Funny enough, the guy on the Phalanx box was actually a Santa Claus. According to an article: His name was Bertil Valley. He was a volunteer Santa Claus for over 25 years, and he owned his own successful construction company for over 20 years. By all accounts, he seemed like a pretty upstanding citizen. Unfortunately, he passed away back in 2004, but he’ll always live on as the Phalanx Pheller in our hearts.

Interesting part about Hong Kog 97 was that it was more or less made by the dev and a friend in about 2 days. Basically it was done as a satire of the video game industry and it was as bad as possible intentionally. Oh and the body is real, it's from a Mondo film and the guy was killed in the Bosnian War

@@Sabbath24 Game jams often take place over a weekend (2-3 days) and create something with 100x the substance. The original Celeste was made during a 4 day game jam. I personally have made games with more substance in 1,5 days. The probable reality is that they were young and wanted to make a game, but also wasn't very experienced. They also didn't make it as satire or intentionally bad (the most common excuse people make when making something terrible), but probably since they were young, wanted some "commentary".

The dreamcast used the date and time to actually affect many other games than just seaman. Take Tokyo extreme racing 2 for example.
