Salty old guy in my neighborhood hates my mini bike. My harmless, fun, and pretty decently quiet mini bike.

The cops don't seem to mind me cruising around the side streets where I live. I think as long as you're riding responsibly, following the rules of the road, and being respectful most are cool with it.

Damn, you just took this old lady back to 1972 when I finally wore my dad down enough that he got me a minibike. I put so many miles on that thing. At least for a few years, it kept me from begging for a motorcycle which I had done since I was 8. He replaced so many parts over time, and when it finally got to the point that the engine was shot, I finally got that motorcycle. Just a little one. A Yamaha 100 Enduro, and as I was finding new ways to go airborne on it, he was telling me not to ever let mom know what I was doing on that thing because she'd kill him. I made up excuses for torn clothes, a little blood now and then, grass and dirt stains on my jeans. She never knew how much fun I had. Growing up on a farm is the best playground a kid will ever have.

I want kids to have fun but don't like loud bikes running back and forth past my house for hours on end. I understand that since I live in an area where all the houses are close together this is going to happen from time to time so I don't make a big deal about it. Instead of asking the kids to stop riding back and forth I just bought a 40 acre lot out in the country and am having a house built on it. That is where I will find peace and quiet.

Just a thought here, sign or no sign, driving in park isn't a good idea. I don't think that guy way to bad. He could have been much worse of just called the cops and not said a word to you. He essentially gave you a free pass this time.

I talked to a county sheriff here in Ohio about riding on the roads with our quads and dirt bikes, he was an older guy about 65-70 years old. He told us that he didn’t give a rats ass if we drove our stuff on the roads, just don’t ride around like jackasses, and follow basic traffic laws. He told us that if we were doing a million miles an hour and we crashed or got wrapped around a tree, that he would come write the report for it, and clean it up. Coolest sheriff ever!

I have a Massimo 196cc and after a few hours of riding, it suddenly starts to creep without giving it gas...before it would just stay as supossed to. throttle cable to handlebar is fine....any ideas?

I'm 52 years old and live in a neighborhood where kids ride their mini bikes and motorcycles all the time during the summer. Let the kids have fun. I did the same thing back in the day and remember the old farts bitching at me. I swore that I would never be like them.

It's way cheaper than the hotrodminibike one and it's the exact same brake.

Check your local laws, but some states do not require licensing if the engine is under 49cc.

In mizzou you dont need a license if its under 50cc to ride it so minibikes are an amazing cheat way to get places as long as you dont need groceries or something

I'm 50 but was young once, so from my personal point of view I wouldn't have any issue "apart from insurance " now if you was to hit your neighbors car ( or worse still kid) can you afford the medical expenses? or repairs to their vehicle? Shit does happen's , so I can understand the perspective! Most people don't mind kids having fun, so long as they aren't creating a nuisance or a danger ( some adults will exaggerate the dangers) but also the younger generation don't always think of the consequences if something goes wrong/accident. Not sure if you could insure your bike for third party though?

I'm 57, in Australia, and I faced exactly the same sort of problems with 'old farts' in 1972 when I was 11 on my Deltek Rockhopper. The more things change . . . . worse these days with every one wanting to appear so PC and doing only things that are "appropriate". God, I hate that word, don't you? Have fun on your minibike but be careful and not stupid. Most of all have fun!

Now he has it out for you. Next time, politely tell him that you are doing your best not to be a nuisance, and that you understand his point. The reason that "old farts" complain is because when somebody creams you in their car, their life is over. As a former mini-bike owner, and as a present owner of ATVs, I know that tons of laws suck. But I also understand that we have them for a reason. Have your fun- but do it as respectfully as you can, and try to stay out of the neighbors' hair. And trust me, this guy wasn't nasty at all! I've been both physically attacked and car-chased while on my quad. Remember, the law is simply not on your side: that feeling of getting pissed off from it is the spoiled child that's inside all of us. It always wants to do whatever it wants, but you have to remind it to be reasonable every once in a while.

PA -J- That small bike can't beat the radio. I know from personal experience. I got charged with evading arrest and also tazed. Bike got impounded and now I can't feel my legs, smh. Insurance firm helped me plenty to receive my compensation and they can help you too. Just yell out your window "It's my money and I need it noooooow!!!"

I am all for today's youth having minibikes in small town neighborhoods. Look at what this kid is doing. He is building problem solving skills on his own. Troubleshooting his rig to see what's wrong with it, on his own. He's not sitting in the park on top of the slide smoking reefer!!

