that show. She has to sacrifice her red metal warrior soul to paint the moon and save Moa and Yui from a curse. Ikusen mo no yoru o koete iki tsuzukeru ai ga aru kara kono karada ga horobiru made inochi ga kieru made mamori tsuzukete yuku. _(Going over thousands nights, some love shall survive. So, until my body perishes, until my life disappears, I shall keep on cherishing this love)._ Then the song ends *Akaku somare! Makka ni somare!* (Dye Red! Dye Bloody Red!). This was actually the song they performed just before the Babymetal Death from Legend 1997 you watched already. There she is supposed to be brought back by the grace of the Fox God. She makes that face because she is just an awesome actress and performer too. And it was just her 16th birthday there. Actually for that song they let her do the choreo and the way to sing the song, so it has had a great evolution with the time, with Suzuka putting a lot of effort trying to find the correct way to perform it. On the first shows they performed the song it is more devoid of emotion than it is now, she has improved it a lot. We can see it a bit less emotional at Legend I for example ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jsp4dMp3tsuzmH0.html ), or at Legend 1999 ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gr6ceNanqsDQdX0.html ) that were a year / 6 months before aprox. Oh and Mikio was not performing at Budokan Black Night, those were Leda Cygnus and Takayoshi Ohmura, that are still on the band today (without Mikio they are the main guitar guys now, well Ohmura has always been number one).

As much as I love the Budokan performance, the unfinished version is such a gem. As you say, Su is awesome at bringing the emotion across which given her own objections about not being able to convey the emotion enough while singing No Rain, No Rainbow previously shows just how high the bar is that she sets for herself. That's why the greats are the greats. Cheers mate.

The unfinished version of Akatsuki is a masterpiece. Somehow she really sings this on the edge of her voice, it sounds like she's almost ready to break out in tears. And you can hear that. It is absolutely phenomenal how much emotion she can put into her voice.

I am a Japanese but my literacy does not have distinct advantage in emotions stirred by her voice which comes directly to the hearts of audience. Akatsuki, Akatsuki unfinished version and No Rain No Rainbow are the songs I really want to see current and matured Su-Metal sing. I can not imagine how beautifully she would perform.

I love the fact that you did both versions. The unfinished Akatsuki doesn't get as much love as it should. Su gives a very emotional performance. I swear I hear shakiness in her voice when she drops to her knees at the end.

"It's just perfect" that was cool to hear because I usually define this song and performance (the Budokan's one) as an example of perfection, needless to say this is my favorite song... She owns the stage and commands the whole venue and that is amazing and one of the reasons why she's called the Queen. Also kudos to the kamis, they are outstanding as usual. About the "unfinished" version... the way she's able to convey emotions is out of this world. And she was only 16 years old on both performances... that is something easy to forget. If you notice, in all their live performances, the lighting will be blue on Su's gentler vocal parts but changes to red on the wilder parts. PS The second version was played just after Headbanger and just before THAT version of Death. Her versatility really shows itself between those 3 songs, all in a row. I don't know if there was a tear or two in there but I certainly felt there was a ton of emotion and had to stop myself hugging the PC monitor and patting the back of it while saying "It'll all be fine, my queen, don't cry" a few times.

Both versions are absolutely beautiful. This is only the second time watching the unfinished version though. First time I watched it I couldn't see the screen through the waterfall of tears so I was reluctant to watch it again, lol. I managed to keep it at a light mist this time. I, of course, couldn't turn off the video since I know Queen Su Goddess of all that is Metal will know it. I am not prepared to receive that Death Stare straight from Japan. Kitsune Up! 🤘🦊🤘

I absolutely agree about the two long strains of hair framing the bangs! It makes every face look so much better! A while ago someone mentioned in the comments what they are called, and I intended to keep it in mind, but it has already escaped me. I remember that the word also means "antenna" or "feeler". :-) Many people have mentioned that they feel like Su was crying during that performance. It might have been just sweat, who knows. It surely feels like it's true emotions, on the other hand I totally expect that Su would be able to fool us all into thinking that, if she wanted to. Either way, it's a great performance of a fantastic song. I guess it also speaks for the song writing quality, if the same composition works perfectly in two completely different arrangements. I don't remember whether you have already watched "No Rain, no Rainbow" at Legend S, that's a performance where I don't have any doubt that she was truly about to cry.

