That drummer (Matt Garstka) is one of the best drummers of his generation. Such an amazing band! So happy you got to react to them.

Great band, you should check out their newest stuff, probably also their best imo. Also the drummer is incredible, his name is Matt Garstka and he's got some great playthroughs that you should check out, mind bending stuff. I suggest Gordian Naught, Red Miso or Monomyth

The sheer talent of these three guys is just insane. All three are such insane musicians on their own and their working together is just magic. I want to suggest you more but I'm afraid they do get into too many time signature changing zone.

You’re in for a treat digging into this band. I’d also recommend checking out interviews with Tosin, where he goes into detail on his approach to musical theory. He’s a very interesting guy who’s opened my eyes to a lot of ideas and techniques with his insight (Also why I like watching you). And then the drummer, Matt, is considered by many to be one of the best drummers alive. He’s got a ton of drum cams and breakdowns on his channel as well. He does things on the kit that defies logic. Amazing band, all around.

8 strings are basically just standard 6 strings with 2 lower strings, in the case of AAL it's a low E and a less low A so it's just EAeadgbe you can make 6th string rooted barre chords all the way down to the 8th string that way and everything else is normal

Most of the time it's just drop E (ebgDAEBE). They don't typically double drop unless it's for Physical education or other few.

Good reaction!! Animals as leaders is an epic and magic journey of musicallity (this dunlop session does not have the best sound mix in the drums, sadly). Through his albums delivery any kind of new concepts. Try some of their new album Parrhesia, Red Miso is a master piece track. Also they have a ton of playthrough videos. BTW Animals as leaders uses EBEADGBE tuning in basically all their songs!

Incredible band! Each member a virtuoso, and their sense of time and tempo really engage your brain and feels. Red Miso is a great newer track from them, but their older stuff is worth getting into also. Arithmophobia, Wave Of Babies, Tooth And Claw are some suggestions but honestly you can’t go wrong with any song of theirs.

The standard tuning for 8-strings has a low F# next to the B, it's interesting that you defaulted to thinking it was a high A because i've never seen a string thin enough for that personally

I guess you could use a .008 and just crank the hell out of it up to an A...but that's gonna create a lot of torque on the neck and the string will probably break a lot faster than the E string.