I have a neighbor who bought a house on the the street that's one of two primary ways into my neighborhood and frequently display signs in the yard like "slow down" or "drive like your kids live here" or put these bright yellow ruuning-kid-shaped sandwich board signs in the street. They also don't seem to do much to dissuade their kids (whomappear to be 7-10 years old) from being in the street without proper attention and respect paid to traffic. Your "rev my loud car" thing at the end struck home. I leave mine in first gear so I can pass their house at 3500-4000 rpm and accelerating (not exceeding the limit, of course) just so they can hear racecar noises and clutch their pearls harder.

I had one of those gopeds before I got real motorcycles, I rode it all around, in town, on main roads, sidewalks, parks, etc and never got in trouble. A cop even asked me if I made it myself and said it was totally cool, no moped sticker or license or anything at that point. Thing did 18mph, it was great. Too bad people have to ruin the fun man

I rode loud mini bikes often when I was a kid, 1 time an elderly man came out of his home screaming, yelling & running toward me. He was a ww 2 veteran & at the time I thought he was a complete whack job, but as I got older I thought about the incident now & then & believe it or not I actually looked at the scenario from a different perspective as I became an adult. Some elderly are noise sensitive especially some veterans. A nice quiet neighborhood should just be that, a nice quiet neighborhood.

The best idea is to know the laws in your area. Sometimes a vehicle with an engine less that 50 cc does not need any licensing, insurance, plates, etc. Sometimes any size engine requires all of those things. Know the law.

MachineFreaks- Get a grip. You don't ride mini-bikes through a park. Save it for the trail, then you can ride all you want, but not over the grass in a park. At least stay on the asphalt path then he doesn't really have anything to say. I likes mini bikes too just stick to the darn trails. If the sign says no motorized bikes, then no motorized bikes. Why is that so hard to understand? I had a crotchity old neighbor like that who used to gripe at kids running on his yard. I spoke to both of them and told them how it looked from the other point of view. Sure enough, both stopped causing problems. You're causing problems just as much as he is.

My nephew introduced me to mini bikes. I’m 44. I wish I had thought about that earlier. It depends on the neighborhoods but I go on mine (Coleman 200cc) with my daughter who’s 6 to my moms and my sister’s house (roughly 5-7 miles away) on mostly sidewalks. Never had any cops complaining. But I have heard people getting crazy amounts of citations for it. I guess it would also depend on what kind of copa you get

I remember the sixties. Every kid had a mini bike back then. We rode them all over, trails, alleys, neighborhood streets etc. No body called the cops or objected. Parents realized that it kept kids out of trouble. I used to deliver newspapers in my neighborhood off of a mini bike, and later a Suzuki ts50. Things were better then. I'm almost the same age as that filthy old fart, and I still own and ride mini bikes and motorcycles.

I have no problem with anyone having fun. I do have a problem with inconsiderate riders creating constant noise and dust in residential neighborhoods by riding up and down the same paths for hours on end.

I am sorry that you had that experience. I am 49 yrs old & I happen to find it very refreshing to see a young man "outside" enjoying something other than video games. Plus, it sounds as though you are learning about small engines. You keep it up, and don't let a bored, nasty person deter you from what I consider to be harmless fun. After all, it's not like you were destroying, or hurting anyone.☺

Getting along with most people is usually a matter of balance. People around you might tolerate a kids riding about occasionally but rarely an adult. Kids riding safely the street occasionally.. Small towns tolerate this. Adult riding in a park, cutting across the grass. Not likely to make you any friends... There has to be a trail or ten on the fringe of town. Go there and have as much fun as you want. For a maintenance test ride: Up and down you own street is usually OK, so long as it isn't all of the time, or when kids are walking to/from school. I think the old guy was right because you were in the park, but the community needs to ensure that people like you can ride somewhere. Balance..

I have a crazy, bitter Neightbor like that one, her goal is to ruin live and happiness of people near her. She has treated me with calling the cops for walking where I live not even outside her condo. Has made a big drama because a neighbor was having a bbq with low music at 4pm. I have no issue with tooling around the neighborhood on the mini bike. But...I don't like the fact that you took it off trail in the park. Ya shouldn't take it on the grass because it will damage it. If everyone did that it would be ruined. But I appreciate the fact that instead of engaging the old guy in a lengthy confrontation, you chose to leave and save his blood pressure from blowing a gasket.

Brooke R, he'll love it here! Politics are a bit strange, but the people are so nice! The cost of living is unbelievable! My taxes in NJ were over 15,000 a year, and here we pay less than a grand, with more property and a comparable house. Biggest drawback of Idaho is that the school system sucks!

Perspective is everything. Revisit your video and review your attitudes when you are forty something years old or older, own property, have been paying bills and taxes for decades, and have children or grandchildren you love who want to play in a nice, safe park. You will likely be stunned by how much your perspective has changed. It has been fun watching the thirty-something "kids" across the street grow up fast after getting their first home...they complain more about the disrespect, traffic, thefts, noise, and trash than us old folks! LOL
