On Today's Episode:
For the highly motivated driven woman reading this, we’ve got one question for you. What are you chasing after? When you show up in your career or your business, are you getting the respect you want or is everyday the battle for your boundaries and peace of mind?
AngieMartinez, Radio Hall of Famer, The Voice of New York, Radio Hip Hop Legend, has earned the respect of some of the biggest names in hip hop like Jay-Z and TuPac. Angie went from a young girl with zero experience interning at Hot 97 in New York to being synonymous with hip hop culture and generating value beyond anything she ever imagined.
She’s definitely of the Hustle Hard mentality and like many of us she’s had to learn how to speak up and hold her ground in a culture that can be totally intimidating. Angie’s path to becoming the legend that she is was rough, not clearly defined and something we all can relate to.
How do you crawl through a mile of crap and become resilient as heck on the other side of it all? You pick yourself up, decide the story you’re going to tell yourself, and learn that there needs to be harmony between what you’re chasing and being content where you are right now.
Angie’s 2 Life Changing Boundaries
Be around people who don’t want what’s best for you
Don’t be around someone who resents your drive
Check out Angie’s memoir, My Voice: www.amazon.com/My-Voice-Memoi...
QUOTES:
“There’s a fine line between giving everybody grace and letting people get away with stuff.”
“I’m also learning the things I need for myself, I need for myself, and if that means that someone else is disappointed, it’s okay.”
“Sometimes you have to go hard until someone peels you off the floor and tells you to take a nap.”
“We’re always chasing something till the day we’re gone, but what we chase adjusts”
“Your whole life can’t be in the thing over there, you have to at some point be right here and love this.”
“It’s not that I’m humble, I’m just realistic.”
“There’s always a way and you can figure it out, and if you haven’t, you just haven’t figured it out yet.”

I get it that some people want to be seen, heard are dealing with something, but you’re not taking that out on me. It seems some people, regardless of whether they’ve been traumatized or not target you when you allow it. I’ve been through a lot but it has made me want to treat people better (not disrespect or push them around) and have better boundaries(not letting them disrespect or push me around). I can understand from a different perspective that some people including myself, have very strong boundaries because of what we’ve been through which can be mistaken for been rude or disrespectful no matter how nicely you put it. I’m going to stand my ground when you come for me, but I wouldn’t just come at you for no reason. Thank you soo much, you always remind of who I am❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. We love and appreciate your hard work.

I always tell myself "Tomorrow is a new day". But we can shift our energy into a higher level as soon as we decide to. Allowing ourselves to suffer in the weight of gloom is a comfortable place to be... but allowing ourselves to feel Excited and Free is an even more comfortable place to Be. 👊❤

This is only temporary. You just got to ride it out. And you're gotta grow through it. And be better off in the end... Healthy boundaries. Responding with compassion & a willingness to understand & help disarms people. Everyone has the fundamental need to be seen, to be heard, to be loved, understood & never forgotten. God bless you guys! Beautiful interview!

I honestly didn’t know who Angie was because I’m not that into hip hop culture but she is THE MOST likable, relatable, down to earth person. I absolutely love her perspective and can really feel that she is a human with integrity and truly genuine! I really learned a lot from this interview and I’m now such a fan of hers.

Wow the comment about feeling content where you are as opposed to feeling like you won’t be happy til you reach that thing “over there”, is so on point. It’s good to have goals but it’s also important to feel happy in the moment, especially when life moves so fast.

Angie Martinez is a living legend!!! I am so glad you had her on your show, to hear her in the interviewee seat. She has so many bragging rights and yet she has the wisdom and humility to recognize that there are so many moving parts that are beyond our control in getting us where we are - and that shows her integrity. My favorite part is the end, around 1:05 on her two boundaries. That life lesson right there is something I recently had to learn via a group of "friends" of over a decade. I realized most of them were not actually rooting for my success, and I never felt good around them. It took one of them doing heinous to see that they really don't have my best interest at heart. I communicated my boundaries and differences and I have marked my distance and let me tell you the weight off of my shoulders and sense of peace - and actual opportunities and blessings in my life now are beyond words! I love that Angie is spreading this message because it can be literally life saving and yet it can seem so easy to dismiss in the name of maintaining the status quo and avoiding the discomfort of "loosing" people (it's really their loss). We must always check in with ourselves and stay true to our core needs to live and thrive