Their is an old interview, I'll be paraphrasing how I remember it: the girls are still young and they were saying Akatsuki was practiced regularly. Not because it needed to be practiced, Su-metal was doing it very well. But because everytime when it was asked: what song needs to be practiced Yuimetal and Moametal would say: Akatsuki needs more practice. And they won the vote 2 against 1. Why did they want Su-metal to practice the song so often ?: "Su-metal looks so cool with her cape !" She is fully into the moment. She has said in the past, she takes months to really take in a song. She does it all with feeling. Change nothing let's keep it this way. So the unfinished version is just pure Su-metal, no real instructions, etc. just her feelings/interpretation of the song. Both the budokan and unfinished versions blow the studio version away. First listen had akatsuki towards the bottom of my list for babymetal, but the live version from budokan red gets a LOT of plays on my Spotify.

"Dye Crimson! Dye Bloody Crimson!" Ahhhhh! AKATSUKI-da! I say it always but I love this song! Really! Su-metal's solos are really just damn near catered to my personal taste in music! There's really nothing to be said for the Black Night Akatsuki performance other than perfect! As you said. Even though her other performances of it were just as excellent, the Budokan performances were just soooo epic, especially at the time, especially at THAT venue! As for the unfinished, the first couple times I heard it, I loved it and thought it was beautiful, but that it was a bit straining for Su at the time! After listening to it a few more times and really paying attention to the vid itself, I saw that it was just that there was that much emotion put into it! Which, of course, made me love it even more (as you said, when an audience can objectively see/hear/feel the emotions of the performer, it translates into more appreciation of the art itself (in BABYMETAL'S case, their whole show with music, dance, theatrics, staging, and even lighting)!!! Good morning This song is so amazing and the unfinished version is so beautiful regarding on the VERGING MARIE STATUE if you pay attention it has SU-METAL’ s face. Also if you do a reaction to : AVA MARIE this is the first track of the 1997 legend concert, the girls have a very intense performance that involves the statue and then goes into an amazing performance of HEADBANGER THAT MOST PEOPLE NEVER SEEN. This HEADBANGER IS MORE LIKE A J POP PERFORMANCE ON AN EUROTHECNO DJ STILE TRACK. For me this is the best headbanger version. Also IF YOU LIKE THE KAWAII STILE OF BABYMETAL YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT: AWADAMA FEVER LEGEND 2015 this is one of their most Kawaii performances ever.

At the end when the song turned, you could definitely hear her almost get choked up. 😭 There is a version of this performance that has English subs.

Thank you for this nice pairing of these two performances. Not just any pink guitar, that's "pink-chan". Not just any strands of hair, those are Su-metal's 'antennae' (sadly lost as she evolves toward her final form). The picture stories follow the Japanese tradition of 'kamishibai', which all by itself is quite intriguing. The red moon you will notice is thematic throughout Babymetal, which to me represents the pains and sorrows of life. The death stare at the end of the first performance is really Su-metal facing down the red moon in her life (and as depicted in the kamishibai). The song is about some kind of love relationship that has seen a lot of trouble. At the climax of this song, she laments "kizuna-o" as she variously raises and emotes to her pinky finger (8:23). Kizuna is another remarkable tradition that through good and bad, soul mates are forever tied by their pinky fingers with an invisible red thread of fate (this thread literally featured in a Kyary song). Su says she spends many months internalizing completely each song, and it is said she was dissatisfied with her first performance of this song, feeling that she was too young and inexperienced to properly emote it... and indeed it was quite some time before she next performs it.
