5 жыл бұрынAngola on Saturday prepared to bury rebel leader Jonas Savimbi, in his home village at a public funeral, an important sign for national reconciliation seventeen years after the end of a bloody civil war.
As early as Friday evening, hundreds of people accompanied his remains to the village of Lopitanga in the centre of the country, where they will be buried.

Gunnar Ellermann that’s not true though. Savimbi got support from the maoist chinese so he definitely couldn’t have demanded that without his allies breaking the supplyline. At least until he changed his mind and took arms from apartheid south africa and changed into a conservative.

@@hatinmyselfiscool2879 Too bad MPLA massacred 10,000 voters because they're voting for Savimbi, and UNITA betrayed him for not taking the Vice Presidency position and Savimbi preferred to rebel against the system. Yes, he had many wives but its a normal custom of their culture and not to mention that most of his descendants later became big figure in Angolan politics.

Granted Savimbi was a pro-imperialist who resorted to inflicting civilian casualties for power while accepting aid from a racist regime, but 1992 wasn’t really a particularly good year for any Ovimbundu who lived in Luanda, either.
