I love how you approach difficult topics with positivity and transparency. It is so helpful for those of us with our own animals to remember that it is okay to make mistakes and to not dwell on them, but that any mistake can be fixed! The training advice will help me with my own parrot. Thank you!! I wish little Chopstix health and comfort for the rest of his time with you!

Great job with Chopsticks, Jessi! I love happy endings and this was a great success you had to remind people not to give up and get creative with the methods of training. So so happy for Chopsticks' recovery.

I’m so glad Chopsticks is feeling better. I fell in love with Quakers when I first saw Chopsticks. I got my own Quaker after a lot of researching who I have had for 6 years this year and I wouldn’t be without him. I also got a Conure and they are best friends. It was the best thing I did having two now my Quaker isn’t as clingy and more like a bird. Me and my Quaker love watching Chopsticks together. Keep on quaking Chopsticks xx

Chopsticks bout of weight loss, etc. reminded me of a story by James Herriot. An animal was not doing well, but they couldn't figure out a reason. He had given the animal the medicine to put it to sleep, but instead of dying it improved. The lack of pain is something we take for granted until it becomes chronic. Perhaps Chopsticks was experiencing some kind of pain and the pain meds and warmth helped alleviate it enough for him to improve. Well done! 🖖💕🙂

Scottish Fold cats are well known to be a calm cat breed. Unfortunately, irresponsible breeding has led to that not being a result of temperament, but chronic pain. Instead of the cat being laid back because of personality, the cat is simply in agonizing pain from arthritis or other medical reasons. I’ve heard similar stories where Scottish Folds who come out of surgery are actually much more alive than when they went in. Just because of a little painkiller.

@@jessical4866Pain management is such a problem with cats generally, I hadn't even thought about how the lack of proper management could affect whole breeds. When our elderly cat had a inoperable tumour, our vet put him on pain meds ASAP and basically said "he might seem like he doesn't need them, because cats never do until its unbearable". It wasn't till after he leapt up onto a chair after his first dose that we realised how much difference a little pain relief made. (Thank god for that vet - pain management in cats was her area of special interest so I don't know how many would even have prescribed something!)

A person will have nothing unless they learn to treat all life with kindness and respect. What is the value of a thing that there is only one of? I think it's priceless. From those we sustain to that which sustains us, everything should be looked upon with an attitude of gratitude. There is so much more joy in life this way.

I LOVE THIS CHANNEL! So much kindness and things to learn. I didn't know that it's possible that some animal behaviour that we humans think is cute meant something totally different to the animal and we might be rewarding/ encouraging negative behaviour. Gosh, imagine the misunderstanding. Inexperienced pet owners might think it's the animal's fault when it was theirs.

Oh my gosh! This exact bout of strange sickness happened to my Quaker parrot! And only 6 weeks from losing his bonded blue-headed pionus buddy, I was devastated. He couldn't perch properly, was so weak, his eyes half closed. Kept wobbling and falling over. I also refitted his cage and put him inside his little tent every night to sleep so he didn't have to perch. When we took him to the vet he diagnosed the probable issue to be fatty liver which Quaker parrots are known for. He prescribed we purchase milk thistle in liquid form and give him a few drops each night before his dinner. I found the best product on line! Within 2 days of starting this regime it was a complete miracle! He was fully recovered and back to his sassy self. So this is now part of his evening routine and I am so grateful.

I love Quakers and Chopsticks is gorgeous! Quakers, like lorikeets, love to wrestle and it is a big part of bonding for them. I'm not sure how responsive Chopsticks would be to it now, considering his age and history, but he may really enjoy a gentle wrestle with you sometime. If he lays on his back for you, give his belly a gentle tickling while allowing him to grab your fingers with his feet and - though he may not be gentle at first - nibble your fingers too. I usually allow them to gnaw on the back of my fingers as the skin is tougher and flexing makes the skin tight and harder to break when they bite a little hard. Never act as though it's an aggressive behaviour but encourage them to be gentle by "softly" withdrawing when they bite hard. Some parrot species need to wrestle to bond and the abscence of that activity has a detrimental effect on their behaviour, psyche and bond...

Chopsticks is what inspired me to get a quakerparrot. (I also made sure I like hanging out with them after seeing my aunt getting two, it's when I realised they're exactly the type of parrot I want) He's a lutino, so a yellow quaker, his name is Pikachu, and he also started saying "Pikachu" all the time. I waited for a long time to finally have this weirdo on my shoulders!

For anyone who owns a bird, you have to weigh them everyday in grams! It is vitally important to their health, no matter what. If they lose ten percent of their weight, take them to see a vet IMMEDIATELY.

I'm only 2 seconds in. Just want to put this out there: I've had the privilege of interacting with a wide variety of animals, both pets and wild. Every animal has it's own personality and I've been amazed at how many are willing to trust me, even among wild animals. I had a wild opossum enter my house and get up on my kitchen table. He loved anything with the taste of meat and cheese. He did let me touch him, but never became socialized. Eventually he quit coming inside the house, but I did see him outside. While I never got to touch him again, he did not see me as a threat, and would come within about 3 feet of me. My room mate at the time was afraid of him, and would run away when he came around. I've also had a mud skipper that would hop into my hand and I could walk around the house with it. I was also able to hand feed the fish. These are just 2 animals that took my breath away. Treat the animals around you with the respect they deserve. I have a spider in my bedroom I depend on for safety (not a pet). While there are dangerous spiders out there, she is not one of those. She has kept me from being stung by wasps, so I'll keep giving her living space. Take care all. In spite of all the study we have done, we still have only the vaguest idea how much we depend on the animals around us. @ 5:29 I've recently been adopted by a stray momma cat, and her 5 kittens. Momma cat is friendly, and I can pet her. 2 of her kittens have come to trust me enough to allow me to touch them. The others tend to be nervous. Sometime they will allow a touch, and other times they will back off. The main thing for me it to take my queues from them and not push them beyond what the are comfortable with. I am the one who feeds them, which helps, but it is slow going. I do think there are others in the neighborhood who don't follow their queues, so it's very much a case of me paying attention and backing off when they give me a negative signal. It has never been the case that the cat belonged to me. It's always been that I'm their human.

Very cool video! Quaker parrots are fairly common on the city i live (Santiago de Chile) There are parks filled with nests, which sadly leads to people taking them to their homes as pets (thats also the same reason why they are very common pets, they are as common as pigeons) here they are called "Cotorra argentina" (Argentine parrot) though some people call them "Cotorra monje" (Monk parrot) because the white feathers at the top of their heads kinda look like the sterotipical bald spot that of an old monk

Around 2016 my 12Y (approx) old pigeon stated losing weight. I've tried EVERYTHING I could to save her and nothing worked and she was losing weight. I thought she was at the end of her life. Thinking this can't get any worse for her (pain wise) I did the unthinkable. I started to feed her MASS GAINER (body building supplement with a TON of carbs and sugar). She started to get better and better and lived until she was 15 (approx) She passed away last September. May she rest in peace 😭❤️

I know you can't help EVERY bird owner but my MYNAH is very emotionally bonded to the family, but mostly me. She is the most 'violent' with me too. She bites me in a different manner than IF she bites others(which she doesn't always do),. She sings and says a few things, mimicked after me, but I just want to enjoy having her perch on me daily without fearing her latch onto my EAR... AGAIN. It's not as pleasant anymore. She's escaped twice, the 1st time she got down to 55gm and almost died, the second time, we coaxed her back home with her favorite unhealthy treat, cheese! 🧀 What can I do and is it even possible to help her?
