I can't believe how smart uromastyx are. My uromastyx learn, they listen, and remember. For instance if I say one of there names the uromastyx whose name I say is the only one who responds, and if I am making my yellow male nervous by doing something in his tank if I say it's OK he knows I am not there to touch him and he relaxes. When I talk to my yellow male he rubs his face on things just like a cat, and after I pet him he will go to the doors and stare at me for long periods of time closing his eyes softly when ever I look at him. They are truly incredible.

Dillon this was one of the best podcast about reptiles i’ve seen. Very professional and time consuming what you did( like the chapters, the videos and photos to ilustrate what Phil was meaning exc.). So thankyou very much. I will check the other podcasts for sure

I LOVE my uromastyx! He literally missed me when I went out of town for my honeymoon! We were gone a week and he didn’t come out at all the whole time we were gone (I have a camera in his cage, so I could see he never left his hide). As soon as we got home he came skuttling out from his hide…..at night!!! He NEVER comes out at night! He was so excited to nibble some lentils from my hand! I had a sitter put fresh salad in his cage every day so it wasn’t due to food either. He’s only around 2.5 years old and I got him as a baby hatchling. I’m working with him with enrichment and training techniques and he will willingly crawl onto my outstretched hand now. This method takes a lot of patience but it’s definitely worth it. Trying to create a confident and comfortable animal, and with Uros it’s absolutely worth the wait 😁

I have some of Phillips Uro’s , he and Kamil are the gold standard of breeders of this species. Every year I try and get one of Phillips Ornates, but it is like winning the lottery and I haven’t got a winning ticket yet. I will try again next year!

Uromastyx are awesome 👌 Decker was our first reptile and we have enjoyed every minute of having him. This summer I built him a 6×2×2' enclosure with natural stone tile on the back and slate stacks and shelves. He just enjoys every inch of out. His favorite season is spring when his dandelions return...lol. Really enjoyed this episode 👌

I just had to watch this episode through again. Really appreciate that you put in the chapter time stamps in the description by the way And I agree with the "dark horse" species he mentioned, particularly yemensis and princeps. I like the smaller and active guys, they're the opposite of "pet rock". My ocellata is chill for part of the day, then around afternoon before lunch time he becomes an absolute maniac lol. Very good climber despite his looks. He'll even jump, but he sucks at jumping to be honest. Lol In fact, a lot of keepers are starting to give their uros hamster wheels (not the wire ones) to get them to chill out. Some uros just do not want to stop moving lol

Thanks for coming back to watch it again, Jason! I’ve actually seen people start using hamster wheels for many species, it’s a really interesting idea. I mean when you think about it, in the wild these animals probably walk a fair distance each day. It makes sense to try and replicate that if we can 👌🏼

Really? Some uro varieties can get massive, though! Do custom-sized safe wheels need to be comissioned for especially active ones, perhaps? That would be amazing if it worked! I can't help but wonder if spinal issues would otherwise occur like how it can happen for hamsters on too-small wire wheels....

@@thejasminedragonmerchant6843 you're absolutely correct, you could definitely hurt their spine if the wheel is too small. To that end, some people use these flat "saucer" type hamster wheels. They're kind of like an upside down Frisbee/dinner plate so that the uros back is kept totally straight, I think maybe they're intended for Guinea pigs or other slightly large rodents. I've heard it can take a few days for them to learn the saucer wheels, but from what I've seen on Facebook some uros run like crazy on them when they learn

My absolute favorite animal in the world. I only bean at uromastyx for a year. I started with two wild caught uromastyx a red saharan male and a yellow saharan uromastyx due to they were the only species of uromastyx I had access to. I recently a few months ago was able to get my dream uromastyx a captive bread juvenile male orange flavifasciata uromastyx, it cost me $750 but he was worth it. I really like the sarra loricata, rainbow, and then phillibyi also. Really I love all uromastyx species. All my very favorites are next to impossible to get in the states. Great video, thanks for sharing. All things uromastyx 🙌

My Young and older female Uros love meal worms. But I only give it to them as treats.. They do not like shredded Carrots. I give them access to seeds in a separate dish, and veggies in another dish. Pumpkin, Komatsuna, Bokchoi, Green peppers. They will let it sit in their dish for a whole day and dryout. Then eat the totally dried bits until it is gone. Might take days.

I wish I could afford the higher end uros. But my sweet red boy is still a handsome fella! Thank you for this video. I've fallen down the uro KZfaq rabbit hole and some of the advice I heard is mind boggling! one KZfaqr said they don't need UVB or UVA only heat. and they said you can give them crickets a couple times a week, and they housed it with a beardie. I would like to find out where they live and take their uros and beardie away! I didn't know I can get so irate from watching reptile videos.

If your parents hate reptiles and you love them, how can you think it's a genetic thing?... It's much more linked to your personality, which in turn is brought up both by envinronment and genetics.
