The ending was sad, but a disturbing thought is that he said he'd 'wait for her' so it means something very bad is going to happen in her time very soon 😐 I need a sequel...

I don't know why, but I feel like the only thing I remember seeing through clips is how she always rolled when going back in time. I was surprised it wasn't called "The Girl who Rolled through Time."

I picked this movie up at random and bought it as a teenager. Loved it tremendously; I’m now 26 and badly wish I could go back to those simple times. But, time waits for no one.

If my crush could learn time travel I'm sure she would do the same , she avoids me even without it

I love how somehow her just getting good grades destroys a possible relationship lol.

Why does this just seem like an aromantic fever dream?

I know this is strange but did he ever actually say why he wanted to see the painting. I understand every person has their own feelings and joys of certain forms of art, but for him to time travel to a specific time when a painting would be unveiled would suggest that there is something more about the painting that he may have not said.

The moral here kind of bothers me. Like, why does Makoto have to take responsibility for other people's reactions to her actions? (The other kid in cooking class getting bullied, her friend working harder on his schoolwork because she did well on a test, etc.) Like, theoretically, all that could've happened without time travel. (Obviously for the movie's plot it doesn't, but everything she changes is pretty mundane and _could_ happen.) And if so, would we still hold her responsible? Probably not. Because whether you're messing with time or not, you can't know or be responsible for all the possible repercussions of your actions.

i love this story, i haven’t watched it, but i like the story where she makes a lot of convenient choices for herself and in the end she tries to fix up the consequences she caused

I always loved this film the art sequences were so beautiful to be honest this film is what made me want to consider watching anime I liked the ghibli films but they never resonated with me plot wise this one though left me wanting more to the point rewatching it is so refreshing dang now I gotta go watch this again ! 😢

I loved this movie, but the girl irked me with her selfishness. I am happy she went and fixed everything; yet the ending was such a cliff hanger for me!

Yooo I think she might be actually the aunty who had to go through some time travelling shit and end up in the past or make it her current present. Like think about it. Yes they are related but they look way too similar. She might be more tan but then again she plays in the sun a lot so the tone probably changed a bit in future. Aunty might be a witch but it's still bizarre she was so comfortable and knew too much about the time leaping about it while it was established that the time travelling isn't related to magic but to future technology. And if the question is why won't Aunty just tell her who she is or prevent any of this from happening. This whole movie taught her not to play with time so it makes sense the aunt wouldn't try to do much other than guide her. Plus think about it the aunt said she went to arts because she wanted to help restore the paintings and keep them safe.

This sounds so beautiful, I will definitely watch this

The art style of this anime is very pleasant to look at, but I prefer the 1983 live action adaptation much more. It still has interesting visuals as it's a bit experimental, and the story is a million times more captivating and charming. I highly reccomend watching it if you can manage to find it!! There was an english subtitled version on KZfaq for a while, but it unfortunately got taken down recently :'( There's still a version with spanish subtitles on KZfaq though, look up "toki wo kakeru shoujo (1983)" and you should find it. :>
