A training video done by the Tyne and Wear PTE just before bus services were de-regulated in 1986. The video is based around Customer Service

A corporate training video with a sense of humour. I like the homage to Blakey.

Great to see and hear some of the Tyne & Wear Metropolitans in action, especially at 9.22 when one pulls away from the bus station. Bus heaven!

As a student in the late 1970's I remember many of the bus drivers being particularly rough on the throttle and brakes, throwing the passengers up and down the bus in Bob Newhart style (for anyone who remembers his sketches)! As for the semi-automatics....well I doubt those lasted long before repair - as some drivers literally slammed the lever between gears resulting in the bus almost jumping. Strange, as the United coach drivers of the time knew how to operate them so smoothly!

what, acting like a total wanker and having ago at the oldies? Oh yes, that will really help things on the buses...I don't fucking think so.

In this video, the driver was the bad guy, when I was a driver, many passengers were the bad guys. Using large denominations without being the least bit apologetic, taking it out on you when the last service didn't turn up (admittedly this happened to me only once) passengers being aggressive. These passengers in this feature were model passengers who I would treat like royalty!!
@VW_Fan3 жыл бұрын
Why should they be apologetic? There isn’t anything wrong with using cash. It’s up to the company to provide change.
@VW_Fan3 жыл бұрын
If everyone had that attitude nobody would have any change at all. If you accept cash you have to accept that you’re going to have to give change.
@izzy0402893 жыл бұрын
The point is the drivers do start with enough change, then arseholes expect change from large note denominations and then all of a-sudden the driver has insufficient change for the rest of the journey. There isn't a cash office hidden in the engine bay for more change.
@leylandlynxvlog3 жыл бұрын
@@VW_Fan More like if every passenger gives a £20 note for a £1 fare and expects change there will be no change for anyone. The company can't provide a float of like £500. Remember cash given goes into the farebox; not the change box.

the real name of this comedian (portraying a Tyne & Wear driver as being like a total wanker) was John Anderson Rawlinson and, until 1969, he was a professional footballer, playing for Bury, Barrow (twice, first from 1965-66 and again in 1968-69) and Runcorn. After he swapped the pitch for the stage (not to mention television), he adopted the moniker of Spike Rawlinson, then just Spike Rawlings. He died in hospital thirteen years ago, while awaiting a liver transplant. As for playing the bus driver from hell in this video (which has a typically cheesy soundtrack); well, I've come across wankers like Animal Anderson behind the wheel...people who you'd just love to twat. And it's nearly always the men, because, let's face it, women drivers are better behaved. I remember when I was twenty, I'd got on the 86 to town I think and I noticed that, at the wheel of this particular East Lancs-bodied Atlantean was a young woman of about my age. Well, I said something about the first time I'd seen a woman at the wheel of a bus and she said something along the lines of 'us being better than the men'. And that is true. I've never yelled at a woman bus driver for being a wanker or bell-end. The only time I did have a go at a woman driver was some girl who was on the 410 because she nearly fucking drove off without me...despite me yelling to wait a minute.

Why should the driver wait for you at all? That's the trouble with too many selfish passengers, they expect a bus on a schedule for all to give personal service. Wake up to reality.
